Oxycodone addiction, weed, and violence

I'm an opiate addict, and a few weeks ago I ran out of my oxycodone supply. I started popping vicodin after that, and now all I have is darvocet, which I take with grapefruit juice to keep the cravings away. I'm definitely not getting high from the darvocet, but it's at least enough to keep my cravings from destroying my mind.

However, I'm worried because I only have a few pills left, and any time I stop using for more than a couple of days, my mental state goes to hell. I get get paranoid, violent, and on-edge, not to mention become completely useless for work purposes.

I've noticed that smoking weed helps a little bit, and I still use all sorts of benzos, deliriants, and hallucinogens, but I'm afraid that if I run out of opiates entirely I'll go insane. I have a history of depression and schizophrenia, which start coming out when I haven't had my fix.

Has anyone had experience with this? I'm kind of scared and not sure what to do.

You use dissociates, deleriants and hallucinogens and you have schizophrenia? Deleriants are one of the worst if not the worst group of drugs for causing psychotic episodes and dissociatives are not to kind to people with schizophrenia either. So giving those up would be a good idea. Also darvon can cause alot of problems hence why it is now removed from the market in alot of places. It is cardiotoxic and can cause seizures as well as psychiatric weirdness due to it's toxic metabolite norpropoxyphene. I have only taken darvon - N twice and i would rather put up with the dopesickness because the darvon itself makes me more sick then the withdrawal. Plus it fucks with my head.

Are you getting treated for your mental illness at all? Some meds used for schizophrenia can calm you down during withdrawal and being bipolar myself i know how bad withdrawal can fuck with your head.

Good luck man

bojangles: I can't reply to PMs because I don't have a high enough post count. I'll respond when I get there.

paranoid android: I'm actually not dealing with schizophrenia anymore, which is why it freaks me out so much when I don't have any opiates. My schizophrenia was actually being caused by my anti-schizophrenia meds, and once I quit those, everything went back back to normal (I'm what my doctor calls an "atypical reactor").

Drugs don't usually have any effect on my predisposition to schizophrenia except for diphenhydramine, which leaves me angsty and paranoid for days (so I pretty much stopped using that).

My opiate withdrawals haven't brought back any of the schizophrenic hallucinations yet, but they do bring back a lot of the violent and paranoid thinking, which makes me worried that the hallucinations will return.

If I got back on prescription schizo meds, I'd freak out for sure. Are there any OTC medications out there that might help?

As far as OTC meds or even prescription meds go treating the anger, blind rage and somewhat psychotic feeling you get is pretty difficult. I would recommend talking to your doctor since there are other meds that could be given in the short term to help you that aren't anti-psychotics. OTC meds really only help the physical symptoms of withdrawal which doesn't sound like your main problem at all.

Id still advise you to lay off the deleriants atleast because if any drug can bring on psychosis they will.

I'd play safe with bud too..... even a little can set off a person predisposed to bouts of anxiety and anger. It may not do that with you currently, but any drug, even one you're experienced with, can sneak up an bite yeh right in the medulla oblongata occasional, and with no warning. ;)

Yeah, man you're kinda like the human equivalent of a stick of dynamite, all you need is something to ignite the explosion. I would see a psychiatrist ASAP. Schizophrenia is a severe and degenerative disease, but it is also something that can be monitored and controlled when treated appropriately.
