it will be a problem when the allegations outnumber the super bowl rings ;)

how dare you guys tarnish the good name of Big Ben? hasn't he done enough already? he is now humble in interviews and praises God

hehehe, as I've said in the NCAA thread, I now just leave my moral standard out the door when watching professional athletes. there really is just no point. although Big Ben was charged with a heinous crime, let's all remember that there are murderers and *gasp* drug users, and shiestiness in general all around the realm of sport

however, if you want to continue this pedantic battle, Big Ben has as many official rape charges as I do - ZERO

I don't know what to think of Big Ben.

There are overzealous DA's who want that high profile case so badly that they will stoop to any level to make an individual look guilty even if he isn't. There are also women who look at high profile athletes as cash machines and will stoop to any level to get an out of court settlement, including offering up a night of rough sex and then charging the dude with rape the next morning (Kobe!).

I'm not saying Ben is innocent, but with prior "incidents" there is a gigantic target on his back, saying "pretend he raped you". So until anything is proven against him, I'll just assume that he is innocent and not wish death upon him the way I do Michael Vick. If he is guilty, then I hope he gets caught one day and prison raped till his rectum tears open and he bleeds out of his ass till he dies.

So I withhold judgment in his particular case, on the off chance that he is indeed innocent.

it's a difficult situation for me. I've always heard he was a bit of an ass (he's an Ohio guy, obvi). I don't look up to any professional athlete/musician/celeb so I'm not in moral shambles like maybe some of you are, if you're up in arms

fwiw - Big Ben did just get engaged to his fiance right before the playoffs. so hopefully, the only raeping he will continue to do is in the playoffs, continually

I'm not up in arms over Ben in particular-- more like the general character of NFL athletes-- mostly because I get the impression that people like Ben would be in prison orange by now if they weren't good at an ultimately meaningless and inessential set of skills.

Also, it just goes to show you what a great shield success is. Do you think that if Mike Vick had brought Atlanta a couple of SB wins, that he's have even done any time, never mind getting traded-- I kinda doubt it.

great points all-around. we're known here in the U.S. for letting our celebs get away with too much, and without starting a shitstorm, I do think race played a role in Vick's quick crime, punishment, and sentencing

also, it helps that you can more than likely pay women off. you can't pay dogs off :\

im not saying that celebrity status doesnt get you special treatment, but having millions of dollars for a crew of lawyers helps too.

in this case, I'd say the millions went to work paying the victims off :(

It didn't help for Plaxico. Michael Vick is the Hitler of dogs, Big Ben rapes a couple of women, and both get pretty much nothing in the way of punishment for their crimes.

On the other hand, Plaxico brings a firearm registered to him legally in the state of Florida over to New York, comes about an inch away from turning himself into a woman, and goes to jail for 4 years. How fucked up is that?

If a guy next to me shot himself in the leg in a night club, in a city where it was illegal, you can be damn sure I'd want there to be consequences to him breaking the law and endangering me.

...but I'm not a giants fan. Falcons ought to pick him up though.

I believe it would have been legal had the firearm been registered in NY instead of just FL. It was more of an oversight than anything else. I don't own a gun, but if I did I might have assumed that I could take it with me to NY from Florida and everything would still be good. I wouldn't hold my gun in my fucking sweatpants with the barrel pointing right at my dick, however.

But, on the other hand, doesn't getting shot in the leg and having to go to the ER worried about whether or not you are going to die constitute consequences?

people think NYC is a bastion of progressive thought, but it's actually got some strict bullshit laws (I know first hand), or it starts a chain reaction of implementing strict bullshit laws

Plax is attractive, and he started his career out with the black and yellow, and some Steelers fans are interested in bringing him back in (I say no, with the emergence of three solid Pitt WRs this yeah, my team has other issues), but I think that you guys and football fans in general need to remind yourselves that Plax really is a couple runs lower than another WR problem child aka Randy Moss, Ochocinco, and TO)

Plax has off-field drama, and he lost the AFC Championship game for my Steelers during Big Ben's rookie year due to his lazy route running

his unpolished routes and mental confusion, combined with his off-the-field issues, makes him more trouble than he's worth. your teams are better off without him
