Bupe Starting Bupe withdrawal, getting scared

Hey guys, I have been on suboxone for over 2 years now, before that methadone for 3 years, and before that oxycodone and various other opiates for 4 years.

I have taking under 2 mg of bupe for the whole past year, and recently for about a month have been on 1 mg every 36 hours. My doctor strongly encouraged me to try to stop, and did not write me another script. I have 4 2mg pills left, I have not taken any bupe in over 36 hours and am starting to feel crappy.

I want to know, should I just ride it out? Or should I take my last 4 pills and cut them in to tiny pieces, like 1/8ths of the pill, and taper even more?

I have no benzos, and will not get any because I used those every day for a few years straight and do not want back into that game.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1mg is still a decent dose in comparison to other opiates, so you'll definitely feel some moderate withdrawals if you stop at that dose, especially after being on it for as long as you have. It would be best to take your last four pills and taper as low as possible, preferably to less than .5mg or even .25mg every 36 hours. The longer and more gradual your taper is, the better your body will be adjusted tot he lower dose and not have such a big fall to zero, and should definitely help reduce the severity of your withdrawals.

Also, good job man, you've been on opiates for a looong time so keep up the good work and don't give up now !

Thanks man, really the encouragement means a lot to me.

That is how I cut it, and took one of those little chunks. I forgot to mention I am working overnights until the end of the month, so I called my doctor and she has a back up script waiting for me.

I can't wait to be opiate free, this is just the last hump I have to face.

You can totally do this! If you continue to taper like you have been, by the time you slideoff completely it might not even suck that bad. Good luck! I'll be sending positive thoughts your way!

I'm in a similar situation and used methadone and bupe for some years also.

I dropped off at after a month at 2mg. I found it pretty unbearable and so two days into the WD's I took one dose of 1mg. I think it helped and eased me into the WD's.

Unless you really need to be clean immediately I can't really see any reason why you shouldn't divide up your remaining subs and taper down as slowly as possible. Especially given that you're not going to use benzos - which, btw, I think is prudent and admirable.

Good luck man, keep us posted!

i've come off 2mg before after about 4 months an its hard, the worst thing is it lasts longer than H but it's not as bad. yours might be worse because of the time you've been on it! but i assume you want to get off gear if your on suboxone! you can definatly do it mate, just get the usual b vits ibuprofen an somthing to help you sleep if you can/want it. best of luck to you.

Thanks a lot guys, really positive encouragement :)

I am going to continue to taper until the end of the month when I get off the night shift at work, back to regular days. Sleeping during the day is hard enough at the best of times ;)
