Hello everybody! And whatupdoe to my fellow Michiganders/Detroiters :)
Today was my first experience with MMT. I got in the clinic at 7am this morning (with not being able to eat anything first), and began my 6 hour stint getting set up for treatment (not being able to eat anything the entire time, needless to say I was pissed, lol). So after filling out an hour and a half worth of paperwork, filling out 2 hours of questionnaires and all that good stuff, I had to drop some piss.
Note: I am a severe addict and would use a gargantuan amount of opiates everyday if I was able.
Back on track: My results come back, and I only tested positive for THC. Not a shocker since I haven't had opiates in a week due to my current conditions, which is good.
However, I didn't know that it is almost ALWAYS a requirement for them to only accept people which drop dirty for more than just THC. After all that waiting, and paying $170, they were trying to tell me that I wasn't going to be accepted and be able to dose today. I explained myself and told them how much of a true addict I am, which is ironic because I've never really had to beg someone to believe I am a junkie, I usually would tell people I'm clean.
So finally after another hour or so, they tell me that I was BARELY accepted.
It just really bothered me that I HAVE a serious opiate addiction, and they weren't going to give me treatment just because I wasn't straight fiending out in withdrawals.
Setting the bullshit aside, I finally got my dose and it has proved to work great thus far. I know it's only my first dose, but still lol, it really helped. I plan on working my way up to my "therapeutic blocking dose", and get stabilized, seek counsel, and engage in fully turning my life right-side-up.
Has anyone ever been denied Suboxone or Methadone treatment based on the same factors that I mentioned? I think it was complete nonsense that they were about to do that to me, but whatever. I feel great about life now and feel like it's actually worth living! =D

That is an odd story..but to answer your question OP, I think they are strict on that because they don't want people coming in just saying they have opiate problems just to score some legal drugs, since methadone does fuck a lot of people up.

Congrats on taking the first step to getting off opiates, you should be proud of yourself. Ive been on suboxone for the 2nd time for around 6 months now. If you'd like some helpful advice, don't plan on being on it for a prolonged period of time. If and when you decide you want to get off the done, (which you should eventually) you run the risk of experiencing some pretty bad w.d's if you've been using for too long or didn't taper down low enough.

Don't jump off until you feel as though your ready, but keep in mind that MMT can be just as bad as regular opiate use of not done correctly and responsibly

Edit: I think you should PM one of the TDS mods and ask to change your title to something more descriptive since the current one is a little misleading towards the actual question. As well as this isnt quite TDS material. I think you'll get more replies that way :)

Okay, thank you, I am dead tired at the moment and have to get to sleep asap, but I will do so in the morning.
I apologize to the mods for not knowing where exactly to place my threads.. my stories/experiences don't seem to fit in the right spot for me ever.

No worries, :) if your ever not sure of where a thread belongs post it in homeless threads and one of the mods will kindly move it to the correct location

Thank you, I appreciate the help.. since I am a noob here and all :P
And also thanks for congratulating me, the littlest bit of support helps even if it is from a stranger whom I just met on a forum, lol. I will set up my taper schedule asap with my counselors, although I do want to push to be on it as long as possible (as of right now anyhow.. I just don't feel physiologically/mentally stable enough addictwise to believe I could do it in any less than 2 years). It would be nice if I could get up to my "blocking dose", then maintain that for as longgg as possible, then start a very very slow taper, to make the unpleasant effects of methadone withdrawal as easy as possible. We all know that can be a bitch if done wrong. The clinic is rather strict as I have mentioned, but I believe this will only contribute to my success! Thank you for your advice.
