Tramadol IR or SR

So I have to call my doctor to get a new prescription sent in for tramadol. It's frustrating because I have to take about eight in the morning and 8 in the evening for pain relief yet I'm only prescibed 8 a day. I was wondering if anyone has had better success with the Slow Release at a high dosage. I actually read the Slow Release maybe a bit more recreational because of the way tramadol metabolizes. I'm not really after recreation I have legit pain so any idea would really help me. Thanks

Thank you I'm aware of all the potential dangers I've read extensively. I'm also on two anti seizure medicines Lyrica and Klonopin. So I sort of feel the chances are quite low.

Has anyone taken the SR and the IR and liked one better than the other ?

I actuallly preferred the SR version of tramadol, it always felt better than the IR for recreational use in my opinion.

Not sure what the question was in your first post though?

You don't have to be a jerk I was only trying to be helpful. It's not like you mentioned your other meds in your OP so I didn't know. Just please be careful with trams, I used to take 'em by the handfuls and thought nothing would ever happen. But when I did take them, I'm with Mugz, for some reason the SR's were a little more enjoyable around the 450-500mg area.

And to answer your question that my dumbass-self overlooked 8) , I would recommened looking into some potentiators like Ranitidine or grapefruit juice or maybe add some more APAP or Ibuprofen to your dosing..

My apologies DelRio I didn't intend to come off snappy. I do appreciate the concern. What exactly was it about the SR that felt better ? More relaxing ? And are there really any potentiometers of Tramadol ? I was under the impression there wasn't any. Thanks!

Well although its a weak one, tramadol is actually an opiate so any opiate potentiators should in theory work fine for Tramadol. And as far as the SR type, I'm not exactly sure what it is that made it better, I guess maybe the effects were a little more drawn out and it didn't peak out and fade away as quickly as the IR's...

And it's ok I just wanted to make sure you knew all the risks associated with Tramadol, that's all ;)

Does ranitidine work as a potentiator? I known cimetidine does but wasn't sure about ranitidine, was on my list of things to look up (growing longer by the day and don't seem to have the time at the mo, despite having a week off work, haha..

If the tramadol isn't touching the pain you could try telling your doc this (maybe not specifically requesting something stronger, that doesn't tend to go down so well sadly!) might not work but really, pain should be treated properly in this day and age. Although sadly often it isn't.

Def agree on APAP and ibuprofen, there are stronger NSAIDs than ibuprofen out there too as long as you can tolerate them (ie don't have history of peptic ulcer or kidney problems or asthma - although some asthamtics don't have a problem with NSAIDs) - I find docs are more comortable here with prescribing something like diclofenac than they are at prescribing more opiates. Some people find it works wonders, others don't get much relief at all, but I think it is definitely worth speaking to your doc about getting some better analgesia..

Well I didn't realize it until not too long ago but Ranitidine is actually an antihistamine, and those are a known potentiator for opiates so that's why I put it out there %)

Ooh cool, yeah H2 antagonist, had actually never thought about it being an antihistamine! Might give it a try next time :)

in costa rica they used to have tramadol in liquid vials.

snip.:D. but thanks to my addiction a famous rehab doctor wrote a news paper article that led to it being made prescription.

i know it was because of me. because it came out after i got interened..
