Wan't sure if this belonged in SO or HL, feel free to move.

I work in a job where I'm constantly moving, doing heavy lifting and such, but I also have to interact with the public. Both of which I can do, no problem at all, but sometimes if I'm having a really busy day busting my balls, I start to sweat pretty bad. It doesn't bother me in small amounts, but when I get done moving bags and then have to interact with a customer I get kinda self conscious about how badly I'm sweating and it kinda distracts me.
I use an old spice stick and keep it on me at work all the time, but it'd be nice to have something that worked a little better at fighting heavy sweating.
Any suggestions?

I use Old Spice as well. I love that its scent is not too strong; it's like a "plain" fragrance, almost natural. I don't have any better suggestions in terms of what deo to use, but in my experience trimming the underarm hair has certainly helped in lessening the sweat.

Trimming your underarm hair will help greatly with keeping the odor at bay as the odor is from bacteria--Hair allows the bacteria more surface area to grow. Washing frequently under there also helps--Is it possible to keep a bandanna/washrag in the break-room to at least pat yourself dry?

As far as antiperspirants go, they're not the safest as they work by blocking your pores which can cause a whole host of issues... If that doesn't worry you, however, I'd suggest trying Mitchum. I thought I used to sweat excessively, and this antiperspirant deodorant knocked all the other contenders out of the water. The only issue I had with it was that if I didn't shower for a day (or if I did shower and didn't make sure to wash it all away), my arm pits would get very irritated. I also shave my arm pits, so more skin-to-product surface area. :P

Let us know what you end up trying. :)

I have heard a lot of talk about a kind of antiperspirant which is made of some kind of crystal (no smell), and you just wet it before use. I don't live in the same country as you, probably, but try googling "antiperspirant crystal"

or i could do it for you ;)
Antiperspirant Crystal

Hope you figure out what works for you :) I feel your pain. I used to sweat a lot too. It made me very selfcontious.

I just bought some of the crystal deodorant (Thai- something), and am very impressed. For years I actually didn't use deodorant or anything... not having much issue.. but there was always a little bit of funk down there. This has taken it away. I can shower at night and still be, with full hair and all, better off than I was using other deodorants back in the day, the next day.

Don't know about antiperspirants though.

I used to use Mitchum back in the day when I would sweat a ton. It helped a lot. You might want to check that out. It's like super hardcore. The down side though is that its so hardcore that it's kind of hard to wash off when you shower.

The human body perspires for a reason. When you use antiperspirants you're inhibiting a healthy body process which will lead to health issues in the future... not to mention most contain aluminum, which, since it's introduction to the US population there's been an alarming jump in alzheimers patients. If your pits stink it's because you're eating too many cheetos, drinking too much milk or something like that. Change your diet and you'll smell like a rose

I have to admit, my pits smell pretty ... er... sweet I think. Mom tells me I need to take a shower, but no one else complains. I haven't worn deodorant in a while. Perhaps three weeks? I only put some on when I have an important event to attend where I need to smell good.

^^ I don't use shower gel. I don't use shampoo. I don't use deoderant. I don't use anti-perspirant.

I only shower with freezing cold water. I don't use a sponge, I use a rough flannel.

This has eradicated any potential to smell terrible of B.O. When I used to use deoderant and shower with hot water, I would smell of sweat sometimes within half an hour after the shower!

Since stopping the use of any of these unnecessary chemicals, my hair is thicker and better looking, my skin is MUCH softer and smoother looking and I have noticed a lot more distinct interest from women. I put this down to not covering up pheromone output, perhaps? Whatever it is, it was the best decision i've ever made.

For the first 2-4 weeks of no anti-p and no shampoo, you smell a wee bit worse and hair looks greasier but after a short time (tbh, with me it was only about 1 week of greasy smelliness and not even that noticeable) you come off better in the end :) I worked as a gardener/landscaper which is heavy work, aswell as in a restaurant which is hot and fast-paced too, but was ok with cold showers and no anti-p and rough scrubbing with a flannel. Try it out! Also, diet has a HUGE part to play in it. Some people I know eat terribly and smell of B.O constantly, despite showering frequently, and it's a really acrid, horrible B.O smell. I can smell ok even after 2 days of no showering and rigorous activity, and even when it does smell of B.O, it isn't all too caaaraaazzaayyyyy.

Good luck, brother

^interesting.

Because of a fear of chemicals, which is warranted as I believe I'm sensitive to multiples ones... I switched to using baking soda to clean my body. I've gone from showering once a day and feeling greasy by the next or even same day, to showering once every two days and still feeling dry and clean for the most part even up to the next shower. Three is pushing it, however. Two is perfect. I just use my hands, as the grit of the baking soda works excellent to remove, say-for test, an ink stain on my skin within seconds, where washing with soap and a wash-rag before took quite a bit more work. Handful of change smell? Wash hands with soap and it's likely to still smell like that dirty change. Wash with baking soda, in about half the time, or even less.. ten seconds lets say, and it's gone completely. Yea, it's a deodorizer, too, but the fact that it removes debris and foreign chemicals, ink... from the skin so fast tells me it's doing more than just deodorizing. In fact, my skin feels a little raw sometimes after using it... which is one reason why I try to keep it to every two days. No lather, but still works. I shower in very hot water, however. I don't get to sweat quite as much at my job.

I've been told that I look better. I've noticed, actually, that my skin looks better than before. Possibly even my hair.

I think soap normally almost always leaves a little bit of residue of chemicals on the skin/in the pores of the skin, unless you're extremely extremely thorough all over which ... anyways.. I don't know. That or the chemicals from soaps get into the skin and cause issues.. I just know I felt greasy within a day when using the old soaps. Perhaps not the most recent choices, but even those contain chemicals (salicylates) which in too high amount bother me, and applied to the skin they skip digestion that normally would happen with these oils, and go straight to the blood stream. But I still felt dirtier than I do now. This is why I stopped using soap.

Nobody complains. Not that I'm around a lot of people but at work I am for some time.

Huh. That is pretty interesting--I never thought about using baking soda on my hands, let alone body, while I do use it to clean around the house! Do you know if baking soda would take off stubborn things like motor oil/grease?

i dont know. never tried it. i feel like if soap would, this would... given enough work.

another thing is that i am usually more thorough since using this.

I am a huge fan of the new roll on liquid deo for men. I use Dove in specific. I found out a long time ago that I am simply going to sweat, and that I could not stop it unless I were to turn to a more drastic option like a perscription antiperspirant or botox in the pits. I go with the liquid roll on because it offers the same protection as any other antiperspirant, but leaves very little residue behind. So when I sweat, which I will because I am an active person who gets warm pretty quick, I still smell good and don't have nasty feeling armpits. When the sweat dries again no visible residue is left in the shirt either.

Dude I would listen to your mom, everyone else is probably trying to be polite.

Haha, I've been around S_L and she doesn't stink. :P

As far as using Dove deodorant, you're right that you'd have to turn to drastic measures to stop yourself from sweating--I'm glad you realized that. However, I'd just like to throw this out there that if anyone is typically allergic to body-care items with lots of fragrances and whatnot, you might want to stay away from Dove. I am sensitive to many skin-care products and have not had any luck with Dove anything (soap, deodorant, shaving gel). And Avon--Used to tolerate it back in the 90s but it seems they changed their formulas.

When I use deodorant, which is maybe once every couple weeks when I haven't had time to shower after biking, I use a simple tea tree oil deodorant by Queen Helene. Forget what the other brand of deodorant is that I have at work, but I rarely use that one--Though it is just as natural as Queen Helene's stuff.

^ Would that be tea tree by Desert Essence? I fancy that one myself. Haven't even *gotten* to use the Queen Helene's deodorant yet. How long have I been using this bar of deodorant now? Six months?
Lol, I think they're both Queen Helene, actually, but I will check tomorrow at work if I remember.

And yeah, something like that--I know I bought my first "alternative" deodorant back in January or so, and it's still not used up. It's gettin' down there though, which is why I now have two. :P

Tom's of Maine makes all-natural deodorants as well as other companies like Jason cosmetics. Speed Stick isn't as strong but that's what I like about it and it uses natural harmless ingredients also.

Oh without a doubt, AddictivePersona (re: baking soda)

Baking Soda and vinegar are two incredibly useful ingredients for washing your body. You can make your own shampoo's with just Olive Oil (or any of your choosing), Bicarb and Vinegar. No disgusting shit, no nasty parabens or absolutely foul chemicals like Sodium Laureth Sulfate.

I personally just use cold water and nothing else however....though sometimes I rub Olive Oil in my hair and leave to soak overnight, which makes it have a nice soft touch and sheen without looking greasy and stimulates growth aswell (if the woman cuts my hair too short...which is invariably the case)

I was dedicated to Mitchum gel[...]So if anyone knows a good non-staining effective anti perspirant that will not get my shirts all grubby, please let me know.
Have you tried the non-gel Mitchum? Whenever I used the gels, I would ruin countless shirts overtime. Switched to the sticks that aren't gel and are not roll-ons, and have not had any problems with it ruining clothing.
