Let's Talk Craft Beer

When I go out, I like to drink local brews (if not a gin/tonic). For example:

OR, an even MORE local beer (I love this one!!):

AAAND, the classic cheap ass local beer. Makes me feel like a REAL Milwaukee'an:

PBR.jpg

The first is fairly filling, a bit heavy and has a caramel-like undertone. The second is f'ing DELICIOUS, while the third - well, it's cheap. It's Pabst vs Blatz (in terms of 'best cheap local beer').

Oh man, where to even start. I love beer so much. Can't even tell you how much. Not only for my beloved alcohol, but the flavors and scents, beer is teriffic.

I'm not a fan of flavored beers. I can't stand berry beers, and I heard much talk of pumpkin beer earlier... who the fuck wants to drink something that tastes like pumpkin???? barf. (no offense)

Man I like all ranges of beer. Cheap beer, good beer, super-duper expensive beer. I really like strong IPA's a lot, but now that it's summertime it gets a bit rough.

I would have to say my current favorite beer is probably Rouge Dead Guy Ale. I don't drink it often. It's a little pricey, and it's not the sort of beer that you're gonna go drink 10 of every night, but whenever I do have it I fall in love all over again. So awesome, close to the perfect beer I think.

Also, for another super local beer: (I am in CT) Anyone from the area had Tenpenny? I'm drinking that now, it's quite teriffic. As far as I know you can only get it in a growler and it doesn't keep too long because of this, but some package stores still sell it. You can get it on draft at a lot of bars around here too. I recomend it if you can. It's not the best, but it's pretty damn good for as small of an operation as it is.

What about all the other great PURELY american beers such as "DogFish Head" or "Magic Hat" or "Anchor Steam" or any of the other thousands of much more flavorful american beers?

Although I think bud is a poor excuse for a beer and I personally like my beer to have lots of flavor, I am impressed by what they do.

Budweiser starts with an agricultural product such as barley and rice which is something that by nature varies greatly from batch to batch, field to field, seed to seed, etc.. never giving you the EXACT same product. Yet, budweiser applies science and technology and takes something that is normally by nature a random/unpredictable product and turns it into the EXACT same taste, smell, appearance every time.

That is impressive. It is impressive that they have mastered what they do so well where as they can literally make the exact same product every time from starting ingredients that are never the same every time.

I just wish that a company that has so much talent, knowledge, technology, resources, and money would use their skills to create really good crafted beers in addition to bud.

If you are a fan of Anchor Brewing (the original Microbrewery) try their "Liberty Ale"
probably the most consistantly fresh Dry hopped ale, that is worth $10 a 6-pack.
Sorry, but I think dudveiser is too much like a "near beer"

My top three favorites:

Blue Moon
Stella Artois
Sierra Nevada

Now those are some good beers ;)

Sierra Nevada is a good starting point...

So I think I am done drinking beer forever. It gives me gas. I do not get this from wine or most alcoholic beverages. So, fuck beer. Do you guys not get gas and loose stools from beer?

Pour it in a glass , filling w/ as much bubbles/carbonation as possible...quality beer tastes better less carbonated...pour beer from glass to glass to rid carbonation
(gas) it is just a preservitive anyway

WTF right? By the time I was on my second Sam Adams, my head was already hurting. Of course I finished the six pack still, but the headache is killing the buzz.

I has High Life last night but didn't get a headache with that.

You're not used to real hops...IPA's would put you in a world of hurt

Dude, i fucking love Liberty! Anchor brewing company is what I should have said cause all their beers are good.. their porter is off the charts too

Sam Adams is amazing. I have a sixer of High Life in the fridge but I think I'm going to be picking up one or two of these for later on:

Back when Leinenkugals first started botteling their beer (mid 70's) it was shevled
right next to all the imports. cost was alot less -75 cents more than all the macroswill but tasted better than anything on the shelf ( the only style they brewed then was "red ale") Now they have about 15 different styles for $8 a 6 pk. & most
of em' are too sweet to have more than 2...

I'm kind of starved for craft beer being up in the yukon for the summer. If it wasn't for the Yukon Brewing Company I wouldn't have good beer to drink at all.

That said, Yukon Brewings Double Trouple DIPA is delicious.

If you can get yer' hands on some Widmer (Oregon) Summer Citra before its (seasonally) gone... Excellent 6 different hops, not as bitter (style) as Anchor (thats a good bitter) but tastes like all the hops were harvested yesterday.
If you can get yer' hands on any Anderson Valley Brews (California) you cant go wrong there... or Stone brewing, could go on & on...
A couple of newer excellent Seattle Breweries to mention- Ninkasi & Iron Horse
They each brew about 8 different styles, all great !!
All "Bells" brews from a Kallamazoo (suburb) some of the best in the world...

These were part of my night last week... both were excellent

Fraoch Scottish Heather Ale 5%
Scotland
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented. A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt character, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.

granitbock.jpg

Hoffstetten Granitebock 7.3%
Austria
Brewed in large granite open troughs. The granite stones are heated to be white hot and added to the wort. This causes the sugars in the malt to caramelize around the stones and gives the beer lovely caramel and roasted flavors. It also gives the Granit Bock a unique smoked flavor.

^ Nice. I have never tried them The bottle on the top one is pretty sick. Where are they available?

Dude, ive been trying to find these for the past 3 years. You in the states?

I have no idea where they are available around the states, I moved to Maine recently and found them here... There's a nice beer scene up here and being the beer "snob" that I am I'm quite loving it.

^ I am sure they can be purchased online.

One of the bars on LI has a fantastic beer menu.

68 ales and lagers on draught, and 45 bottles. They do not carry and bud, miller, or coors.
