Opioids Buprenorphine horrible brand.

I actually quite liked the Sun Pharms "970" imprint bupe... I'd take those over those rotten strips any fuckin' day. That being said, you are not the first person I've heard say this. Is it placebo? Is it just the composition of the pill itself? Is it a legitimate discrepancy in dosage? Who knows. We all know generics are supposed to be within an 80% to 125% Cmax absorbtion rate, but I know I've had generics I thought were absolute dogshit. ("Stinky pinky" and other strength Core Pharmaceuticals Adderall IR, I'm looking at you.) Keep it under your tongue longer and don't spit, or if you HAVE to, intranasal, though for recovery and maintenance sake, that should be avoided at all costs just like injecting.

^ I would also take them over the strips.

Pill composition mixed with placebo is where my money is. The fact they weigh like twice as much as the hexagons is a bad sign already. Rule of thumb --- less binders : active ingredient the better.

Im not against nasal usage either -- may be safer overall when you consider the tooth damage actually. Of course if this kinda thing triggers you to relapse dont do it...

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but the strips are definitely NOT the only ones that'll rot your teeth. Much to my dismay and unpleasant surprise, the tablets are just as harmful as the strips, if not more so. According to a few vague Internet sources, a sub dissolved in saliva has roughly the same pH as stomach acid. I was skeptical until I tested a sample from my own mouth with a pH test strip. It seemed to be about halfway between neutral and as acidic as stomach acid judging by the color chart, and there's also the fact that since starting subs (officially and with actual therapeutic dosages) in late 2020 my upper teeth were mostly gone by 2024. I have 1 still clinging on lol and I wish it'd just go so that I don't look like a crackhead.

The pharma companies knew about the issue, I believe it's the orange-ish flavoring they add. Note that (unverified but makes sense) Subutex (buprenorphine with no naloxone and traditionally no added flavoring) is supposed to be pH neutral. I've raised the issue with my doc, he promised to read up on it and have a conversation about possibly switching to subutex. Contrary to popular opinion, there's no law or regulation saying only pregnant women can receive that particular medication, just a heightened risk of abuse and diversion.

Yup.

I actually complained to the FDA a long time ago about it. Because if you look at the inactive ingredients in generic Suboxone tablets (buprenorphine/naloxone), it's the EXACT same shit as what's in the strips (most brands anyway). Buprenorphine itself is weakly acidic, but I truly believe it's all the citric acid & artificial sweeteners they put in there that rot your teeth. So if they know brand name Suboxone is bad for your teeth & health in general, then why are they allowing all these generic companies to produce the EXACT same formulations? It ain't just the strips that are acidic, it's literally all the Suboxone generics that contain any sort of flavoring.

You're right though, Subutex & it's generics contain no sweeteners or flavorings & these teeth issues & such don't seem to be as associated with Subutex as much.

I begged & pleaded with my doc to switch me to Subutex or just generic mono-buprenorphine, but they wouldn't do it. Which was ridiculous because this same doctor admitted they knew the whole "naloxone" thing was a gimmick to sell Suboxone. It has literally zero effect on anything, just another pointless ingredient to make money off of. The only excuse my doc kept giving me was that "Subutex sells for more on the streets". It's like uhm.. okay? And that has literally jack-shit to do with me.

Hopefully your doc listens to you & gives you the healthier alternative.
I'm almost convinced at this point that they're putting all that shit in these suboxone generics on purpose to ruin people's health. Why is there no non-flavored brand of generic subs? Hmmm. So they stigmatize & make the cleaner version (Subutex) harder to get, while every generic brand of Subs rolls out the same acidic, unhealthy crap.

Not only do they put citric acid & artificial sweetener in there, but they also put a lot of carcinogenic shit & preservatives in them.

Dental problems with buprenorphine dissolved in the mouth are a documented concern, and people's experiences deserve to be taken seriously. However, the warning covers both films and tablets, including buprenorphine-only products. We shouldn't present Subutex as free of that risk or recommend snorting tablets as a safer alternative.

Also, naloxone having limited effects when used as directed doesn't mean it has “zero effect on anything.” Please provide reliable sources for claims about carcinogenic ingredients or manufacturers deliberately causing harm.

FDA advice is to gently rinse with water and swallow after the medication has completely dissolved, then wait at least one hour before brushing. Arrange regular dental care and discuss any problems or formulation changes with your prescriber. Don't abruptly stop treatment because of this thread.

And to clarify my earlier reply: tablets can also be intended to dissolve under the tongue.

Butylated hydroxyanisole you say?
"Reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen"
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK590883/

"Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) is
classified as a possible human carcinogen by groups like the National Toxicology Program and the International Agency for Research on Cancer, though experts note that the tumors seen in animal studies occur in a part of the stomach rodents have that humans lack"

So the consesus is "we're not totally sure yet, but we're gonna use it anyway".

Pretty sure a number of those ingredients are questionable. And they vary by manufacturer. For example, some of the tablets use Acesulfame, Sucralose & other sweeteners which are also identified as "possible carcinogens". And almost every generic brand of Suboxone cotains BHA, along with various other shit. I literally had to sit through various inactive ingredients lists years ago to figure out which brand of Subs was causing me unexplained health issues. So you can bet I've sifted through various inactive ingredients in all the Suboxone generics & looked into a lot of them.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8946744/ :

"Conclusions
In this large cohort study, artificial sweeteners (especially aspartame and acesulfame-K), which are used in many food and beverage brands worldwide, were associated with increased cancer risk. These findings provide important and novel insights for the ongoing re-evaluation of food additive sweeteners by the European Food Safety Authority and other health agencies globally."

There's always the possibility that the sweeteners themselves aren't carcinogenic, but they do have connections to obesity & disruption of the microbiome.

Some of the other generics also use the same ingredients but also have different ingredients too that are questionable.
I had to finally settle with a brand that uses Sucralose as a sweetener. Though, I'd rather not having of these bullshit sweeteners in there, period. So I don't know why you're hassling me over the fact that I don't want to put useless ingredients in my mouth or body.

Also, I don't care if they tell you to "rinse your mouth out/spit afterwards". Have you ever actually used any of these damn products? You can rinse & rinse & that flavor will still be all over your mouth, cheeks & tongue 30 minutes later some times. Also, just because you're not swallowing them, doesn't mean they aren't absorbing into your mucus membranes either. I can't confidently say yet if the sweeteners and preservatives can do that, but I wouldn't be surprised. And in many cases, especially if you're on 2-3 strips a day, you are inevitably swallowing some of that shit regardless. And think about putting 3 strips in your mouth every day for 10-20 years, you think "just spitting/rising" means you're fine? C'mon now.

While there's no "direct link" yet between Suboxone & oral cancer, there are cases that have come out recently.

This is the only case I can find, but I don't think it invalidates anything. I just pointed out how there are multiple "possible carcinogens" in the inactive ingredients. Some one ending up with oral or throat cancer after long term use doesn't seem so unrealistic at that point.

And yes, I have been on both buprenorphine/naloxone & just mono-buprenorphine. There is absolutely ZERO subjective difference to me whatsoever in the two. Plus the binding affinity for buprenorphine is so much higher than naloxone, that the naloxone is not going to "block" the buprenorphine (not mention, why would you WANT naloxone to BLOCK a drug meant for craving & withdrawal relief to begin with?).

Naloxone is also short lived, so even if it did do anything, the buprenorphine would take over after a half an hour anyway.

And if you're an IV user, you're going to have precipitated withdrawal from both Suboxone AND Subutex, because it's not the "naloxone" that induces withdrawal, it's literally the buprenorphine itself, because it is a mixed partial agonist & an antagonist. This happens regardless of how you take it too. If you're dependent on a full agonist & take buprenorphine IN ANY FORM too early, you will go into withdrawal, whether it's through an IV or under the tongue as prescribed. I'm not an IV user, but I've thrown myself into WD using subs under the tongue many times a decade ago. So ultimately IV use should be deterred whether the naloxone is present at all.

So ultimately, yes, the naloxone is completely useless, except deterring uneducated drug users who believe everything that's hand-fed to them by anyone with authority & know's squat about pharmacology. If anything, I feel like the quick wash of naloxone over the receptors might even sensitize them to make the bupe even more effective, similar to how low-dose naltrexone can be used to lower & reset opioid tolerance. But the way they market Suboxone as a "safer alternative" is absolutely a gimmick & I've just described exactly why.

Also, while not directly considered a carcinogen, you can throw Yellow No.6 on the last as well -
Yellow No. 6 (Sunset Yellow FCF) is not classified as a direct human carcinogen, but it raises health concerns because it can be contaminated with trace amounts of benzidine, a known human carcinogen.

Most of these ingredients are completely useless. Do adults REALLY need their medicine to be "lemon-lime" flavored in order to use them? I sure as hell don't. I also don't need it to come in fun colors like "orange" or whatever the fuck. These medicines can be made much cleaner if manufacturers or the country actually gave two shits. These aren't small pills either. For 8mg, a generic Suboxone pill is almost certainly bulked up with 90% all this other crap.

Funny, generic Subutex pills are really tiny & don't need all these ingredients.

No one's telling anyone to abruptly "stop treatment". People have a right to know what they're putting in their mouths & bodies though, because nobody else is going to tell them. People should have the right to know that "hey, if you're using Dr Reddy's generic Suboxone strips (and pretty much any form of Sublingual bupe/naloxone), especially at high doses, you're putting Ammonia & possible carcinogens in your mouth every day". And yes ammonia can be naturally occurring in foods & safe in small doses, but we are not talking about foods. We are talking about drugs that people have to take 2-3 of a day & hold under the tongue for 15-20 minutes. If you don't hold it long enough, it may not all absorb & then you could feel off that day. So eating a food with a little ammonia or Yellow No.6 ain't going to hurt you, but think about placing those thing on something sensitive like a mucus membrane, which you then have to hold it there for a lengthy of period of time, every single day, for years to decades at a time.

As for asking for "proof of intent to harm people", that is my OPINION. I never said it was FACT. And I came to that OPINION by the obvious fact that all of this garbage DOES NOT NEED TO BE in these pills & strips. I BELIEVE they only do it because A) capitalism/greed (can charge more the more stupid inactive ingredients you put in) and B) to keep people sick & coming back for more medicines & "healthcare".

Instead of looking up the inactive ingredients & looking into them yourself, you made me prepare an entire essay for you instead.

When I was using generic buprenorphine/naloxone, I had to settle with Hikma Pharmaceuticals Brand.
It seems to have the 'cleanest" inactive ingredients list. And a lot of side effects & issues I was having on Dr Reddy's and the big hexagons, disappeared (mostly) after switching to this brand. They don't absorb very fast unfortunately, but it's not as bad as the hard brown/orange ones.
Every other brand was giving me concerning side effects after a few years.

So if you think a brand has inactive ingredients that you might be unknowingly sensitive, allergic or whatever to, you do have the right to request a certain brand & manufacturer at your pharmacy.

People don't mention it enough, but people can be sensitive to certain inactive ingredients. And if a person isn't informed enough, they might just quit that medicine altogether & think there's nothing they can do instead of finding a brand that their body can tolerate. It's not always the active ingredient that's causing problems, the inactives can absolutely affect you & your health as well.

For people who are interested in knowing what else is in their meds, you can use this site to find out what's in what & compare the differences.
if some one finds a brand that ends up working for them & their health is better because of it, then ultimately it is helpful.
