so we're back in a lockout now?

as per usual, congress can't decide on shit and is the true opposition of any progress whatsoever. that's why I always preferred footbaw over politics. there are clear winners and not so much bullshit

as a player I'd be like "WTF? I was just allowed to enter my workplace and now I'm getting kicked out again??"

Fucking owners will keep at this forever. How fucking hard can it be to split up 9 billion dollars? Who needs that much money, ever?

Give it to the people who make considerably less money than you, don't have a lifelong career, and risk physical and mental injury every day for your ass. Bitch.

So some 3 person panel of judges somewhere voted 2-1 to grant the owners the stay to reinstate the lockout..... awesome. Had that not happened players could be practicing right now.

I swear of the appeals court sides with the owners because of some retarded legal bullshit maneuver i am going to blow a gasket.

I need football, its by far the most entertaining sport to watch for me, and the thought of suffering through 2 baseball seasons before there is more football makes me want to hurt someone.

this doesn't just affect players and owners, what about everyone who works at the stadiums?

JOB KILLERS! YOU'RE ALL JOB KILLERS!!

^^ not only that, but lot of businesses that you wouldn't think benefit from football will take a hit aswell. Anything close to a stadium, hotels that the players and staff are usually staying in for game days. TV networks will be missing the crown jewel as far as ratings and advertising $$ goes, not to mention people will be less inclined to buy cutting edge TV's if there is no football for another whole year. People might spend less $$ on BBQ type food and beer/chips ect this season of there is no football. Resturants will probably be the most hard hit.

I'd venture a guess that the total economic impact of football is much larger than most would predict and if the NFL misses games this year it will be very bad for the economy ,much more so than in past NFL lockouts since football has gained so much popularity since then.

Once again, as with any war of the wealthy, its the little guy that suffers most.

what will small-market teams like the Packers and the city of Green Bay have to fall back on? exactly nothing. now all those nice nice lily white Midwestern cities aren't going to be so Fargo, ND anymore. now they're going to feel like Cleveland, or Cinci, or Baltimore

MINNEAPOLIS -- The NFL has won another round in the court fight with its players.

The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday decided that the league's lockout of players should stay in place until a full appeal is heard on whether it is legal. The 2-1 decision mirrored the panel's earlier decision granting a temporary stay -- including a lengthy dissent from the same judge.

The appellate court said it believed the NFL has proven it "likely will suffer some degree of irreparable harm without a stay."

A June 3 hearing is scheduled to hear arguments on the legality of the lockout.

NFL granted two-week extension for response

The NFL has been granted an extension to respond to the players' complaints in the "Tom Brady vs. NFL" antitrust lawsuit. The response was supposed to be due May 26, but instead will be accepted by the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals on June 6; the league initially requested an extension through July 6.

The new date is noteworthy because it is three days after an appeal hearing to determine if the lockout should be lifted and a day before mediation between the players and owners is scheduled to resume.

The NFL's opening brief was filed on May 9, with the players' complaints coming last Friday. The NFL now has two weeks to craft a response to those complaints.

So the NFL was allowed 2 more weeks of stalling to "prepare their response" to the players. The court hearing these arguments is the same court that granted the stay 2-1 in favor of the NFL. Unless one of the 2 judges that initially sided with the NFL changes there mind the court will side with the NFL and the lockout will be back on until the players accept what the owners offer.

TLDR: Its not looking good

Funny or Die's parody skit on the NFL lockout - starring Taylor Lautner, Kevin Kostner, and Ray Lewis... amongst others. a big-time lol in my book. I heard ESPN played it live today, which is awesome for the hilariously awesome Funny or Die comedy crew

two arrests in my local NFL chapter of the AFC North in Cincinnati's Pacman Jones and Pittsburgh's Hines Ward

it's no surprise that Pacman Jones is arrested again, for not leaving a Cinci nightclub and resisting the officers during arrest. Jones says that he was not even drinking, and didn't deserve to get put in jail. while I usually side with the citizen in matters of police-fueled drama, I think that Pacman was most likely in the wrong. I mean, this is coming from the dude that assaulted his Dallas Cowboys-appointed bodyguard, that was there just to make sure he stayed out of trouble (lol). does Pacman deserve a 12th chance? or is he done? it's hard to realize that he is only 27 - with the way he has been playing as of late (only 1 interception last year) and the numerously numerous times he's been suspended... I see him done

Hines Ward is more of the shocker here. he's been not only the perpetual face of the speak-softly-yet-carry-a-big-stick Steelers team; he recently won the heart of housewives and girlfriends all over with his emotional and superb performance in Dancing With the Stars. hell, we all make mistakes, and I am not certainly one to jump to judge over a DUI (as long as he wasn't far over the limit, and nobody was hurt) - but it seems that Hines has hired a lawyer and he seems to be saying that he is innocent and he could somehow prove it. I don't know what that means, but I will be stayed tuned

hines is handling it well. he didn't blow and has already apologized for his actions. worst that happens is he gets convicted of a DUI. pretty much everyone i know has gotten a DUI. no big deal.

pacman, on the other hand, is a total fucking retard. he needs to hang it up and sling rocks on the corner.

Most ppl drink. Most ppl drive. Doesn't make anyone a criminal. That mistake is becoming an old bit tho. Nfl should implement a personal driver service(they prolly already do) for anyone and everyone who needs it. Personally I'd hire a close friend or relative. I'd also have a personal blunt roller too. But thaz jus me.

+ 1 one the personal blunt roller

and the NFL does have a driver service, which makes drinking and driving incredibly stupid if you are an active NFL player

I'm glad to see the reputation of Hines wasn't incredibly damaged. Pacman on the other hand...

its possible he went to the hospital and had a blood test done on his own after the arrest. or something like that.

I'd have a personal umbrella guy but the best in the business is already employed and I refuse to settle for second best.

If you are earning mega millions you have no excuse not to have a driver. Hell you'd even go to clubs that had a chauffeur service surely?

another day, another Steelers player in the news

this just in: JAMES HARRISON IS FUCKING CRAZY. although I do think he has gotten hit in the head one too many times, I do find myself agreeing with some of what his tell-all article in Men's Journal publicized (most notably about Big Ben, Troy, the Cheatriots, and Roger Goodell)

highlights

On being branded as a thug:

“My rep is James Harrison, mean son of a bitch who loves hitting the hell out of people,” he says. “But up until last year, there was no word of me being dirty — till Roger Goodell, who’s a crook and a puppet, said I was the dirtiest player in the league. If that man was on fire and I had to piss to put him out, I wouldn’t do it. I hate him and will never respect him.”

On the 2004 season:
“I should have another ring. We were the best team in football in 2004, but the Patriots, who we beat during the regular season, stole our signals and picked up 90 percent of our blitzes [in the AFC title game]. They got busted for it later, but, hey, they’re Goodell’s boys, so he slapped ‘em $500,000 and burned the tapes. Was he going to rescind their Super Bowls? Man, hell no!”

On the two interceptions thrown by Ben Roethlisberger in last year’s Super Bowl:

“Hey, at least throw a pick on their side of the field instead of asking the D to bail you out again. Or hand the ball off and stop trying to act like Peyton Manning. You ain’t that and you know it, man; you just get paid like he does.”

On Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu:

“He’s the one guy in football I respect absolutely, ‘cause he’s spiritual and lives it like he talks it. You know, he gets more flags than anyone on our team but never gets fined for nothin’. He’s so polite and talks so softly that he could tell he could tell Goodell to kiss his ass, and Goodell would smile and say thank you.”
