I disagree that going the route of methadone maintenance makes being a junkie easier. Combine an increased tolerance with random and frequent u/as and to me that seems to suggest that you better quit or eventually they will kick you out of the program. Of course there are different programs with different philosophies. Some are very treatment oriented and others simply give you the methadone and that's about it. I have been on methadone for almost 2 years and if you aren't trying to quit all other opiates completely then there is no point going on methadone, in my opinion. You aren't going to get any pleasure from it in the long run if that's why you are considering it. On the other hand if you are trying to change your life then, it can be a great opportunity to get off the illegal opiates and get a legitimate dose and still function in society. Like 8L4YN3 said, you didn't give a lot of history in your first post. And I would agree with him when he said, think twice about methadone maintenance if you are using small amounts of pills or something like that. But, in your second post you said you were using methadone, but getting it illegally, so maybe getting a stable dose legitimately might help. I think you should explore things and talk to the staff at the clinic and get more info. Try to be as honest as possible too, because if you are serious it's the only way that things are going to work. Good luck!
