drying frozen mushrooms?

hello friends,
a buddy of mine came across a bag of magic mushrooms (fairly sure they're psilocybe subaeruginosa), picked in SW WA, and he has asked me the best way to store and consume them.
they were sold to him in a big frozen block in a bag...which leads me to the question:

-can these mushies be thawed and then dried?

-will the freezing process pose a problem for traditional drying methods (ie fan, gentle heat)? has anybody tried this?

i've done a fair bit of searching, and can't find anything too helpful in old threads, and because i've had disasters in the past with substances left in freezers that have thawed out for some reason or other, i'd like to know if we can dry them.

it would be terrible to waste these babies, so if anyone has any specific advice, i'd love to hear it :)

Basic biology I think. Freezing them will cause the cell walls to break down upon thawing, the psilliness will react with oxygen and you will be left with a bunch of black goop. Bottom line is we tried this once and never again :)

ok cool. i thought it seemed a bit risky.
but yeah, i could totally see that kind of disaster taking place, so i guess frozen shrooms it is!
thank you sir.

My mate puts his finds from season in the freezer all the time and when he wants to trip he just boils them down to like thick watery goo and just adds the liquid to coke or juice and we fleshes trip hard. you can eat the boiled subs too but mist if the psilocybin has been Burnt out into the boiled down mixture.

So I don't see why the frozen block of mushie should be affected. As far as I know psilocybin is not as sensitive as LSD , for storage as long as they are drying or in fridge freezer?

Please correct me if I am wrong tho, just going off past experience.

Just remembered my mate would store them in multiple containers and then
In the freezer.

Maybe fresh frozen subs with just ice directly around them might fuck them up.

Would actually like to know more about mushy storage as I have never had a big enough find to need to store them for longer than a week.

try freezing and the thawing some lettuce lol
heythatsmybike is on the money
if you thaw them they will turn to shit - as in a limp, gooey pile that won't have a desirable texture haha

smoothies and tea is the go here.

Well Shrooms when fresh are mostly water. Maybe making a tea out of them before you defrost could work, because it's not exposed to oxygen but rather submerged in liquid. That is the only way I could see it working

Lol yeah misk I know all about lettuce, I worked at Maccas for 5 years :p let's just say you learn a lot about biology in such circumstances :p can't believe I still eat the stuff!

The frozen water inside the cells expand and burst. The result is a mushy goo once it is thawed. It shouldn't harm the potency, just makes it a little unappetizing. Smoothies are the best option.

edit: must be an echo in here ;)

lol yeah i used to be a chef...
simmering butter to create a sauce gave me good techniques with a pipe ;) haha the things you learn

yeah cool, thanks kids.
smoothies and tea are my preferred method of ingestion anyway...and yeah, you're right about frozen water inside the cells expanding and bursting - all kinds of frosty icy crap in there.
looking forward to playing with some subs, as i only have only had extensive experience with cubensis.

subs being much stronger, yes? figuring to dose around half (if one wanted to be sensible, ahem)

yeah subs are def stronger.

dose would depend on your previous experience mainly.
but half would be a good starting point, i've never done tea, smoothies or frozen shrooms lol

tea and smoothies are great.
i'm not really a big fan of munching on slimy fungus. maybe if they're really fresh, but otherwise i'd prefer to make some sort of elaborate beverage.
seems to make the whole ride a little bit smoother, and it comes on quicker.

i press the caps into tiny balls and swallow them, had to many to chew them lol.

good luck with it dude, let us know you go.
