Why do cannabinoids need to be emulsified for IV use?

Why can't they just be injected straight in their oil form or whatever it is.

THC has been administered intravenously in doses up to 5 mg. Because THC is poorly soluble in water, it must be mixed with human albumin or other solubilizing agents. Marijuana and Cannabinoid Research (2006), page 238 http://www.scribd.com/doc/14452038/Marijuana-and-Cannabinoid-Research-2006

Now, our own blood contains albumin. Is it not in high enough concentrations?

This guy IVed Marinol without any sort of prep and it seemed to work.

And while Marinol is chemically modified THC, it is an oil (or whatever; Marinol capsules contain dronabinol oil and sesame seed oil.)

I was once brave/dumb/foolhardy enough to slam 50 mg of Marinol (delta-9-THC) (This was back when I still played with needles.) I had also been slamming Dilaudid as well. That was the highest I've been in my life except for maybe the first time I smoked (I was able to enjoy that high without passing out.) It came on in about 10 min it seemed like, I think I may have made it an hour before passing out. I wouldn't recommend it cause it's suspended in sesame oil (It would have been fun to get a lab test of my cholesterol afterwards.) I think the experiment was kind of a waste cause all I can remember is loading up the syringe (just squirted five 10 mg pills into the back of the syringe) and being gone for a short while.

As far as natural cannabinoids I bet you could do the same thing after a simple extract to get honey oil, which I'm sure is just as bad for you. But hey, if we really gave a shit about that I don't think any of us would want to try such crazy things.

You risk fat embolisms jamming huge amounts of water-insolubles into your bloodstream. There's no reason you can't inject oils and stuff, but it's up there on my list of Super Risky Behaviors along with injecting talc. Don't be suprised if someone tries it and ends up having a stroke...

And injecting 50mg of THC? Wow, talk about a waste.

As far as natural cannbinoids go, there's a "marijuana injection syndrome" or something that's akin to septic shock known in the medical literature - so people have definitely tried and failed before.

There's one report that used that term -- it coined the term. The "syndrome" is nothing more than a hypothesis. The report is based on one individual who had to go to the hospital for treatment. The report stated that said individual injected marijuana previously with nothing but "positive psychological effects." The report said the sickness the individual experienced may have only been a result of the cotton he used to filter the preparation. Perhaps he used a very large amount of cotton and got a really bad case of cotton fever. Perhaps the marijuana he used had been handled by a bunch of people with unclean hands and it was just a bacterial infection.

Your answer is in the first post. Cannabinoids as a class are all insoluble in water. Just because the blood already contains albumin doesn't mean it will immediately solubilize any oil-based compounds that enter it.

dont just try shooting things that cannot be dissolved.

Even injected air can kill cos it will block the bloodstream to reach the cells. Oil would have similar blocking effect.
