Weed changing the brain?

So I was wondering if weed has the same effect like acid, LSD and other drugs where they say it can open up pathways which you can never close? Also if it can does it require years of smoking and does synthetic weed make any difference?

I would believe that marijuana can certainly alter the synaptic structure of at least some areas of the brain.

Long term stimulation of the cannabinoid receptors will lead to receptor downregulation. In essence, your brain will recognize the increased rate of CB receptor signaling and attempt to regain homeostasis. Given that the endocannabinoid system has been implicated in mood and other behavioral factors, I think it's safe to say that for some individuals, a crude readjustment of its sensitivity could lead to deleterious behavioral effects.

Granted- this is in SOME individuals. In others, this long-term change could actually be beneficial.

Personally, I had always had some melancholic tendencies, but after 7 months of daily marijuana use, I fell into a fairly serious depression for nearly a year. I would urge caution; I feel it is a safe drug for the majority of people, but daily use can cause problems.

But long-story short, it's unlikely that any "new pathways" opened will lead to superhuman intellect, telekinesis, or telepathy.....

I don't know if any drugs can really "open up pathways you can never close." Also, LSD and acid are the same drug, although you listed them separately in the OP.

I don't know how many replies you'll get, or if one of my fellow CD moderators will close this, but I'm willing to leave it open for now, apsig has given a good reply and I think answered your question, but as I said, I'll give this one a chance before closing it unless another mod feels otherwise.

Hmmm honestly i think the only pathway cannabis opened for me that cant be closed was anxiety. But now it helps with my anxiety. So i guess it did get closed?

Ha and if your trying to open pathways and expand your mind i say try acid first then when your comfortable with its effects move on to LSD. ;)

I smoke weed every day without fail .

Except for my occasional once a month break I take . Each break consits of a week and after a few days into the break I feel back too my old normal self again . As if I never smoked pot before .

But ya I think it does a tiny weeny bit permanently . Cuz well exposing itself too somehing new and pretty mindblowing obviously is .
But I think it changes it temporarily wayy more .

Also would like too ask if anyone saw that article explaining how it takes 30 days or something too "reset the brain" from cannabis use .

Lol

we all create THC and CBD naturally - having too little or too much this can cause greatly different reactions - this is what will cause the refer madness, or instigate it rather.

heres a link to more of MY relative;-D jabber, with science fact abstracts at the bottom in the NSFW tag.

For me I have only smoked weed maybe 10 times in my entire life and I'm in my mid 20's. I never had to many issues with weed, but it was never really my thing. I did have a very bad experince with some fake weed. Not sure what was in it, but I suspect it was a form of JWH. I had a bad trip from it which I was not expecting to happen nor wanted to happen. This then brought all my issues that I might have had e.i. anxiety, depression and OCD which I had ignored or buried deep in me. The reason I asked is since that night which was 7 months ago I went through a lot of hellish stuff, but things did get slowing better. Now my man problem is anxiety which then leads to depression and they both feed on each other. Also I am going through relationship issues and a life crisis about who I am and what I am meant to do. So mainly I was wondering that since my anxiety and depression are worse now could it have been caused by the fake weed opening new windows in my mind or new pathways in my neurons? Or was this just a traumatic experience that has brought all my issues in life to the surface and will no longer allow me to ignore them. If so then this might be a good since it is allowing me to address my issues. I have an appointment with a therapist next to get an evaluation and see what might be the root cause of all of this. Also does anyone know what kind of therapist I should be looking for that would best be suited to help me?

Panic I thought you'd know better my man. Not to be a dick but the study only confirmed THC receptors present in the brain where neurons were chemically mixed, which results in such a small amount of THC it might not even bind - and if it did bind to CB receptors it wouldnt do shit to you naturally. Not like when you die and you're brain floods with natural hallucinagenics (white light, seeing god, etc).

Anyway OP everything in your post in wrong. A lot of following posts have some worth but the fact that this even exists shows you have done zero research on any of the drugs you named - none of them cause permenant brain damage, but can all cause temporary damage - and not brain damage like holes, brain damage like your receptors and synaptic cleft are flooded with "fun" electrical signals.

Yes I do believe it can help you learn shit at a very fast pace and like differently maybe more efficiently too. But the question is how much does the environment and the DISTRACTIONS around us really play a role in our learning capabilities and or what not shit like that.

weed turns your brain to shit after a while. it doesnt make you spiritual, after a while of smoking skunk youll probably think you're spiritual.
lsd is another universe.

Marijuana definitely alters your brain chemistry, as do most other drugs. Is it something that stays like that forever? Absolutely not. My brain took a while after getting off of marijuana/Xanax to come back to what I feel is 'normal'.

Ive smoked weed where it felt psychedelic. Ive also eaten the same weed in a soup & man was that trippy. It was also high grade which makes a world of difference if you are looking to have a mind altering experience.

Weed never really effected me bad and if I was getting uncomfortable from it I would just go to bed and wake the next day fine. What fucked my over was he fake weed which I have read is similar to weed, but more potent and has now caused long term issues from it.

All drugs will eventually cause alterations in the brain, as the brain is a 'plastic' organ.

I read a book once that included a chapter on the very subject the OP is inquiring about.
The study was looking at tests of cognitive function, an indirect approach of analyzing brain pathways.

I remember these specifics: two groups were tested, one had been smoking regularly for 10 years and the other for 30 years. Upon discontinuation of cannabis, the first group eventually returned to 'control levels' for short-term memory, among other cognitive functions....but it took up to a year.

In the second group, the alterations seemed to be permanent. Abstinence from THC didn't seem to reverse the changes. Of course, you must consider the fact that anyone who smokes for 30 years, is likely to be 40-50 years old during the study. Age itself is obviously a factor. Combine age with THC and you should expect some permanent changes. Perhaps regular use of THC should be limited to your younger years only...

More significant than this - cannabis is associated with a BIG increase in the onset of psychiatric disorders. A very large scale military study shows a 500% increase in the occurrence of schizophrenia among cannabis users.

This does not mean weed causes it, but it DOES set it off in susceptible individuals.
If you are genetically or environmentally susceptible, smoking marijuana greatly increases your odds of developing the disorder.

Since recovering from MDMA use, I have found weed causes sudden and drastic increases in anxiety - occasionally to the point of feeling like i'm going to have a stroke! This is pretty rare, but even on the nights when it still gets me 'stoned', it is WAY different from what it used to be.

I scoff at the idea that weed is a 'gateway' drug, but after a decade of regular use, I strongly encourage younger users to moderate their intake. No drug should be used continuously for years, regardless of its supposed 'safety'.

Besides, taking breaks will lower your tolerance and clear your mind.

At least in terms of addiction, seems no matter long i've been smoking, the fiending will always disappear after 2 weeks abstinence, which is coincidentally the same time it takes for my blood to no longer have THC metabolites (which would be a positive drug-test). We all know weed isnt physically addicting, but at least for me the psychological aspect is not a big deal either.
