Is there any decent meds out there or are all the good drugs ones u get addicted to & build a tolerance?
What's the best anti-anxiety med u've tried that isn't recreational?
...So that includes benzos, opiates, alcohol etc.

First of all their is no best anti-anxiety med It changes from person to person. If your asking which shows to be most effective I don't know.benzos work fast Im not sure how they work but I use them and they come with their own problems.anti-depressants work slow and don't always for me made me depressed. I have severe anxiety have been seeing doctors for about 2
years now. Ive been on alot of benzos but their are more and also alot of anti-depressants which always make me depressed and can change brain chemistry I am depressed now I blame part of that on the meds and part on my genes.Their is no best anti-anxiety med what may work for you probably won't work for me or someone else unless your talking about a benzo which Im sure work most or all of the time.I could go on for a while about this but ill stop here.

One last thing all that's helped me with my anxiety has been benzo's.

Personally for me, I don't get relief from any SSRI's, BuSpar, hydroxyzine, or any other sort of anti-anxiety med that isn't a benzo. But that's just me.

Some SSRI's actually work for anxiety. Escitalopram (Lexapro, Cipralex) is good. I'm on it. It helps with the depression somewhat, but it does nothing for me on the anxiety part.

Like I said, there's buspirone (BuSpar), hydroxyzine (Atarax), SSRI antidepressants (citalopram, escitalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline, etc).

I had generalized anxiety disorder as well as panic disorder, which was a fucking nightmare.
SSRI's (imo) are lame for anxiety. They kind of help, but not enough. Some are better than others, such as Lexapro , Cymbalta, and perhaps Zoloft.

Benzos are the way to go hands down for anxiety disorders. Probably the cleanest of the bunch is ativan. It doesnt really mess you up too much. That being said, my favorite was Xanax XR. Its a 24 time release xanax that really really helps and you just take once a day.

Whatever you find relief with, my advice is dont just take the med and think its all ok. Use the time on the benzo to get on top of your anxiety and find alternate ways to handle it. So that when you taper off of the med (which should take as long as you need to - dont force a quick taper), you'll have the tools you need to handle your anxiety without the meds.

Hydroxyzine is the first thing that comes to my mind, even though that's already been mentioned.

There are many OTC herbal drugs available that have varying degrees of success treating anxiety. The upside is most of them are not very recreational at all.

The SSRI/SNRI antidepressant drugs are also effective (for some people, for others they have the opposite effect).

tripz_two is right, in the end, all drugs you take for anxiety issues are simply a chemical band-aid over the real problem. They are very useful (I have panic disorder and I use Ativan (lorazepam) for it with great success, I have been using Ativan for over a year now and still achieve anxiety/panic attack relief with 0.5 or 1.0mg. I do use it recreationally from time to time as well.

There are many pharmacological options available today for anxiety and panic issues, as well as non-drug options such as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). You just have to figure out what works best for you...

yea I like benzos myself. my favourite being valium but ive only tried a few so far.

this is the whole point of my thread to find out what other options there are.

drs dont like prescribing benzos & if they do the prescribe dosages that dont do anything. so it works alright untill they run out & ya have to wait for the next script.

It really depends on the doctor and, naturally, the specifics of the patient and the condition being treated for. It not uncommon for SSRI/SNRI antidepressants to be prescribed alongside low doses benzos for anxiety disorder.

Your best bet is to speak with your doctor about it. If you don't like how your doctor is treating you and/or your treatment isn't working, you do have the option of going to another doctor.

I've been rx'd in the past for anxiety related insomnia and generalized anxiety disorder:
Xanax
Ambien
Zoloft
Trazadone
Mirtazipine
Clonazepam
Temazepam

as far as treating anxiety goes: xanax and clonazepam were the best with clonazepam being the best of those two. I got no relief from the various SSRI's and anti-depressants, however the mirtazipine and trazadone did occasionally help me sleep but the morning after effects varied from negligible to horrible

Its sort of up to you to decide what is and isn't recreational. Obviously a lot of people abuse benzos but that doesn't mean for you its the wrong choice to treat anxiety, simply because other people abuse it.

Idk of anything off the top of my head that can help anxiety but not build a tolerance over time, save for maybe eating a really healthy diet and staying hydrated. I would normally add exercise to that list but in some sense your cardio-system builds a "tolerance" to exercise just not in a bad way.

A regiment of healthy diet, exercise, and medecine to be taken as needed seems like your best bet. Its up to you and your doctor to discuss which medicine suits your case best.

^Truth. I couldn't have said it better myself :) People will abuse anything. Just read all the posts about people taking Benadryl for an effect.

great. So the only drugs that will treat my anxiety is will inevetably make my anxiety worse.

not sure how you drew this conclusion..

its not as if you take one dose of benzos and you are fucked for life being addicted and uber tolerant with even worse anxiety..

If you let yourself abuse your Rx then you could end up as above. If you take only the Rx'd dosage, only as needed, and supplement this with other methods for dealing with stress and anxiety (healthy diet, exercise, meditation, herbal tea, etc..) then there's no reason why your anxiety should get worse.

If at some point you do feel like you've become addicted to the benzos, you can talk to your doctor and many people on here about how to deal with it. There are quite a few good threads on here about tapering off of benzos. You aren't the first person to go through this. As mention above, Pregablin is an option; I know of one active member here who has used it to taper from benzos successfully and I believe is currently still using it.

I feel that you need to have a more positive outlook on your situation. I'm not a psychiatrist, but it seems to me that if you consitently take the mindset that nothing can help your anxiety then you'll find that indeed your anxiety will get worse. As I've stated, its going to take more than drugs to help you. There's no miracle cure that just makes your anxiety go away with no ill effects. You have to do all you can to help yourself which includes taking your rx'd medication, actively talking with your doctor / psychiatrist about alternative methods and natural ways to supplement the medication to relive stress and anxiety during the day. Its not easy, but its doable. (I do it.)

Indeed.

The majority of people prescribed benzos don't end up abusing them. Remember that the majority of people prescribed benzos aren't on Bluelight ;)

Sounds strange to me that nobody here seems to know oxazepam. Maybe it's not sold in the USA. It's quite strong, without making you too numb (if you don't take too much, of course). As far as I'm concerned, it's the "best" for me. Doses go from 10mg to 50mg. I got 50mg pills but take them by half.

Its sold in the U.S. under the name Serax but I think he was asking for non addicting drugs. Oxazepam is my least favorite benzo and I've tried nearly 15 of them.
