need to change title to PWD's......

Hello everyone. Hope everybody is doing well. havet been to the board in a while or posted and I missed it. quickly......... I quit taking opiates 37 days ago. i also quit smoking cig's 28 days ago. I quit for about two months back in november and december, but got back on them for the holidays!! Brilliant idea, I know.

so I've been taking opiates (hydro's, subs and roxi's) for about 3.5 years give or take. Im trying to figure out how long it will be until my anxiety, sleeping, attitude or my "mind" as some folks call it... gets back to pre opiate shape? I figure it could take up to 3.5 years, but I sure hope that is not the case.

Dont get me wrong I feel A LOT better than those first couple weeks, but my mind just aint right, ya know? I also cant sleep for more the $hours at a time. Does it ever go back to normal? I have child being born any day now and want to get my life strait for him/her.

Thanks,

hurtin

Please believe me- your brain WILL return to normal. Stay the course. It happens very, very slowly. It's so gradual it's almost hard to percieve it, but rest assured it IS happening. Already, you can see you're so much better than a few weeks ago. I think in another 3 weeks you'll be vastly improved. What was your daily use like??

first of all - congratulations on coming this far. especially impressive that you gave up cigarettes at (almost) the same time as opiates. mad props. <3

as for how long it'll take to get back to normal, as theseeker was getting at, it's really going to depend on how much you were using at a time/per day. but after 37 days, i'm inclined to think that things should be a lot better already. did you have anxiety or sleep problems pre-use? a lot of addicts seem to forget relatively quickly that they had existing problems that led them to drug use in the first place, and that just getting clean isn't going to make them totally healthy.

umm my brain NEVER got back to its pre-opiod state..i hate to be bearer of bad news but many other opiod addicts will also agree with this...your mind does improve though, energy will get better as does sleep but again mine never got to the point it was pre opiates...thats why its a bitch to get and stay clean..exercise helps, avoiding stimulants like caffeine helps as well....

damonoxide nailed it..many times an addict wont feel right long after getting clean but its hard to say if its from the drugs causing an imbalance in the brain, is it from the damage caused by the drug use(arrests, personal problems etc etc) or is it simply how you were prior to drugs??for many of us its very hard to remember what 'normal' feels like..

i dont know what you're talking about. I was abusing for opiates for two years, I've been off them for one year, and I feel 100% back to normal.

^^what do you mean you dont know what im talking about??you only used for 2 years, that isnt long..your brain had enough time to recharge itself...i used for over 6-7 years, at the end iv heroin so its likely more srious changes occurred in my case..its quite simple to realize if you think about it...PAWS is a nasty to opiod addicts..some get it, some dont, most longer termers do though..

I was taking about 70-100mg of hydrocodone or 100-130 mg's of roxicet a day toss in a little hydromorphone here and there....... just about everyday for at least 3.5 years. i would take them orally and insufflate them. I have never had sleeping problems and have had slight anxiety but nothing like im getting now. it has actually gotten a little better in the last week or so

I've gone through heavy abuse periods (2 years every day) and after 2 months off, I felt almost completely normal. I'm sure it varies from person to person AND how much/ ROA you used. People here on BL use wayyy wayyy more than 100-130 mg of oxy per day and have come out OK. I'll bet you do too.

Okay and he's used for 3 and a half years, you've used for 7. How the fuck are you telling him that he won't be back to normal? Of course you'll never be back to normal because you abused them for 7 years, 3 and a half years is half the time of your addiction, so you're in no position to be telling him that he won't ever be back to normal.

it wasnt exactly the point of your post but it definitely stuck out to me, i used every day for a little over 7 years (iv heroin) and am now clean... eventually hit baseline(given baseline is a completely fucked state for me). op, id assume most people that are about to have a kid would be in a state of anxiety w/ sleeping problems. some time and situational evolution should do the trick in bringing about equilibrium.

warped-i didnt say he would never go back to normal, i simply shared my experience and what ive seen many others go thru..most opiate users i know seem to get intense cravings or other problem for long after quitting..there is a reason the relapse rate is quite high, dont ya think??
