2016 American Presidential Campaign

That is roughly 166 dollars a year per person in the US, or about 13 dollars a month per person. Not huge savings when you look at it that way.

We will never lower our deficit if we think of everything in these terms. If we itemize each bit of wasteful government spending into a per person per month amount they may individually look small. If we take the aggregate of all these "small costs" (in this case only $166 per person per year for this medical malpractice costs). If you work at a business, and have a cost of $3.8 trillion per year whether it's production cost or shipping cost, any cost and can trim 1% from that, you would be promoted, you would be given a raise, your boss would be estatic. The government if it was a business would have closed all its stores a few years ago and filed for bankruptcy but for years (particulary of George Bush and Obama) we've ben running a deficit, costs don't matter there is unlimited lines of credit and whenever we need to pay off our credit we raise a previous tax or find something new to tax.

Would it not be more prudent to find solutions to the waste that occurs on grander scales though? The malpractice issue is little more than poltical pandering. How would you feel if we start cutting military spending? There is far more wasteful practices occuring in that sector which also happens to be the largest portion of the federal budget?

Or simply has a different opinion than you. Rather than being an "idiot".
more data to inform the discussion of carson's smarts...

from: Brown to Carson: Here's climate change evidence
Ben Carson says there's no convincing research to prove that man plays a role in climate change.

So California Gov. Jerry Brown has sent the retired neurosurgeon a U.N. report so he can brush up on the subject.

In a letter Brown sent to Carson on Thursday, he cited comments the Republican presidential contender made to the San Francisco Chronicle this week in which he said, "There is no overwhelming science that the things that are going on are man-caused and not naturally caused. Gimme a break."

One of the funniest things I have ever seen
That was painful to watch, lol. Wtf was up with that hand slap with bush and trump, holy shit, take it easy guys! That whole thing just reinforced the reason I couldn't vote for any of these "people"(robots)... They are all FAKE AS FUCK !!!!

That is roughly 166 dollars a year per person in the US, or about 13 dollars a month per person. Not huge savings when you look at it that way.

Population of the US: 319 million.

3.8 trillion is 3,800,000 million. That's $11,912 per person. Other estimates I've seen puts it at around $9,000 per person, give or take.

The problem is that healthcare is around 18% of our total economy. If we were like other developed nations, we'd be under 11.5%. That's a savings of roughly $1 trillion dollars out of a total US economy of $18.8 trillion dollars.

Even a small fraction of that would buy many politicians, which is the root of the problem. The health care industry in the US is too big to be efficient - it's more profitable to them to donate to campaigns of people who support the current inefficient system.

I was speaking of the roughly 50 billion dollars cost of malpractice and resulting defensive medicine, not overall healthcare expenditure.

One of the funniest things I have ever seen

I can't decide what's more ridiculous. The question, the answers, or the fact that there's a replica of air force one inside the studio for a presidential debate.

Is this play a comedy or a tragedy?

Its scary to think one of the republicans on that stage is most likely going to be president. I cant see Clinton or Sanders winning a general election in this political climate. And Biden is old news. Truly a weak field this year. Rome was brought down by a succession of weak incompetent leaders. history tends to repeat.

I don't think I have ever been this depressed over an election in a long time. The Republicans should be a laughable embarrassment and yet there they stand in front of huge applauding crowds simply because they crow about how they will end the practice of killing babies and get back to the all-american business of killing babies that have grown up (you know...the ones that grew up in the wrong country, the ones that subscribe to the wrong religion, the ones that are the wrong color, the ones that don't have a piece of the pie, the ones that are trying to get in to get a piece of the pie, etc.) All the smug liberals thought that it was hilarious when Trump entered the race, saying, "No one will take him seriously so this is great!" What they did not count on is that we now live in a culture where the 99% worship the 1% that stands with its feet firmly planted on the necks of said 99%. The unsaid conclusion that wealth=intelligence has finally come home to roost in the popularity of Donald Trump.

Voting for a woman for the first time in my life should has been as exciting and groundbreaking as voting for the first African American president. Instead I will be holding my nose and flinching inside my little voting booth trying not to throw up as I tick the box next to Hilary Clinton. She is far too hawkish and she is close enough to the 1% to be for the 1%. That, and you have to wonder if there is really a real person in there.

Why do people on the left not give dr Ben Carson even a thought? Seems a bit odd I'd hate to say if he wins the primary there will be a lot of what happened with Obama only flipped around. Republicans will accuse dems as being racist for attacking him on the issues just like what happened with Obama. It will be a circus regardless IMO

(Hilary) was easily one of the worst Secretaries of State ever.

Name five of the other 67 Secretaries. (just saying)

That's not quite what happened with Obama. Obama was accused of being a non-American, Kenyan Islamic terrorist (let's not forget the crazy racist signs at certain rallies). It didn't really have anything to do with his position on charter schooling.
