i was wondering if anyone knew of any good peaceful movies. as in, the type of movies that just shows images of beautiful landscapes and stuff like that, with ambient music playing in the background. id like to watch something like this when i drop acid next time

I'd go for baraka or a movie (doc) called home. Both are superb. Also look stunning in HD.

"The film consists primarily of slow motion and time-lapse footage of cities and many natural landscapes across the United States. The visual tone poem contains neither dialogue nor a vocalized narration: its tone is set by the juxtaposition of images and music. Reggio explains the lack of dialogue by stating "it's not for lack of love of the language that these films have no words. It's because, from my point of view, our language is in a state of vast humiliation. It no longer describes the world in which we live."[2] In the Hopi language, the word Koyaanisqatsi means "crazy life, life in turmoil, life out of balance, life disintegrating, a state of life that calls for another way of living"."

It might be difficult to find this film in HD though. It has some mind blowing visuals and a philosophical message - if that's the way you want to go. :)

I will definitely be watching this the next time I'm tripping.

While very good movies I wouldn't call them peaceful, both have their dark side, I have watched Baraka on my first LSD trip, a low dose, and it was a bit too much for me. Halfway through I stopped watching and I only listened to it. Both movies are really nice and can be watched sober if you have a bit of patience.

Koyaanisqatsi (crazy life, life in turmoil, life out of balance, life disintegrating, a state of life that calls for another way of living) does this sound like a peaceful movie? It's soundtrack alone could be overwhelming on LSD.

I'd recommend Ashes&Snow or Microcosmos (if bugs don't freak you out) which are similar to the other 2 in a way but a lot more peaceful.

those were the first suggestions that came to mind to me too...

for beautiful scenes you might also want to check out Earth, its also wonderfully narated and has some of the best footage ive ever seen.

in regard to koyaanisqatsi... ive found it to be a bit overwhelming if watched during tripping, but indeed the soundtrack is awesome. there are other movies by the same director, but they are even weirder to me.

couple years ago i remember someone recommending "The Cremaster Cycle". His username began with a P i think. Personally, this film looks like it would trip me out hard sober, and there is no way I would intentionally watch it under the influence of acid. some may enjoy it though. Look it up it's some pretty weird/interesting stuff.

Gummo will trip you the fuck out too.

If i were to watch a movie on acid tho, i'd probably want it to be Planet Earth. Watched one when i was really high on weed once and it tripped me out just how amazing life was. It was one that dealt with the northern seas, and it showed these Beluga whales that were trapped by ice for miles and miles, and there was only one small hole in the ice that was getting them oxygen. The ~30 whales were keeping the hole open by each takinig turns getting a breath at the top, which would keep the small patch from freezing up. Polar bears look for these holes though, and keep jumping in the water until they are able to wound one bad enough and drag it out of the water. The scenery and footage was so amazing.

I looked into the "Cremaster" stuff when mentioned awhile back and came to the conclusion that it is a pile of steaming horse manure. Ridiculous, asinine, pointless, shallow, self indulgent tripe by an "artiste" trying WAAAAAY too hard to seem "very important". Just a bunch of random craopola free-association completely devoid of meaning or emotion, just the worst sort of "art" that isn't really art, that makes common folk HATE the arts and want to end all public funding for it. Horrible asshole garbage IMO. Avoid like the plague while tripping unless you want to end up in a mental hospital.

THIS is what to watch tripping. Utter true genius. Visual and music both. A real landmark in artistic output by the human species. Now don't expect it to be "calming" or "soothing" like the OP says he was seeking... it can be rather disturbing in places (but also has more parts of superlative beauty and awe).

But then again... if you are tripping you should WANT things that are thought-provoking!!! Tripping is NOT NOT NOT about being "soothed" or "calmed", hahahaha if you think that's what it is, you are in for a great surprise... if you are wanting to trip, you are necessarily ASKING TO BE CHALLENGED, and you need to go into it with that knowledge... it's not for purposes of light pleasant mind-numbing "fun."

I wholeheartedly recommend Planet Earth! :) Also check out the more recent Human Planet, it blows your mind in a similar but different way. I'm not one for watching television whilst tripping, but I think if you put one of these on whilst tripping on acid or 2C-E or something it would be a lovely thing. Especially if it was on a big screen or projector.

Yeah that doesn't really sound like the mindset I want to put myself in when tripping, especially not on the serotonergics. Although, I've watched some crazy movies on ketamine, but that doesn't really allow you to freak out and punish yourself due to emotional triggers. But I wouldn't watch those types of things tripping on anything anymore. It's how it makes you obsess about certain things after coming down.

Saying that, There are a couple of beautiful movies which could go well at least as a purely visual background on a large screen - something like House OF Flying Daggers or Hero. Although there is lot's of fighting, it is in a very beautiful way if it can be said, extremely colourful and graceful movements, serene scenery.

the animated alice in wonderland on acid or ketamine is great... or dumbo! with dumbo u may shed a tear tho lol

2001: A Space Odyssey

I never really understood what all the fuss was about this movie until I saw it on acid. Some of the scenes almost brought me to tears with the combination of beautiful cinematography and amazing music.

You could put together a slideshow of peaceful pictures and have a soundtrack to go with it. You would have control over what you see and hear which would be pretty nice.

come on why don't you tell us how you really feel?

haha. ya i agree with you for the most part, as there is no way i would ever put myself of coming near that stuff while on any psychedelic. personally i don't think it's good for the mind. i like to fill my mind with positive things, not creepy bizarre things that will warp it. for some people it's their cup of tea tho, so i just offered it as a suggestion.

and ya i'm with other people. i wouldnt want to come near a TV while on acid, but if i was going to watch something while under the influence it would only be nature shows as i said.

Yes yes yes yes yes!

Just don't watch Apocalypse Now

I've not got round to watching this myself yet but "Winged Migration" looks look's like a worthy candidate for a calm trippy experience.
