This is an old thread but I realised I didn't update, things defo got worse. So I went from 12 to 8mg for a day then to nothing. It took about 6/7 weeks to really start feeling more stable but I did it. I've now been off them since then with no lapse back into anything. Except codeine very occasionally for chronic pain but I only ever take over a max of 24hours and leave 4+ days in-between, usually much much more.
I was honestly prepared for a complete clusterfuck of a withdrawal and I think this helped me. It was definitely manageable and I was in a situation where I was fed and kept with care (went back to parents for a month). The relief of finally getting off was honestly amazing. I really am done with opiate addiction. Symptom wise, I didn't throw up, did feel very nauseous obvs, sleep went tits up for a long time, crying/laughing all over the shop, shaking, sweating, lots of wanking, weird dreams, all the usual stuff but I'd say by week 3/4 I was well on the mend. The last thing to sort themselves out were my guts.
So yeah, to anyone wondering whether to do this, I can only say the benefits well outweigh the negatives. I can actually emotionally connect to people again. Something I didn't realise I'd lost until I found it. Have been in a healthy relationship with an amazing woman for a year now, moved home, am solo parenting my daughter who I lost contact with due to the overdose and changed job to something far more manageable. Life did a serious upgrade. Thanks to everyone who chipped into the thread!
