Smoking causing an increase in pain...

^Im far from writing cannabis off. I love cannabis and smoke it every day.

I meant more for using it as a treatment for pain, but if you're using it to get high every day anyway it's a moot point.

You'd be best off just trying different strains. It's a similar situation to antidepressants. Often the patient will get put on one SSRI to start off with, and then another, and perhaps another yet again, before being placed on another second and third line antidepressants from different drug classes if their depressive illness is 'treatment resistant' and they're not responding to the drug adequately. Likewise, you need to keep trying strains that are bred specifically for medical patients mainly, rather than ones that are bred mainly for the recreational high, as well as yield, taste etc. It may be that you get through a number of strains before you find one of use for your pain (or at least one that doesn't exacerbate it if you're intent on smoking anyway).

I think if you enjoy weed there's usually a strain most people as an individual get along fine with. The onus is on you to seek it out though.

Of course I could be wrong and this is all very speculative.

Im lucky enough to be a very healthy and happy individual. So using cannabis (or anything really) to treat pain or depression is irrelevant to me, besides the occasional injury.

Only reason I posted in this thread is because I had a similar experience to the OP, and I thought that was relevant.

Hi!

I'm a tetra/quadraplegic, level C6/5 and have smoked cannabis for some years, not just recreationally but it also relieves muscle spasm. The last three years however I have been on and off bedrest due to a pressure sore which has spread to the bone causing osteomyelitis (bone infection).

Over the last 12 months or so I've had fairly mild hip and pelvis pain, however when I smoke the pain increases ten fold and will last for a good half hour before returning to "normal". The spasm does decrease but the hips can still be painful when I reposition my legs.

Does anyone have any idea why the pain would increase?

Cheers,
Krip.

Just take a recreational dose of hydrocodone when you get the pain :P

About this...CD seems to attract those with severe TMJ problems, but I have to regularly pay attention to my jaw and keep it relaxed when I can, sometimes sticking my tongue in front of it. But when I'm not paying attention I clench my teeth really hard, and it starts to hurt quick, and then I realize it and undo it but hey, when I'm stoned it gets annoying. I'm gonna start seeing how I chew when I'm high versus when I'm not now, interesting...

I kind of wrote that poorly... I blame the cannabis. What I meant was that since TMJ disorder is often a neurological condition, cannabis can affect it simply by it's altering of the CNS. The effects can cause things like abnormal chewing and also clenching as you mentioned.
