Advice on Increasing My Pain Medications

Currently, I take OxyContin CR 20mg and OxyContin CR 30mg twice a day with 2 Percocet 5/325 every 4 hours, Naproxen 550mg, Gabapentin 600mg, and Xanaflex 4mg (at night). I sometimes take a Marinol at might as well. I easily build up a tolerance to medications and my doctors know this. With winter coming, my back has been acting up a lot more. I have so many doctors and my primary care doctor has been good with my pain medications.

I thought I read on the Internet that Percocet 7.5/325 was 2 every 6 hours, but I cannot locate that. I was hoping that someone might have a few links / ideas that I could discuss with my doctor, otherwise I am afraid he might send me to another doctor. I already have six specialists that I see, and I don't want to add another one. (I have done a few searches, but most everything seems to point to an online pharmacy or something similar.)

Thank you

^This man speaks the truth. Be honest with your doctor and it will make everything easier in the end.

If you're not happy with what your doctor does, find a new doctor.

For the record, we can't tell you what to say to your doctor to get certain medications. Read the rules.

Talk to your dr about taking Roxicodone 10mg every 4-6 hours instead of the percocet and perhaps adding ibuprofen into the mix. The APAP the Roxicodone has no APAP. I find it to be superior to Percocet for pain management reasons and recreation. Ibuprofen is an amazing drug for pain management as well. The combo of Opana/Roxi/Ibuprofen has worked wonders for me..

Be honest with your dr, only good things will come from that. Good luck!

Not always true lol...

Me being completely honest with my doctor: "These kiddie pain meds called tramadols aren't taking me below a 5 on the pain scale because I used to do oxycodone, morphine, and hydrocodone when I was strung out on meth. Then when I started my "shrubbery" business because I couldn't work due to chronic pain, I started buying vicodin off the streets and was taking 50-70mg daily. I wasn't taking them to abuse them. That's just what helps."

lol...I see that conversation going really well...

What's better: finding an effective treatment, or getting enough medication for 3 days of pain control out of what should have been a 30 day script?

I make due with what I have...I take them as directed...2 tablets QID...8 total daily...and I use other meds as well...I've tried potentiating using anti-histamines, NSAIDs...they got me on a muscle relaxant, pain modulator, anti-deppresant...

I've tried PT, chiropractic therapy, UV therapy, TENS units/electrotherapy, decompression therapy, nerve blocks/cortizone steroid epidurals, pool therapy...I'm really trying...running out of treatment options...Parents are talking surgery, but I don't anyone fiddling with sharp objects next to my spinal cord...I've heard horror stories and there's always the possibility of becoming paralyzed. I've heard of people coming out of surgery with their pain actually worsened, or it didn't give much relief and then actually caused them to have pain in new places...Like I said...running out of treatment options.

No I don't blow through my rx in 3 days...

Not that' honest.. There is a gray area. Be intelligent.... Jesus....

And really Tramadol is usually given to drug seekers... so what do you really have to lose at this point? I get Opana and Roxi and a bunch of other yummy shit that makes me feel better.... I used to have a serious coke habit but I don't talk about that as it has nothing to do with pain... Hydro's are about as useless as tramadol to me anyways so.. it's whatever... I hope this conversation is going "well" now.

It's not like I tell my pain management dr... "Yo, I scored a few grams of smack to change it up for a day"....

So how exactly do I tell them my meds aren't as effective as they were when I first went on them? I told her and got this reply, "well the next step up is hydrocodone, and you're to young for that." Tell that to my aching bones, joints, muscles, pinched nerves, and diagnostic testing lol...I wish they thought I was too young for this kind of pain.

I still can't figure out though if "I'm too young" for a standing Rx of Hydrocodone C-III...but I think I've got it kind of narrowed down...

1. I used to smoke weed and she knows this.
2. I'm 19 so there is a higher liability for abuse with me.
3. She's leaving me "growing room" cause I'm gonna have to be on this kind of shit for the rest of my life.
4. She doesn't feel comfortable Rxing me these meds because she is just a PCP and not a pain specialist.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I also have a TENS unit, go to PT up to 3X a week (usually it is a back massage, but thankfully insurance covers it). The doctor I see understands my situation. Each time I end up in the emergency room, I ask for a shot of the Tramadol (I think that is the one). It actually helps a lot (for the bones anyway).

I was able to re-read through some of the posts on here and caught a few words to help me search so that I can give him some ideas tomorrow. When I was going to one doctor, he was giving Percocet 7.5/325 #180 - I don't know if that is the standard dose for a 30 day supply or not?

The primary doctor is the one that prescribes the Marinol (for nauseau and helps to increase my appetite) and when I did go see one pain management doctor about 6 weeks ago, that pain management doctor told me he would probably not want to see me because my urinalysis would come back positive for THC. I could not take that for a week before I go see him, but if something happens (if I forget or I "sleep take it" (I sometimes sleepwalk / sleepeat / sleepclean / sleepdrive thanks to Ambien)), then I would probably be in a world of hurt.

I'll take a look at Roxicodone some to see what that says. I understand that advice here is just advice, so all is appreciated.
