I’ve tried some unique ones.. like 6-monobenzoyldihydromorphine. But Heroin will always be king in my book.

Well, esterification of dihydromorphine REDUCES potency, be it diacetyldihydromorphine, 6-monoacetyldihydromorphine or indeed dibenzoyldihydromorphine or 6-monobenzoyldihydromorphine.

It's because the pKa of the 6-monoacetyl is less favourable and of course because the C-ring of dihydromorpine is a totally different shape. Plus of course, that heavy benzoyl reduces potency by the simple virtue of increasing MW.

I GUESS someone just refluxed dihydromorphine in benzoic acid. Since the MP of benzoic acid is 125°C, if it's hot enough to BE a liquid, it's hot enough for the esterification to be pushed to the right simply because the water boils off.

But as with all such things, unless it's made by a compounding pharmacy or one has the instumental data, whenever something so obscure pops up, one has to ask if it's real or just a marketing ploy.

It’s actually better to do the hydrogenation after esterfication instead of before for increased yields and fewer byproducts.

But you are right, esterfication of dihydromorphine doesn’t give the super opiate one would imagine.

To further add to that.. I did prefer 6-monobenzoylmorphine to its dihydro counterpart. It’s been quite a few years but I remember while 6-BDHM was maybe a tiny bit more potent, it lacked the full body feel I was needing at that time.
