looking for a certain type of movie to watch on LSD

watched Blade Runner the other night while emerging from (or was it entering) an m-hole. left me thoroughly confused, Blade Runner does that at the best of times anyway mind.

Waking Life, quite thought provoking and trippy to watch. some of the convos the people have are amazing. and the visual-ness of it is pretty fucking trippy

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koyaanisqatsi

"The film consists primarily of slow motion and time-lapse footage of cities and many natural landscapes across the United States. The visual tone poem contains neither dialogue nor a vocalized narration: its tone is set by the juxtaposition of images and music. Reggio explains the lack of dialogue by stating "it's not for lack of love of the language that these films have no words. It's because, from my point of view, our language is in a state of vast humiliation. It no longer describes the world in which we live."[2] In the Hopi language, the word Koyaanisqatsi means "crazy life, life in turmoil, life out of balance, life disintegrating, a state of life that calls for another way of living"."

It might be difficult to find this film in HD though. It has some mind blowing visuals and a philosophical message - if that's the way you want to go. :)

thankyou very much, just ordered this off amazon =D

i also recommend planet earth, or some old disney films could be interesting. or even some new ones?

Planet Earth is just breathtakingly gorgeous, with peaceful narration to go along with it.

If you're looking for a philosophical movie, try out Waking Life. It's about lucid dreaming and really can fuck with your head if you pay attention.

EDIT: I just realized I basically reiterated what the poster above me said. Oops P:

I checked out the Animatrix second renaissance last night, I found it quite disturbing. I would not watch that whilst tripping!

The movies people have mentioned such as Waking Life, Enter The Void, Animatrix, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Naked Lunch, Donnie Darko etc, all the classic headfuck films are all far too dark and creepy for watching under the influence of a psychedelic like LSD or shrooms. I just don't know how you can even think of watching those whilst tripping, the thought makes me almost physically sick.

Animatrix would probably be a bit too much while tripping. But I think Waking Life would be a good choice, so long as your dose isn't too high...

The Science of Sleep is a cute little foreign film, also about dreaming. But it's much more light-hearted than Waking Life.

There's also always Fantasia. Dancing brooms, luxurious music and Mickey Mouse? Sign me up.

Anime...

I second the Animatrix.

That shit is hard.

Some of the short stories in Animatrix are quite suitable for LSD, but other can be a bit too extreme or simple shallow.

Out of animes, I would recommend the following:

Iblard Jikan - "The film is 30 minutes long and consists primarily of Naohisa Inoue's fantasy paintings of the Iblard world. Studio Ghibli digitally animated portions of the paintings and integrated original elements into the scenery. There are 8 separate segments, each featuring a different painting or landscape and instrumental musical piece. The film focuses mostly on static shots of "moving" scenery: Inoue's paintings digitally altered, so that grass moves in the wind, people walk, etc. There is no dialogue in the film." - 30 minutes of laid-back, conceptual visuals done in impressionist style. Really beautiful if you watch it in HD.

Far out stuff:
Angel's Egg - "Angel's Egg follows the daily life of an unnamed young girl in a surreal world of darkness and shadows." - Might be a little too much. Very good ambiance though.
Blame! - "In a shutdown area, thousands of levels overlap each other, you couldn't tell the sky from the ground and you couldn't tell which way is up or which way is down. Maybe the original purpose of this story is to unravel the mysteries bound in this time and world." - Again, this one might be difficult to follow when you're tripping. Lot's of beautiful imagery and ambiance, but I am not too sure you could call this movie peaceful.

Oh, pshaw! You must have an easily fuckable head! All those are GREAT tripping, but not tripping so hard that you are easily confused between whats real and whats trip... a light enough dose you can still follow a story and think a little. I find while "dark" those are all wonderfully bright just under the surface, while tripping you are more easily able to recognize the symbolic redeeming points about the nature of life & love etc that they are making admidst the darkness... as if to say "Yes life can be painful and scary at times, but look at all the good features like beauty, self-determination, love that you would be missing if you were NOT alive." Such messages are often in brief little transcendent moments that while they occupy not alot of screen time, often contain the real points of the film, like a glimpse of the light at the end of the tunnel. For example, in Matrix Revolutions (yes, too violent loud and brash, but I LOVED its John Adams inspired mega-complex and thrilling orchestral score), the one moment that total MADE the movie for me lasted all of 5 seconds, when Neo and Trinity are flying up in their ship through dark clouds, machine attacks, etc, and suddenly they burst thru the cloud deck and see the real blue sky and real gleaming Sun for the first and only time in their lives, and the music goes from churning chaos to an elegiac calm soaring moment of utter peace and clarity, unlike ANYTHING else in all 3 Matrix films, the contrast was just SO awesome that I got goosebumps and a tear in the eye, and that ONE LITTLE MOMENT was what I recall most about the movie and it made me think all sorts of unlikely and wondrous things... pure genius. And YES I saw it tripping pretty hard on 2C-I. I was not freaked or upset at all, just exhilarated.

I strongly suggest you try watching one of those films you mention tripping sometime as an experiment... commit yourself to watch THE WHOLE THING and not turn away early... see if your tripping mind does not in fact accentuate the "silver lining" far MORE when tripping, enabling you to see alot more positive qualities that you previously realized was there.

A lot of interesting movies have been suggested, in my opinion however some of them are very inappropriate suggestions for this thread.

For example Gummo or Waking Life are nothing like what the OP describes he wishes for in a movie, don't get me wrong both are very good movies but watching Waking Life stoned was enough to take me on a wild ride and I wouldn't say I'm that sensitive to this sort of stuff.

Another suggestion I don't agree with is Enter the Void which in my opinion is just a pretty movie that lacks substance and doesn't have much to offer.

Winged Migration, the recommended nature documentaries, Ashes and Snow, 2001: A Space Odyssey and if you feel like pushing yourself a bit but probably in a worthy direction Baraka and Koyaanisqatsi. Oh i'm not sure if it was mentioned but the BBC doc Life narrated by David Attenborough is another great choice, at least it worked for me while on a Morning Glory trip.

ya i was just giving some examples of some trippy movies that some people enjoy, and i wasn't recommending those. gummo took me 3 days to watch the first time i saw it. it was just too much "wtf?" and depressed me. i watched it while i was stoned, and it was back when weed was a lot more "trippy" than what it does to me now. a couple of the scenes really set me back, and then there were also a few that were hilarious too tho.

something that could maybe be interesting is watching old homemade videos of you when you were a kid? i can see that tripping me out hard lol.

and the disney movie idea seems kind of interesting too, since when we're kids those movies seem so magical and captivating at that point in our lives. personally i wouldn't "waste" an acid experience on it though. maybe if i had multiple trips under my belt and i was just thinking of new things to do would i try it out. can't see me getting tired of being outdoors though.

one thing i would check out is see if they have a planetarium in your town (you know, those big globes with all the stars and constellations in them). i've heard that sometimes they have special viewings where they play music like pink floyd and stuff. now that could be pretty cool.

Through The Wormhole with Morgan Freeman is also great, if you're into awesome science-related stuff. A lot of it is theoretical. I love watching it stoned, because it blows my mind, and usually also offers striking things to look at.

First time LSD tomorrow, together with my girlfriend. We'll be on about 110-120 ug each, lab-tested.

So far standing ready on my laptop:
1. Planet Earth
2. 2001: A Space Odyssey
3. Koyaanisqatsi (I'll be careful with this one though, just want to have it ready in case I want to try it out)
4. Ice Age 3
5. Milkdrop Winamp visualization

I was wondering if anybody would recommend Inception, or would it probably be to big of a mindfuck?

The plot of Inception is impossible to follow totally even straight on my second viewing. You need like a notebook or chart to diagram out what level of whose dream they are in etc. Yes some wild visuals, and an awe inspiring atmosphere, but throw in drugs and you will basically just be on a visual roller coaster. I saw it first time on a modest amount of 2C-I and it was a fun and intense "out there" experience, but I had NO idea whatsoever what I had just watched, just a confused jumble of a movie, a film-school project of "Lets see how complex you can make something on film and what that severe level of uncertainty about what is going on has on the viewer." And the acting is totally flat and dull, you really cannot give the slightest fuck about what happens to these robotic characters who really dont seem to care about anything themselves.

On the other hand Waking Life is ABOUT the nature of consciousness and reality and the mind, and visuals are the perfect mix of simplicity and suggestiveness for your tripping brain to fill in lots of fun stuff with the acid visual effects. A simple enough plot to be able follow drugged, but with lots of food for thought. You ought to add that to your list.

You might find 2001 too elongated and slow while tripping... true, it's so perfectly poised that that might not matter, but sitting thru 3 hours of really slow moving stuff is a high price in trip-time to pay just to get to the 15mins of trippy light show at the end, IMO... I would not waste a trip on it. Koyaanisquatsi will instantly captivate you, the time lapse as well as real time visuals of nature are more beautiful than anything you ever saw or imagined. Every frame beginning to end is a classic artwork. It's really not scarey or a downer or anything... Its like you become The Eye of God or something. A real learning experience. Definitely be sure to watch this while still in the trip. The Ice Age cartoon, I dunno, I find toons too goofy to watch tripping.

And if you can, hook up the laptop to a real TV... visuals as glorious as those in you list NEED to be seen on a proper sized screen... everyone is so brainwashed into thinking that looking at films on tiny little screens and listening to tinny little earplugs is proper, I dunno, I think its kinda silly... give me a big screen and a major amplified loudspeakers setup that you can FEEL IN YOUR BODY is the correct way to experience these things...they seem MUCH more awesome and significant that way, as opposed to being some fake itty bitty pretend-toy thing on a little laptop screen and squeaking little speaker dots.

Thanks for that reply. Already thought inception would be to hard to understand really.

I'll just have the other movies to try out, fat boy on the floor, good music streams, my laptop with external sound card, a splitter and two good headphones. In that way me and my gf can listen to the same music and also the movie audio. Unfortunately I only have a big CRT-TV. My laptop display is quite good actually, I was already drooling to planet earth in HD a few hours ago. Yes, it's a bit smaller, but we'll just put it up close then ;-).

I'll post back after trying those movies tomorrow.

No way! :) I was actually on a moderate dose of 2C-T-2 the first time I watched Inception. I followed the plot just fine, and the whole story blew me away. That film is incredible, and will blow you away with excellentness whether you are sober or not. Waking Life however, that film has you lost in the coridoors of your mind and is not suitable for watching whilst tripping if you are sensitive to those aspects. But horses for courses eh.

you should do what I always do on lucy...

Turn on cartoon network or something, mute the TV and blast mad dubstep.

I love watching all the cartoons talking in bass wobble dialect

^^
now that just sounds filthy %)

lol. i love dubstep, but not sure if i could personally handle some of the tracks i normally listen to. when i do lucy i introduce myself to some chill/relaxing music to help boost the positive emotions. i will occasionally put on some tool though, as some of their tracks are really good to check out on lucy.

We ended up both taking only 1 piece of the blotter, so I think it was quite a low dose. Lot's of closed eye visuals (didn't need Winamp Milkdrop, that was already in my head) and patterning going on throughout the whole house. I especially liked our plants: they totally came alive. At the peak I was somewhat busy in my head, thinking a lot, but not too intense. [This just to give you an idea of how far 'gone' we were.]

We loved watching some planet earth docs, it gave them a whole other dimension. After a few hours we watched Inception, with a crazy 3D-layer on top, it was very nice. On this low dose we could follow the story line quite well.

Well that's pretty impressive. A fun ride, but even watching it straight at any given moment I couldn't have told you what level of whose dream they were in for what reason... 50-65% befuddlement at any given point... I would have to watch it 3 more times with a big chart to diagram everything out which must have been how it was constructed.

But great your trip went so nicely (if mildly)!

I always thought 'Memento' would be good on psychedelics. But in the context of what you're looking for I'd say probably Planet Earth, it's so peaceful.
