Your tap dancing around the question do Mexican immigrants have higher crime rates than European immigrants and Asian immigrants? i guess it's pure fantasy the level of violence in these border towns.
This depends on geography and socio-economics, really. Corridor towns along the border are much more likely to have higher rates of violence than say, Mexican communities here in Michigan. The violence is a product of black market business, meaning areas that are more influenced by cartel activity are more likely to experience higher rates of crime and violence.
For the safety of American citizens we meed a less porous border to make sure Mexicos killers stay on their side of the Rio Grande. Why is their murder rate so high ? I'm not sure, it's probably Americas fault just like the rest of the worlds woes.
I'm a pretty young guy, I was born in the 1980s. In those days we weren't very concerned with violence at the Mexican border or scores of Mexicans either fleeing Mexico for the US or crossing the border to conduct violent business. Remember Colombia? Nicaragua? Iran/Contra or Pablo Escobar ring any bells? Miami was the hub of violence and the drug trade in the US, not border towns along Mexico.
As C_D points out, America's involvement is multidimensional. At the state level, we've engaged Mexico economically, leaving rippling effects on the agrarian sector of the Mexican economy. The US also happens to be a huge marketplace for drugs of every flavor just as it has been for many decades. We've created an enormous demand for illegal drugs while at the same time providing Mexican farmers with a lot more free time and financial incentive to meet that demand. The drug war obviously wasn't won when we took down Escobar and dismantled much of the Colombian cartel activity, we simply pushed the business north to Mexico.
You can build a 100ft, electrified steel wall with sentry towers every 50 yards and put a standing army at the border. It's not going to address the root of the problem or stop drug trafficking.
Mexicans here are advocating for free immigration.
Are they? Or are they advocating amnesty for those who are refugees of a warzone and/or those who are inside the US, making a living and leading productive lives?
They barage Trump for stifling it here yet say little when their own government deports millions of Central Americans. Its a tad hypocritical.
