i've done every old school drug except meth. i've never seen the appeal. someone once told me it makes you feel like you're tripping and drunk at the same time. no thanks. it's also such a dirty drug. the whole community is untrustworthy, crazy ass, trashy people - i'm just speaking in stereotypes here, i'm not trying to be offensive. i'm talking about common beliefs. people who've been on meth for a while are unmistakable. it causes delusions and psychosis and people believing, like really believing, in spirits and the devil in person and shadow people. no thanks. i already question my thinking enough. i can't understand the appeal. just look at someone ON meth. i live on a property with 2 meth addicts. there's junk all over the place they collect because they think it's worth something. the stuff sits in the yard until it's completely ruined. both of them take on ridiculously tedious and pointless tasks. they talk like idiots. look like idiots. and lose their entire personality. ...not to mention the hightened sexual feelings with leads to promiscuity, rape, diseases, super unwise decisions. i can't see how ANY of this is enjoyable or something anyone would want to experience, not even once.

This is an interesting case, RUC4. Not wanting to try meth is good, and not trying it is even better. Nobody needs that in their life and you're better off just passing it by.

But...

I'm curious as to why you have such a strongly negative view towards meth only.

So presumably you've taken amphetamine, heroin, cocaine, LSD, and of course, alcohol. You're not inherently against drug use.

i can't understand the appeal. just look at someone ON meth.

If you look at the most extreme users of any substance, you can get a similarly negative impression of most drugs. Heroin addicts don't exactly have a pretty lifestyle. Alcoholics are a car wreck (often literally). Cokeheads are a devious, fiendish mess. I'm talking about the extreme cases where the drug has completely taken over a person's life - none of them are good to look at.

I think there are probably far more people using meth than you realise. Many of them probably are not using it daily, and many of them probably have relatively 'normal' looking lives with jobs, hygiene, families, and so on. And it's the same for all the other drugs. If you conjure up an image in your mind of what a drug addict looks like, it'll be based on the worst cases rather than the average user or even the average addict.

Anyway, I'm definitely not trying to argue that you (or anyone else) should try meth, and I'm not defending meth. I just think it's interesting that you have this very powerful, negative view on meth only.

Methamphetamine caused me more damage than any other drug. I think it's wise to stay away. I was on the extreme end of the spectrum @Halif2 mentioned. It fucked my teeth (it didn't seem bad initially in that respect but it definitely caused more rapid tooth decay years down the line), caused me to have a massive psychosis and the anhedonia lasted for months post-use. It took me at least 7 months to get even remotely right in my head. Ime, it's not a drug to toy with and the neurotoxicity is off the charts.

i would say my negative view is possibly due to experiences with people in my life. all of the examples i've seen of users are extreme and chaotic and have changed that person into someone i don't recognize. and no, i have not done any amphetamines. maybe it's because i have a ton of natural energy. i hardly drink caffeine because it has such an impact on my heart and brain. it's probably a mix of these 2 things.

Yes, that´s probably a good decision. Not all drugs are created equal. Methamphetamine turns life into a nightmare both in your head and in your life when you take it too far. It can take things from you that you can´t ever get back. I´m moving this over to Drug Culture guys, as I don´t think OP has an issue or question regarding Harm Reduction.

nah, that's fine. i was really looking for opinions about the positives of this substance. cause i don't see any.

i wanted first hand accounts of positives, but i don't think there are very many lol

Worst experiences with drugs Ive had were from meth. I went through psychosis and shit my pants ON A PLANE back from Miami to Boston. Got taken off in cuffs, almost put on no fly list. I had to sit in the back in cuffs with the cops the rest of the flight, smelling like the worst shite ever. Heard them whispering to each other "hes definitely on something" but they honestly were saying it loud enough for me to hear lol. Literal nightmare scenario. Idk why I thought smoking 20 minutes before I went to the airport was a good idea.... Navigating the airport in that state, alone, was literal hell. One of the worst and most embarassing experiences of my entire life.

oh my. yes, that sounds super embarrassing. so you had to sit with the shit in your pants the whole flight?

that's terrible! miami to boston...that's gotta be a 3-hour flight.

There is a thread about best drugs for sex and reading some of the meth stories it would turn your stomach enough to stay clear of the stuff

I’ll have to check that out. Can you post the link? If not, I’ll search for it.

yeah but why did you shit your pants though?

There's an Australian documentary on youtube about meth addicts, one women rakes through trash bins for days picking up any old thing
She has it in her head she is helping the community
theres some good old fashioned Aussie characters in it

yeah but why did you shit your pants though?

I have woken up several times with my memory partially blacked out from the night before, trying to piece it together, and then go "Hey! Who the fuck took a shit in my pants?"

Nasty business.

Anyway, I think meth is both totally deserving of its bad reputation, and also unnecessarily characterized as a super evil, destructive drug.

I mean, it's not good for you. It's addictive, it can fuck you up something fierce. But it can also be used in a relatively benign manner insofar as recreational hard drug use goes. It's just that in many places, it occupies the market niche for a strong, affordable stimulant, and as such attracts the people with the greatest proclivity for drug abuse. These junkies are obviously the ones that stand out to passers-by, which makes the drug visible - but mostly through those with the biggest drug problem. The majority fly under the radar.

Meth is a pretty harmful drug, and it has certain properties that make it particularly susceptible to abuse and liable to cause problems. It is readily smokable to great effect (almost as efficient as IV), whereas with most other drugs nothing comes close to shooting. It's much more accessible. It also has a notoriously long duration - and that's what fucks you up, the sleep deprivation.

Nevertheless, the fact of the matter is, the most addiction-prone people are going to find their fix, and this is partially market-dependent. In Finland, our main stimulant of abuse has always been amphetamine, which is not as hard a drug as meth, but the end result for its most problematic abusers looks more or less the same. Recently, this market niche has been increasingly occupied by a-PVP.
Similarly, our main street opioid of abuse is buprenorphine. Bupe is, by most standards, not a particularly dangerous drug. But because the small group of people that are wont to become opioid junkies mainly have access to bupe instead of heroin, people here think it's a far harder drug than it is.

Long story short though: meth is real bad if you abuse it, and it's easy to underestimate how long it'll keep you wired, but it's not as bad as it's made out to be - FOR MOST PEOPLE. If you're one of the unlucky ones, welcome to Hell, abandon all hope etc.
