I felt like a freak today saying to a couple of friends chatting with that I remember masturbating and fantisizing (in some form) from an age as early six or seven years. I thought pre-pubescent masturbation wasn't uncommon, but I got a few odd looks when I mentioned it.

I am just curious, when did you begin masturbating, and if you remember when did you have your first orgasm? Also are you male or female?

A bit of an odd thread, but I am interested when males and females tend to begin masturbating (if at all).
 
well, i learned from a very young age (probably 8 or 9?) that a massager against my privates would feel really good. like really good. but i had no idea wtf masturbation was at that age or that i was having an orgasm every time i did that. i did that obsessively and on/off for a few months before i lost interest in it.

it wasn't til i was about 13 or so that i learned what masturbation was and i did it the conventional way. then my brain connected the two and i was like :o

Yeah, I had a very similar time only I discovered the water jets in the pool were the shit. I too did not know what masturbation was but I certainly got off.

I probably only did it a couple o times a month, but I was probably 6 or 7 and continued on until I discovered sexy time stuff much later.

But I still enjoy a good shower head.

If you read anything about child development, the topic comes up.

It's normal. If parents catch their child masturbating, they are advised to explain that such activities should only be done in private, since it's not polite to do so around other people, or something like that. (It's been awhile since I've read anything on child psychology.)

I consciously remember doing it in middle school...I think 7th grade. Humping a pillow. Thinking about this girl that ultimately my classmate stole from me. first few times I did not bust cuz I thought i was going to pee
I was a later pubertizer so I think 12 - in between tiny penis and average penis stage

2nded. This is mostly from Freud's theories on psychosexual development, the evolution of pleasure (not really sexual at that point because it has little to do with procreation) from mouth->anus->genitals, although the period to which you refer comes before the genital stage and is refered to as the Phalllic Stage (Freud wasn't too concerned with vagina wearers).

The idea is that fixation during any of these periods of development will lead to unhealthy behaviors (or neuroses) when pleasure is ultimately directed towards the genitals once puberty begins. Thus his theories on anal retentive and "phallic" personality types.

I don't remember how young I was when I first masturbated but I do remember it was before puberty... Freud also thought that fixation during the phallic stage was the cause of homosexuality but I think for me that had more to do with touching other people's weiners at the time.
 
I started masturbating at about age 11, but I already got erections at age 8, usually when seeing beautiful grown-up women...
