2 Month Old Bacteriostatic Solution....Safe??

I had a question about whether or not this solution would be safe for IV use.

A solution made with standard bacteriostatic water (0.9% benzyl alcohol) and dilaudid pills was micron filtered and stored in sterile vial with a sealed top with rubber stopper.

Would this solution still be sterile and safe for IV use after 2 months of sitting on a desk at room temp?

Also, will the hydromorphone stay stable in the bacteriostatic water for 2 months? Obviously heroin degrades into morphine in solution fairly quickly, are there similar concerns with hydromorphone or will it stay stable more or less indefinitely?

Assuming nothing else has contaminated it, it'll be fine.

When it comes to heroin/morphine, it's the acetyl groups that get hydrolyzed. Can't say that there's anything analogous in hydromorphone's structure that'd cause hydrolysis into another compound...

Well obviously that is what I'm worried about-that it has become contaminated due to the fact that it has been sitting on a desk for 2 months (sealed).

I am just trying to figure out how long 0.9 benzyl alcohol bacteriostatic water will keep a solution sterile assuming it is in a sealed vial, left at room temp.

Indefinitely. AT least a year if prepared properly.

Do you mean it will be stable indefinitely, or will be sterile indefinitely?

I assumed it would be stable, but my main concern is that the bacteriostatic water will only keep the solution sterile for a matter of weeks or so. Is this a valid concern or will the alcohol keep this solution sterile and safe for IV use for many months or more?

Dont know about the solution with hydromorphone but I recently used a 3 month old solution of BS water that had micron filtered suboxone in it with no ill effects.

Bacteriostatic water prevents the growth of new bacteria; if it was sterilized when you made it it should be fine.
