I'm sorry if there's another thread like this but I didn't see one, not the easiest thing to search for.

My question is: if you produce electronic music, what program(s) do you use to make music? Alternatively, what synthesizers/equipment do you use?

secondhand knowledge is also welcome.

software: Ableton Live Suite, NI Komplete

hardware: MOTU 8pre interface, Novation ReMOTE61 SL keyboard, APC 40, Fractal Audio Axe FX

I always get asked this question by peeps who listen to my stuff and they're always incredibly surprised when I tell them that all I use is an old copy of FL Studio 5 and that's it :)
Sometimes I'll use Adobe Audition 3.0 for certain things.

My mantra for producing music is it's not what you use, it's how you use it, the outcome and how much fun you have while making it ;)
A bit like sex really....

I was actually wondering the same thing recently. I asked a friend who was dating a producer in my local scene and she recommended 4 different ones but I haven't had the chance to check them out yet. I probably will this evening though.

KORG Electribe, it was so badass before someone stole it :(. 5 track synthesizer with a drum machine.

As for software I just use Audacity because its free and I don't need anything more complex ATM.

I'm no producer more of an explorer. try before you buy a few DAWs and go from there.

I use reason, ableton (lots of cool VSTs), recycle, guru & audacity.

I use FL Studio, a whole bunch of random VSTs, and Audobe Audition, all on a shitty computer.

+ an AKAI MPK25, a Toneport for recording guitar and vocals, an AKG Perception condenser mic, a pre-sonus wave/ss dual preamp, 2 KRK Rokit5 Monitors.

+A Fender Squire, Some cheap Les Paul knockoff, and an acoustic Yamaha

Hahaha exactly. People don't understand how powerful FL Studio really can be (or how little your DAW actually matters at all once you've become comfortable with the interface)

Fl studio 9 xxl and a guitar i plug into my lap top

i got a fuckload of really nice vsts... junglist, z3ta, massive, hydra... the aul classics yanno.

I use logic pro, fl 10 and reason 5 :) and produce anything im feeling, dont really limit myself to a genre. If the reason for starting this thread is because you wanna start producing then id recommend downloading the fl demo, its beginner friendly and its pretty massive for a demo except you cant save and a few other bits and bobs

crazy that some of you can make due with just FL. just shows the power of their software and your ingenuity

To be fair fl is the more casual easy going daw. Thats probably why some people choose to stick because they're not that serious about it. Im guessing anyways :P

Where to start?

im not sure if this is thread worthy so i'll just post here and see if you guys think it is.
my friend and I wanna start making music (techno, drum n bass, trance) but have no idea where to start, can someone point me in the right direction? is there a specific labtop i should buy haha?
