Does seroquel potentiate z drugs like ambien or other hypnotics like temazepam in any way?
Lemme put it like this. Seroquel = passed the fuck out. Seroquel + ambien/temazepam = coma. You decide your level of risk you wanna take.
I would imagine you would go into a coma induced state for many hours.
. Ive been prescribed zopiclone, temazepam and diazepam to help me sleep when taking a anti-psychotic dose of seroquel (my usual dose if im on it is 300-400mg's a day) and this is taken along with my daily doses of clonazepam which is 4-6mg's a day, really high doses of gabapentin and kinda lowish medium doses of morphine. Im prescribed clonazepam every day for anxiety and ive sometimes been prescribed seroquel to help with my bipolar disorder. I also take morphine for chronic pain and inspite of all this i still get fucking insomnia. As you can imagine i have a pretty high tolerance for benzodiazepines and i have a high one for opiates as well. Seroquel does not make me drowsy after awile of being on it but it does potentiate the sedative effects of other CNS depressants quite abit atleast until you get tolerant to the anti-histaminic effects of the seroquel and this happens alot quicker then in some then others. The combo im on could kill a person not used to those drugs or atleast fuck them up beyond repair for a long time. So it's a question of tolerance really.
I don't find that seroquel really potentiaties opiates like the anti-histamines hydrozine, diphenhydramine, doxylamine or dimenhydrinate do. Seroquel does not even potentiate the painkilling effects of morphine or other opiates or help the nausea like the old phenothiazine type anti-psychotics such as chlorpromazine (good old largactil/thorazine) or methotrimeprazine does. Im only going by personal experience here though and i found 25mg's of thorazine with morphine to not be that bad and it was definetely good for it's anti-emetic effect. Granted i would never recomend anyone take thorazine or any other anti-psychotic without seing a doctor. Especially these old ones with a fuck load of side effects.
Even though promethazine is OTC in Canada i have yet to find a fucking drug store that has it in stock so i havent tried that phenothiazine anti-histamine yet.
Basically id just say fuck seroquel for potentiating hypnotics. I found it only to potentiate the negative side effects like dry mouth in the case of opiates not to mentioning overwelming the opiate buzz. As for taking it with a sedating benzo or a Z drug your just going to add alot to the knock out effect of both. So yeah it increases none of the good effects but it does increase some bad effects.
