I don't know if this happens with everybody but I'm sure it's fairly common, but whenever i take opiates, no matter what kind, my voice gets lower and kindof raspy. Like lil wayne style but not as much lol. Does this happen with most people and why does it?

Happens to me too. Maybe it relaxes the vocal chords? I dunno....but I like it because if I'm high enough for my voice to be affected I'm usually rollin' pretty hard. =D

Your vocal cords relax when you're relaxed. Relxed vocal cords cause you to have a deeper voice. I notice even more prominently when on gaba drugs.

I would also look at the opioid-induced relaxation of the lower-esophageal sphincter that prevents acid from refluxing up as a possible culprit. I got the same effect when I used a lot of or combinations of many drugs that have this effect on the LES... especially benzos, caffeine, amphetamines, opioids and to a lesser extent, alcohol.

Small amounts of acid refluxing up and irritating your pharynx can cause changes in your voice (especially hoarseness/raspiness and lower pitch). If you're smoking on top of this it will compound the irritation and subsequent vocal changes as well.

To see if this is the cause, trying taking antacids prior to using/experiencing these effects and see if it makes a difference. They certainly did for me (namely proton pump inhibitors such as pantoprazole(protonix) or OTC omeprazole(prilosec) but even H1 antagonists such as ranitidine(zantac) or cimetidine(tagamet) - which may also potentiate depending on what you're using - but even calcium supplements such as tums will work).
