I'm sure there used to be one of these.. can't find it though.

I love sandwiches! Best food ever imo, definitely best convenience food :D
I'm getting a bit bored of my current combinations though, so was wondering what everyone else loves.. I'm veggie so not going to go for meaty ones, but feel free to post em for the benefit of others!

Some of my current faves:

Mature cheddar and coleslaw with chives on multigrain or oaty bread.. delish

Mashed banana and honey on farmhouse white, discovered this one by accident! Also goes well with peanut butter (crunchy)

Love a good ploughmans or mature cheese n pickle too :) no sweet pickle in the ploughmans though, tastes wrong with lettuce imo..

Also had a pretty epic veggie sausage, hash brown and ketchup sandwich made my my boyfriend a little while ago.. %)

So.. what are your faves? Any top tips or unusual combinations? :D

Just had a coupla hammy sammies as it happens. Nowt too exciting but very tasty all the same. Sandwiches are great <3

Some favourites - many mentioned before but worth repeating - fishcake/fish finger, BLT (natch,) cheese 'n' chives (mushed up with mayo,) cheese and jam, cheese and pickle, cheese and tomato, sausage and marmalade, sausage without marmalade, chips and for a true carb-meltodown meat pie. Yum <3

PS: Yes, I do like cheese it seems.

I also love cheese. All sorts. Nomnomnom :D

Sausage and marmalade is an unusual one, wonder if veggie sausages would work? Going to give that one a blast soon, I do like a good marmalade :)

Edit: meat pie sandwich 8o I'm impressed! The mr is sat here imagining cheese pasty sandwiches now..

Peanut butter on wholemeal! :)

Not a big lover of sarnies. Now if Felix was here he'd be right on this thread 8) his culinary offerings instead of a home cooked dinner include grated cheese (scottish mature chedder) mayo n' spring onions or egg mayo. Bless him if I'm not in the mood for cooking that, takeaway or diner out is what I'm offered :D

If pushed tuna n' sweetcorn salad is what I'd go for :\

Edit - oh aye ,yeh canna beat a chip buttie on buttered Scottish plain breed now that is tasty :-)

Not into sarnies! Am shocked, Kate ;)

I think partly why I love them so much is the bread aspect, can't beat a good loaf. White farmhouse is my sneaky fave, but no bakeries near me so making do with Co-Op oaty sliced bread. Not bad, but not ideal.. maybe time to invest in a breadmaker!

I also love toasties, paninis, toast (including cheese-on-).. Maybe I should have made this a bread-based food item appreciation thread. Could really go for some cheese on toast with Hendersons relish right now. mmm :D

One of the best brekkies I can recall from recent years was when I splashed out (fnarr) on a cheese, tomato and olive ciabatta, some nice tomatoes and some seriously good quality (and eye-wateringly expensive) bacon. God's own sarnie <3

Can't believe I forgot bacon and tomato in me first post 8o

Sandwich fact: A sandwich is made from two separate slices of bread whereas a butty is a single slice of folded bread. True story :)

I love a bacon, Lettuce, tomato, mayo and Avacado on toasted wholegrain bread. Yummy If I can find a good sourdough even better. If I have it warm I like a nice slice of Monterey Jack on it. Mmmmm

Ooh, you just reminded me that I haven't made one of my favourite concoctions for quite some time!. 8o

I used to make an amazing sandwich. The bread isn't really important, t'is all about the filling. Spread a generous amount of houmous on both slices, sprinkle with celery seeds, sliced red pepper, iceberg lettuce, and thin slices of avocado. T'is the best thing ever. I reckon I need to stock up on supplies after work tomorrow. :)

Generally good ol' tuna and sweetcorn hit the spot though.

I sometimes have peanut butter and onion sandwiches, yes i'm a weirdo =D

A favourite of mine is to get a baguette slice down the middle and scoop out most of the bread inside. Fill the gaps with hummus, top with chicken breast, tomato, mozzarella and fresh basil. Season then nom <3

Toasties I feel surpass sarnies :D

but yeh bacon - best comedown medicine with a cuppa eva <3

Since we're gonna start posting recipes and whatnot, here's another old favourite. Not strictly a sandwich, but is bread related and tastier than you'd imagine. :)

GARLIC TOAST WITH CREAMY AVOCADO

Ingredients:

*3 tablespoons of olive oil
*1 large garlic clove
*1 medium French stick (cut in half)
*1 ripe avocado
*1 red chili (sliced finely)
*juice of half a lime
*salt/pepper

Directions:

1. Heat the oven to 220 degrees
2. Mix the oil and garlic together in a bowl and brush/drizzle over the top of the French stick
3. Place it on a baking tray and bake for 6-8 mins
4. Meanwhile, cut the avocado in half and scoop the flesh into a bowl
5. Mash in the chili, lime juice, salt/pepper with a fork until fairly smooth
6. Once the French stick is lightly toasted remove from the oven and spread the paste over the top.

(T'is better if the paste has been chilling in the fridge for a bit before hand).

TG, that sounds lush! :D

Shammy, I've had hummus and feta before, proper good :) not experimented with other cheeses though..

Avocado being mentioned a lot, tis a fine food, shall have to try out some combinations :)

Keep em coming peeps!

TG - sounds very similar to mine

OP - banana n honey are top notch..

ok ok one I had that was kick ass was umm.. duck pate with plum sauce n red onion (raw) n rocket on hot french bread.. that was goood..

I make sandwidches up as I go along.. il start listin em here from now xP

ohh a super simple if your running out of food is tinned tomatoes on brown bread.. really healthy and suprisingly tastey for what it is

I make a tinned tomato on toast thing, it's surprisingly tasty! Involves a tin of tomatoes, oregano, chilli powder, olive oil and some grated cheese stirred in if I have any. Need a really thick slice of bread, pref brown, and some Hendersons relish (or equivalent). Yum :D

^God, I thought this was just one of my mums inventions. We were so poor when I was growing up, we often had tinned tomatoes on toast. I can't even handle the thought of it now. :!

Haha I thought it was my mum's invention! Must be a mum thing. With enough chilli, olive oil n cheese it can be quite tasty, honest..
