regional slang

I'm working in an ice cream shop and people who have southern accents come in and ask for "dips" of ice cream. Dips instead of scoops. :)
 
in St. Louis, Mo and environs they use the word 'hoosier' to mean rednecks or hillbillys. However in Indiana/rest of the US it has a different connotation
 
In Colorado: we use
..."schwag" to describe anything that's lame, not just weed -->"That kid is schwag, man"
..."chill" is heard a million times a day --> "That kid is a chill bro"
... and "legit" all day long --> "That kid hooked it up, he's legit"

We also buy liters or handles of liquor, I hear lots of people from different places call them fifths or whatever. I asked someone what the fuck a fifth was one time and I got looked at like I said that I eat babies.

I'm from colorado, we usually call it a fifth (as in a fifth of a gallon) but most people out here just call it by its volume (750 mL) - "get me a 750 of JD."
 
Any other cities call heroin 'dog food' ?


A while back I was asking my (at the time) crack dealer to find me some H and he tells me, " All I can get is hard, soft, and dog food. "
I understood the vernacular at the time........that was real smack your forehead and shake your head moment.

Handle is typical where I grew up in Michigan, except that it referred to a half-gallon of liquor.

A fifth is smaller than a liter.

A nipper is a half-pint.

A handle is a 1.75L of liquor here in VA as well, never heard it called a "half-gallon" before. 1L bottles (very popular) are called "ones" and 750mL's (fifths) are called "750's".
 
We call em handles here too. I'm pretty sure that calling a liquor store a "packy" is Boston area slang. Whenever I've been out of state people always look at me like I have 12 heads when I say that.
 
I'm sure this shit ain't Pittsburgh specific but some of it might be

Liquor store = State store (that's a PA thing)

fall back = "ima fall back" - like goin to sleep or not fuckin with somethin

cuzo = like "whats crackin cuzo" - Got to be careful throwin that shit around tho to the wrong people

fam = family, I know a lot of places say that but we be sayin it all the time

Dips = Stamp bags

yamean = know what i mean? - I prob say yamean a fuckin hundred times a day, me and my boys can have a whole convo on the phone like "Ima grab the yamean then I got to go yamean then I be thru yamean?" The only people I met that say it as much as we do in Pittsburgh is dudes from Philly.

Pistol = thing, like "you know I always got that thing on me"

Cuttin up = Laughin, "That shit had me cuttin up" or "Shit was cut up last night"

Splow = Dappin somebody up. I say dap but I know a lot of people that don't. Like "What you ain't gon splow me up?"

Pain Pills = Illi's

Feelin some type - Yeah we don't even fuck with the addin the "of way" on it. Like "You had me feelin some type bout that shit"

Half a man - $50 "The cuts is goin for half a man"

Knocked = Gettin caught by the boys. "He just got knocked yesterday"

The boys= Cops



I didn't think I'd be able to think of that much, prob will think of some more later when I'm more awake and talkin to somebody.
 
where we come from we say joe..everybody call each other joe..its part of the language you must know...whats up joe?...no matter if i know your name is jason or mike or bill or whatever..your prolly gonna get called joe..ill call my mom or grandma joe sometimes...but not in the "whats up joe" when i call them joe its more like they are tellin me to do something and im like "naw joe, ill do that later"..i remember the first time and my mom was like "did you just call me joe?" lol

but we dont really use much slang here, maybe we do and i dont realize it..i mean sure who doesnt use the word "fam"..even people i dont know i call "fam"..basically it just means im not on anybullshit..im good people, im not tryin to bang on you, or check you..its allmost interchangable with "joe" but when you use "fam" theres no negativity that can be attached to it..i guess joe is more informal but like i said ill call someone i dont know "fam" so for me it doesnt matter

one thing i notice when listening to music from atleanta and some of the south is when they say "man im geeked", to them it means they are rollin..but to us "geeked" means coked up..maybe in atl its an interchangable word but not up here

other then that..we arent a bunch of dumb fucks who cant construct sentences with out using slang..theres no need to code your words and have special meanings like "dips"...most people i know and fuck with only sell one drug, so when you call them they already know why..theres no need to comunicate you want "blows, or coke or weed"..your callin the blows man or the weed man..well now that i just wrote that.."blows" is a chicago specific term (i think) for dope..i dont think too many other palces outside of the midwest or i should say the chicagoland specific use it..

and im not saying they all only sell one product but most do..theres not to many one stop shops..the dealers specialize in one product and thats what they are known for..when you start adding coke to your weed sales its not a good mix..persoanlly i got a conscience and cant sell that shit to my friends..sure i might pickup an OZ everyow and then when i got some people that want it and i want it too but i never kept it on deck..weed isnt gonna make you pawn your shit and make you steal from your family but coke and heroin will and i cant do that to my friends..i say my friends cause thats your clientel here...we arent standing on the corners sellin to random people, that we dont know..no, we are sellin to kids ive know for 5,10,15 years and i aint tryin to get anyone strung out and i know they are adults and im not forcing them but those people are already weakminded and if you got it they are gonna keep comin back..and like i said i dont want that on my conscience

And as far as "fam" when I go out to S. OH nobody says that shit at all, I say it like you do like passin on the street to random mufuckers "whats good fam" or whatever but out there no body says that shit.

And in Pittsburgh a lot of people do sell hard/soft and weed or dope and weed. Especially the dudes movin weight usually they got bricks and pounds, I mean not all but a lot. And I wasn't sayin we say that on the phone I just mean somebody be like "Them XXX(stamp name) dips was some fire" or some shit like that as opposed to "That XXX stamp of heroin was some fire" haha wtf
 
geeked here is usually used when someone is so high they can't stop laughing regardless of the drug.

Most everyone I know calls OCs by their first number. 40s are 4s and 80s are 8s etc. If you say 30s it's automatically roxies or blues but, alot of people still call em "perc 30s" which I gave up on correcting along time ago.
 
Man I guess I have lived enough places that I have heard all those pretty much used. New York hip hop types or wannabe rapper white kids from suburbs are always saying What up Yo! You need some weed son! and shit like that. Ain't seen you in a minute I have heard in a lot of places, mostly black areas and shit, but I always used that myself, but anyway, I call soda whatever the name is of what I am drinking or want, like a Pepsi, Sprite,etc.. I don't really have an accent of any kind according to my family,but they all grew up in St.Louis, Cali, Chicago,etc..so I was always exposed to variuos accents and shit..lol. People from California think i'm from somewhere in California alot, people in the south think I'm from a northern state usually, midwestern peeps think i'm from some city nearby, etc..weird , I dunno ,I call shit by what it is,and use little slang except hella sometimes..lol..as in damn,that weed was hella strong, so I'm fucked up when I use hella..anyway.
