Modified ecstasy could one day have a role to play in fighting some blood cancers, according to scientists.

Ecstasy is known to kill some cancer cells, but scientists have increased its effectiveness 100-fold, they said in Investigational New Drugs journal.

Their early study showed all leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma cells could be killed in a test tube, but any treatment would be a decade away.

Yeah, obviously only 0.1% of the readers are going to give a flying fuck, but I happen to be in that minority so the BBC should definitely have catered for me. If anyone has a link to the abstract (or could even just post a skeletal formula) please, that'd be great.
 
According to the more conspiratorially-minded old-skool pillheads we've been consuming 'modified ecstasy' for years. ;)

Still, interesting stuff. It'd be the most exqusite of ironies if one substance that was portrayed as the scourge of the Western world ends up playing a part in winning the battle against a genuine killer.

^I've looked on both of the universities websites and on google scholar and I can't find anything published. Maybe someone else will. Would they give the chemical name away or even give any clues away because if it isn't even patented yet?

thanks for the effort jan, but that's a pretty serious trawl, a search for "ecstasy cancer" didn't get me the info I wanted so I gave up.

I wonder if society will thank us for guinea pigging ourselves one day. I can see bronze statues of ravers being erected in town centers across the UK.

Gotta love how conspiracy (like PC) is used as a put down. Why is it 'conspiratorial' to say criminality has taken over the black market production of ecstasy? Or are all criminals really 'good' people in your world who will give you 100% MDMA because, after all, criminals are humans too. :)

I imagine the "Ecstasy" the scientists think they've been working for years is actually fucking pips.
