Question about an unknown crystal substance and its effects

I was sold a crystal substance that was described to me as methamphetamine, but its effects are noticeably different from what I expected. I don't experience a typical stimulant high, although smoking it gives me a brief head rush. I've also noticed that the ritual of smoking it seems to reduce my cravings.

I'm not looking for a source, pricing, or advice on obtaining drugs. I'm mainly trying to understand what might explain these effects and what harm-reduction steps I can take to determine what substance I actually have. Is there a reliable way to test an unknown crystal substance, and are there particular risks I should be aware of?

There are always risks to taking an unknown substances and if its psychoactive effects don't match what they are supposed to be then it doesn't sound like a good idea to continue taking it. So-called meth that doesn't do what meth does? Why bother? It sounds at best like some bogus substance.
You can get it tested with some testing service ( I don't personally know where) but it is a bit of a pain and will cost money. You can buy test strips or regeant kits and they are quick and easy but might not give you the full answer. Like, you could buy a test strip for meth which will tell you whether or not it is meth but without telling you what else it is. So useful but not a full answer.

you're not identifying a random drug from a pic of powder, only way is to get it tested.

just toss it and chalk it up to experience
