Hi.

I'd just like to ask other HPPD sufferers out there a question about taking drugs post HPPD.

So basically my HPPD has been around for roughly over 1.5 years now. I still see the visual snow, and all the other visual anomalies, as well as experiencing some degree of depersonalization and derealization. I do not have anxiety/panic attacks or anything like that.

Anyhow my questions for those with HPPD..

For those of you who have continued to take drugs or have taken drugs at any point after noticing/confirming that you were suffering from HPPD.. Did the drug make your HPPD noticeably worse in the short term or long term, and has the experience of being on a particular drug been different for you post HPPD?

Personally all I can say is:

Caffeine - Tends to make the visual symptoms more noticable, but I think this diminishes somewhat with tolerance.

Alcohol - Seems to make the visual snow/static more noticable whist under the influence, not seeing any particularly significant long term differences though.

Weed - Definately makes the visual symptoms and static in particular much worse/very noticable whilst under the influence, my tolerance is now basically at 0%, so I'm not sure if that is the issue, but it almost feels as though I'm tripping when I'm on it. Mild auditory hallucinations which can result in paranoid thoughts. Swirls on the walls if focusing (can't seem to replicate this when not on weed, or certainly not as effectively). . Seems to be very hit and miss. I have had tiny amounts which resulted in negative experiences, and larger amounts which were fine (small = Joint, Large = Cone/Food. One time a large dose resulted in almost kaleidaskopic visuals over flat surfaces. It seems like the negative effects diminish after some period of time during the trip, some time past the first hour.

This is all I can really vouch for post HPPD.

Would really like to know how MDMA has been for people post HPPD.

Thanks guys.

Drugs worsen HPPD, except for most opiates and/or benzodiazepines, YMMV though.

If having HPPD is really a problem for you, stay clean. MDMA will definitely produce visual disturbances, etc.

developing a drinking habit may or may not eventually relieve symptoms...

something about the mindset of sustainable alcoholism, imo atleast :o

Well drugs certainly don't help your cause, but I have said fuck it and am prepared to live with this condition forever. It has only gotten worse since I developed it 3 years ago, and I was sober for about a year and it still didn't improve so I said fuck it. For me weed was always the worst offender when it came to increasing my hppd symptoms. Rolling also can make it tenfold worse. The only drug for me that has seemed to help is benzos. They make my visual snow almost disappear and make my surroundings feel more normal again.

How significant is the difference short term, as well as long term?

Do you mean after rolling it is much worse 24/7? or does it go back to the level it was at a short while later?

Also, what benzos in particular have you tried? Were there any side-effects? Would you consider them worth taking?

ive had hppd for quite some time now. along with major depersonalization and drealization. im actually going to see a psychiatrist about the dep/derealization next month.. its getting hard to live with

Have you ever pushed your thumb really hard into a calculator screen and notice the stress causes a rippling rainbow? If you pressed hard enough, you may have also noticed that there's a smudge left over that never really goes away.

HPPD is that smudge left on your perception.

My advice is to stop jamming your thumb into the screen, or one day you won't be able to make out the numbers.
