I Have ordered Pro G (which is 1,4 BDO) from a certain supplier several times.
I recently found 1,4 BDO for sale from a chemical company for a fraction of the price but the chemical company in question states that it is 98% pure. I was wondering what the other 2% is? Would it be suitable or being 98% is it just some impure industrial standard sort of stuff?
They also sell GBL 99% pure. Is that an OK purity to use?
Thanx for any help!

the chemical company should be able to provide you with more detailed information on the substance's purity.
the 2% is more likely to be a solvent (probably water) than anything else, although only they can tell you for sure.

Ahhh my son, you have found the correct ways to order chemicals - fuck the places that cater to the dope fiend, go to the places that cater to the LEGIT folks (ie those who clean circuit boards) ... don't worry about that 2%, it's nothing harmfull.. it is almost impossible to find a 100% pure chemical... not that I am crazy about injesting the shit anyway, but yes, go for the cheap place... trust me, I have been in your shoes before, it's the way to go!

Thanx for the advice!
Just ordered some for less than a 1/10 of the price of previously mentioned source.

If you are concerned, then just distill it. After all, it is an industrial chemical not meant for human consumption. After distilling a small amount of it, if there is nasty shit left over, it would be a good idea to continue to distill it. If there is no nasty shit left over, then don't bother continuing to distill it.

distilling it may or may not work. if the impurity is water or another solvent, as it very well may be, you could potentially have an azeotropic mixture and end up distilling the solvent as well as the chemical you want. this doesn't pose much of a problem in this case since the solvent is unlikely to be all that harmful.
you will never find a 100% pure chemical, it doesn't work like that. extremely pure chemicals are available for analytical purposes, but for most synthetic purposes you'll find about 99%. such chemicals are always labeled "not for food or drug use"; food and drug grade chemicals are sold explicitly for those purposes and must meet special requirements (like USP grade purity).
