10 week old given ecstasy

well since it was a fucking accident i dont see how it would be attempted murder some people are just as gung ho on locking people up as the pigs who arrest them and the scumbag prosecutors that work day and night to put people in cages.

good thing theres grand jurys and shit so people like you dont go with your stupid moral standards and go hey lets try to charge these people with attempted fucking murder. i cant believe some of the people who post on here.....

Dude, I'm sorry, but when you give MDMA to an infant you're opening yourself for whatever they're going to throw at you. Attempted murder wouldn't be unreasonable at all! Anyone should know that half an ecstasy tablet will probably kill an infant!

Why are you so angry about this issue? Attempted murder seems to be a perfectly reasonable charge for people who poison infants.

Police would allege it was a "negligent" and "not a deliberate act", a Queensland police spokeswoman said outside court.
Babies stick shit in their mouths all the time, they probabl lost it somewhere, and unfortunately the babie was first to find it.
I'ld say there's a big difference between giving a baby an ecstacy tablet, and accidentally leavinbg an exstacy tablet out. Not to say it wasn't a very serious and neglectful thing to do, but not to say 'attempted murder' either, ya know?

this was a fucking 10 WEEK old baby. my sister's twins are already 4-5 months old and i would seriously doubt they have the dexterity to pick up a tiny pill and put it in their mouth. not to mention that a 2 and 1/2 month old baby cant even move itself from where its laying, so unless they dropped the pill RIGHT NEXT to the baby, its not a valid excuse at all. and if they WERE handling ecstasy that close to their baby, they deserve a harsh sentence anyway.

I hipe they get hard time. A 10 week year old can't walk or anything, so even if they didn't intentionally give the baby a roll, the must of put their pills right next to her. Shame on them

Babies do not have the dexterity at that age to pick up an object that small.

From http://parenting.ivillage.com/baby/bnutrition/0,,69w0,00.html
"1. Make sure your baby is ready. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends waiting until your baby is at least four to six months of age before introducing solid foods. Around this time your baby will begin to show signs of readiness for solids. She begins to sit up well, unsupported; she can pick up small items; and she is very interested in what is on your dinner plate. Every baby is different: It is more important to watch your baby for signs of readiness than to decide an arbitrary time for introducing solids."

4-6 months of age to pick up small objects to eat.

From http://www.babyzone.com/baby/nurturing/month/article/6th-month-baby
"He is learning how to use his fingers, individually and together. He has already learned that they can be used to bat at things, hold and shake different objects, and bring interesting toys to his mouth. Now, watch as he learns they can be used as a tool to pick up very small objects."

Once again, 6 months of age.

And once more http://www.parents.com/baby/development/physical/help-baby-move/
"Reaching and Grasping

4 to 6 Months
Your baby's ability to reach for and hold on to an object marks a major advance for his brain and fine motor skills. Until recently, his hand could close around an object such as a finger, but the motion was pure reflex. Now, his hand-eye coordination has matured enough so that he can see a favorite toy and decide he wants it, then use the muscles in his limbs to reach out, grab it, and bring it to his mouth. Of course, his attempts will be clumsy at first -- he may use his whole hand to rake across an object when trying to pick it up. Soon, though, his coordination will be so advanced that he'll be able to transfer items from one hand to the other."

10 weeks old? Sorry babies do not have that motor skill yet. Anyone who has watched a baby at that age will understand that babies do not have that motor skill yet.

Parents are complete fucking idiots and I have no sympathy for them. Poor baby :(

Um, no the don't. Not at this age. At this age they're lucky to hold anything at all.

Hell, my son at eight weeks can just now hold a rattle and rattle it a bit (that's way fast, admittedly), picking up a tiny pill and eating it is impossible.

And two: There's ABSOLUTELY NO FUCKING WAY that anyone could buy the accidentally gave him the e-tab from my panadol bottle." Why? Because at this age, ALL MEDICINE is given as a liquid in an oral syringe or IV/IM (but only if it's the only option).

A baby this age would more likely choke on a pill than actually swallow it. Most likely the kid held this SL by pure chance.

It's obvious most of Bluelight doesn't have kids of their own. Fortunately, I think.

I was wondering if the parents (possibly being a bit stupid) took the pill from the medication bottle, ground it up and put it in the baby's mouth thinking it was medicine, not realising (or not caring) an adult formulation won't do for kids. Or maybe it was the middle of the night, and they didn't have infant formulation. Of course this is all conjecture on my part. I just can't believe parents would purposely give a kid that age e (surely even an idiot would realise it would poisonous), and I can't think any other way it could have got into the baby's mouth given it's age.

You guys are idiots, i saw the couple on the news. They are definatly not junkies and look nice and clean.

Are you being serious?

1. People dress up for the news and other events they're likely to be captured on film for.
2. Appearance has nothing to do with parenting skills
3. Horrible people can look 'nice and clean'
4. 'Junkie' implies heroin addicts. I don't think anyone suggested that of them.
4a. Junkies can be clean or dirty, too.

I can't believe good parents would do that, but I can imagine idiots or terrible parents doing it. Hell, I once went along on a health and welfare check (with a social worker, as part of my psych practicum). The lady literally had shit on the floor. Not dog shit, she had people shit- her kids. You can imagine this place!

Anyway, I can imagine just about anything now.

I smoked a little weed when I was pregnant with my oldest child, who is 30 now and he tried weed once, with me, when he was 20. He fucking hated it. He had a panic attack and I thought I was going to have to take him to the hospital. He laughs about it now, but it was scary. I'm still smoking, and he doesn't go near the stuff. I wonder if the times I got high when I was pregnant gave him a low tolerance... well, anyway, I'm sure you are all quite upset that I smoked weed while I was pregnant. It was 30 years ago. What the fuck did I know?

If you want to have kids and continue using drugs, you really need to be absolutely certain you do not allow your stash to be consumed by your kids, especially if they are infants!

Obviously there is going to be a grey ara once a kid reaches a certain age (for example, I don't have a whole lot of objection to parents smoking weed with their 16 year old son or daughter, although if it becomes a frequent habit that is not good either).

But in this case the baby was ten weeks old. Their parenting privileges are revoked in my book.

if they get a severe punishment,

what happens to the next baby who, accidentally or otherwise, ingests some E?

he aint goin to the hospital right away, i can tell you that

You're trying to take the logic that is used to justify protections against searches after Overdose-related 911 calls.

It doesn't work here, and in fact, it's just stupid to try connecting the two. Perhaps we shouldn't severely punish rapists because they might decide to start killing their victims? It's nonsense. It's one thing when people injure themselves or are injured willingly. These are victimless crimes.

Giving very young children powerful drugs? That's not a victimless crime.

1. An infant can't make the decision whether to take the drug or not.
2. In this case the parents didn't get the kid to the hospital right away- they waited an hour and a half.

you do not know that it was intentional, though

Man with some of the imbecilic attitudes you people have about drugs, it's going to take centuries before drugs are legalized.

What this couple did was despicable.

poor kid... let's hope she turns out fine.
i won't force feed a sober friend half a tab (even when i'm rolling balls).
what the hell were they thinking...
