2017 Trump Presidency Thread

No alasdairm, I'm not arguing for stricter gun control. I'm hoping they eventually remove the ban on importing Russian made firearms, remove suppressors from the jurisdiction of the NFA, and repeal the ban on purchasing full auto or burst fire rifles made after 1986.

what will happen next with the travel ban?

President Trump's travel ban: 4 options for what happens next

the supreme court is short a justice right now so it's possible the supreme court would come down 4-4 and the ruling of the 9th circuit would, in that case, stand. anybody know?

reminder: Appeals court upholds suspension of Trump’s travel ban

A federal appeals court panel has maintained the freeze on President Donald Trump’s controversial immigration order, meaning previously barred refugees and citizens from seven Muslim-majority countries can continue entering the United States.

In a unanimous, 29-page opinion, three judges with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit flatly rejected the government’s argument that the suspension of the order should be lifted immediately for national security reasons and forcefully asserted their ability to serve as a check on the president’s power.

“The Government does not merely argue that courts owe substantial deference to the immigration and national security policy determinations of the political branches — an uncontroversial principle that is well-grounded in our jurisprudence,” the opinion says. “Instead, the Government has taken the position that the President’s decisions about immigration policy, particularly when motivated by national security concerns, are unreviewable, even if those actions potentially contravene constitutional rights and protections. … There is no precedent to support this claimed unreviewability, which runs contrary to the fundamental structure of our constitutional democracy.”

droppers, i know you're a (sometime, somewhat) constitutionalist so join me in celebrating this victory for the vision of our founding fathers?

I'm just hoping they go with the nuclear option to approve gorsich. Overrule the 9ths unconstitutional, activist ruling. The 9th is has 83% of its rulings overturned for a reason.

Then tell justice Kenady it is time to step down so we can put another textualist on the court. This is how it will happen imo

so 6 of the 2017 superbowl chamnpion new england patriots have said they will not visit the white house. fair enough. that's their right.

there is an unconfirmed report from inside the white house that trump's reaction is to lobby kraft and belichick to cut those players from the team!

it's like we have a 5 year old for a president.

Unconfirmed reports = msm = fake news

I say it's their choice. No one cares, other than the media that reports it. The unfortunate thing is that there is a ton of pressure on the other black players, as there is a narrative in the mainstream, that if black people do not follow the democrat parties ideas they get called an Uncle Tom. Tim Scott was talking about this the other day.

you mean gorsuch? the nominee who denounces trump's attacks on the judiciary and told sen. richard blumenthal that trump's criticism was disheartening and demoralizing to independent federal courts.

you talk so much about logic and lack of emotion but you rarely display it.

you just latched onto that number, i am sure, after a 30-second web search? did you bother to second source it? read another opinion? droppers, what percentage of all lower court cases that the scotus accepts are ruled differently?

from Does the Supreme Court Overturn 80 Percent of Ninth Circuit Court Decisions?

In short, social media claims that 80 percent of cases decided by the Ninth Circuit were overturned were flat out false; more than 99 percent of that circuit’s decisions stood and the Supreme Court reviewed a scant 0.106 percent of circuit court cases each year. Although figures from 2010 maintained the “Ninth Circuit [had] the second highest reversal rate at 80 [percent],” the “highest” was the Federal Circuit court’s median of 83 percent. However, left out of both the rumors and the blog post was the fact that the average rate of accepted cases ruled upon differently by the Supreme Court than a lower circuit court was over 68 percent across all courts. So of less than one percent of all cases reviewed by the Supreme Court, 68 percent of decisions across all circuits were overturned. Eighty percent of decisions by the Ninth Circuit were overturned when escalated to the Supreme Court, but the numbers were misleading taken out of context.
(my emphasis)

additional reading supports this e.g.

How ‘liberal’ reputation of 9th Circuit Court of Appeals is overblown, scholars say
Supreme Court Reversal Rates: Evaluating the Federal Courts of Appeals

i know you want that 80% number to be right but a little logic applied and a little less emotional, knee-jerk response is what 's needed here.

Our president is a master strategist. If you read some of his books you would know that. Especially the art of the deal, you should read it quickly, QUICKLY!

Ali I'm sorry, but your court is a activist panel which legislates from the bench. Or at least tries to. Where ever you may stand on this behavior, that is what they do.
^ ok.

u.s. unemployment is currently at 4.8%.

what is your estimate of where it will be in november 2020?

alasdair
Bwhahahahahahhaha if you think our employment is full and in a good place you are a pure partisan. How did a outlier like trump get elected under such a great democratic candidate?
People wanted to elect a socialist in the primaries ffs, and likely would have if the dnc had not rigged it for her.

I 100% agree with this. It's a real damn bummer. Predictions of a Bernie/Trump election showed high favorability of Bernie. Plus he's all about the second amendment for you "I vote based on gun rights" folks. Such a darn shame...

Bwhahahahahahhaha if you think our employment is full and in a good place...
where the fuck did i say that. answer? nowhere.

please stop this shit, droppers. you're deliberately trying to cause trouble.

full employment would have unemployment at 0%. i quoted the current u.s. unemployment rate of 4.8%. there's a difference between 0% and 4.8%. agreed?

my source is the bureau of labor statistics. if you wish to refute that figure, then please do so and cite your sources.

i posted the figure because trump campaigned, in large part, on jobs. the current unemployment rate is 4.8%. if he does what he said he will, that rate should drop considerably. agreed?

so, how about you put the childish, emotionally-charged stuff aside and just address the topic?

if your man trump is going to be the great savior of american jobs, what will the unemployment rate be in november 2020?

alasdair

Quit getting upset ali I'm only trying to get you to be honest. Our labor participation is very very low and the jobs obama has added are mostly part time, low paying tax, benefit less positions. All I'm saying is that trump got hired bc our country has been ran by feckless leaders- globalists that only care about appeasing the people that pull their strings.

We are fed up with people being allowed to break the law, quell free speech in the name of political correctness, and the driving down of wages due to illegal hirings.

Ali you should be on Americas side, being a legal immigrant. We need more legal immigrants, like yourself, that contribute to the betterment of society.

I mean tbf labor participation was failing before obama, but he certainly didn't help. Idk I listen to the jobs reports when they come out and the bulk of the time they are full of service industry jobs. Again not just obamas fault. Much of it is due to nafta.

My Hillary for prison shirt comes in today!!! Gonna go to some of these town halls. The one here in Murfreesboro made it on natl television. I know libs are mad at the bill they are trying to pass to make it not a criminal offense to hit protestors blocking road ways. Tennessee also has milos bill, being proposed, which aims to make free speech mandated on college campuses in the state. This state is so freaking progressive!
