Ive been in Sydney for 3 weeks now and enjoying it so far; great city to live in. But a few things about Sydney stick out like an undercover police in a nightclub.

Above all else is the number of crazies stalking the streets and parks. Now when I say this I dont mean your Kerouac; mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved types. Im talking about the crazies patrolling the likes of Hyde Park boxing and shouting at the top of their voice; or maybe the guy outside MacDonalds with a paper hat on singing nursery rhymes.

I recognise the serious implications of not having adequate mental health provisions, but for the purpose of this thread im not going to get caught up in all that.

Is it just me or does anyone else notice these crazies in Sydney or any other city in Australia?
(There was a similar thread over in EADD a few months ago and it provided a good laugh)

Also that guy in the city centre who is like some kind of human beatbox is annoying as fuck, lol.

Unfortunately we don't have any such hilarity/threat to public safety in my area. Looking forward to hearing about others tho.

They must have cleaned out the families in Queens Park since I last lived in North Ward NickyJ. I remember stumbling that gauntlet more than one or two Friday nights following after work drinks.

The only "crazy" I know by name in Brisbane is Ziggy the bagman.

Harmless dude who sleeps on a pile of rubbish in Toowong. Stinks from 50m away but we used to always buy him Subway on the way home from the pubs. (Wait, I'm beginning to see a pattern here)

^ Looks like Gandolf.

I don't have a picture, but there is a homeless guy who walks around Perth City waving his arms and legs around like crazy. Not sure if he has a personal problem or he's just out of it, but he defiantly provides a interesting sight for the public.

Oh and when i lived in Darwin, there was this chick who we nicknamed "The Witch". She walked around with a staff, robes, dead pigeons hanging off her belt as well with a live pigeon in a small cage which was also attached to her belt. She had multiple piercings with the biggest one being a ring through her nose. Real freaky woman...She used to stop next to random people and just eye ball them from head to toe until she was satisfied and then moved on. :\

I know Ziggy! use to goto bbc many many years ago, harmless guy and is actually quite well off but just chooses to live this way!

This guy is always around Perth and Northbridge. Dont think he's crazy at all but he definitely adds character to the place. (not my pic)

Then there always used to be this woman with an Aussie flag on her bike and scooter who liked to yell out "ozzie ozzie ozzie" and give anyone who would listen a mouthful of nationalistic ramblings. Fairly well notorious in these parts...

There was also a fellow called mad dog. I think he had a facebook page for a while. He too was a keen cyclist who loves a bit of yelling at passersby. People tended to provoke him a bit though because they knew they would get a vigorous reaction, the poor guy. I must admit though there is something amusing about a middle aged man yelling stuff like " I need some tuppy! Give me some snatch NOW!" then growling and riding down the main street

I remember seeing a guy in Brisbane pretty frequently, who was dressed as Marilyn Monroe, also there was a guy in surfers who used to get round in a pink bikini

He's usually only there during the day time. He's still kicking though I saw him this year. I find Northbridge more interesting during the day time, wish I still worked there actually...

I see a lady in Brisbane dressed as Marilyn Monroe allll the time! There is also this really well dressed man who looks like hes a business man who has a nice shopping bag in his hand, who will stand in the middle of queen street mall screaming random things - i never stick around long enough to hear what hes screaming though, but its amusing none the less!

I dont think it matters where you live - you are going to see odd people anywhere in the world! But I guess they do tend to congregate in the bigger cities...

I remember the Pigeon Lady in Darwin. One of so many other incredibly far out characters in that city! I remember seeing her surrounded by a bunch of pigeons in cages/milk crates. She was writing spells (?) on rolls of toilet paper and throwing them around the street muttering to herself...

Belters !! LOL

Cant believe the number of crazies here in Sydney. I must admit to being a sick kind of fucker who finds this stuff funny. Wish I knew the names of the people I see, but every night I leave my flat I see people who are completely bonkers.

The thing I find most fascinating is that most people just ignore it as if its not really happening. I was in the Coles supermarket at Kings Cross the other night and there was a guy walking around dragging a basket and shouting hurry tiger, we have to find some milk for you. I was fuckin rolling around in laughter and people were carrying on with their business as if it wasnt happening.

Keep coming with the characters,,

The Cross and Oxford Street are awesome places for people watching. I remember a couple of years ago seeing this guy in Oxford St completely off his dial wearing only a towel around his waist standing in the road directing traffic. Fuck knows who he thought he was or what he thought he was achieving.

In my suburb in Brisbane there is a local guy, harmless, own house and seemingly well off that we all call the "Chalk Board man". Every holiday, special event, big sport game he would write a phrase that had to do with it.

"Queensland By 14" In state of origin.
"good on ya mum!" for mothers day.:D

He also parades round the streets on a bike with a massive plush toy of Kermit the frog. Hes eccentric we'll say but he adds some good flavour to the place I say.

Odd and eccentric people are an asset to any society=D

Theres a guy who walks around the Darlinghurst area of Sydney with a parrot on his shoulder.

Fuck knows what his name is, but theres always a bird man in every city.
