there is an uptick in windows 7 usage and appears there is a market for it.

They say windows 7 was the best windows. Anything is better than what Bill Gates is getting away with these days.

XP is a great lightweight OS imo as well... still have it running on virtual machines but havent fucked with tech inna bit
too much other shit goin on

Yeah 7 was my very fave windows (but I'm not Mr IT so take opinion with a pinch of salt, I'm not saying it was 'better', just felt more intuitive and user-friendly to me). Also felt less intrusive / spy-like

Hoping all is cool in your world atm @PtahTek ya lovely fella

been using windows since v 3

I've been trialing linux distros for the past few months and finally made the permanent change to endeavour, didn't like ubuntu or fedora as much.

since steam did all the work on linux for the steam deck games support has been excellent, not really much else stopping me changing - though tbh I don't play many games any more.

and the performance boost over running windows 11 has been brilliant.

I did like windows 7, but I wouldn't feel comfy running any OS that's not getting security fixes.

it's one of the few things left in the world that hasn't been utterly fucked into a cocked hat

this plus the fact that you can run simpl!x pack which helps you in getting the esu updates from server 2008 R2 since both share the same exact kernel
10 realistically gets updated by microsoft from server 2019
yup... that moment when you know your shit
so then you can use IIS Crypto GUI v3.3+ updated certificates from GitHub, Supermium or redfox
drivers for 20/30 series...

win7 is the godfather of all OS out there.

I don't get why people still use Win 7

Win 11 is fine with some Rufus magic and some registry hacking but that's been normal since before XP

nothing is especially fucked about Win 11 any more than any other Windows before it was

Windows 7 i s the best windows, but linux is way way better.

sadly, linux will never be better unless you're living in 2100 and me in 2026 ;)

linux is a server OS, strictly this. No matter what, tons of arch newbies aren't aware of fuck all
they lack any sort of input and control
Disagree - as a desktop user of linux I find it far more useful and versatile than any mass-market os I've used.

I don't even like desktop. Why do I want to click around with a mouse like some kind of pigeon when I can hit a keyboard shortcut for command database and AI assistant?

I was happy to see Win 11 start menu because search is in focus and i just have to type a few chars to get what I want, instead of having to visually look around slowly then drag the mouse there and click it. Ugh.

Also have to be pretty sober to aim the mouse right, that's another negative.

I'll not expand as why Linux is completely inmature for daily drive but so be you, you do you. I'll stop here, as for those who still drive Windows 7, do it. It will still work for another 15 years from now, for daily usage. There's tons of workarounds if you're a video editor or audio.. but tbh if you're on audio side, you'd prefer mac but even so, win7 still does the job, modern speaking.
what i'll say about linux and this might be it, because this is it... the open-source community lacks moral guidance. What Linux did for the world, was to simply avoid an Apple/Microsoft monopoly, and you see this is in your living room or your pocket.
take care
