Very Intense flashbacks with full body response, while 100% sober for months why now?

I'll preface this by saying I havn't used psychedelics in 10 months and I have been 100% clean from all mind/body/mood altering substances for 4 months and plan not to ever use or drink again. I swore I wouldn't come back here since bluelight is a dangerous place for my addiction but I can't ask anywhere else so I'll be sure to stay in this thread only.

It isn't uncommon for me to have subtle visual hallucinations, I do every few days but I only notice it in darkness if I'm really paying attention. The only time I ever had a really intense flashback that was physical and highly visual was after taking a high dose of seroquel a couple weeks after a long 2c-c/2c-e binge.

Well last night I was chilling on my computer and I started feeling tingly then I noticed what looked like heat waves coming off my hands, intense colored visuals, shit moving, an actual moderate body high with my heart racing at 120-130bpm, some perspiration, and I broke out in a rash.

It feels wrong that I was high while I'm making a serious effort to get sober.

Anyway, he only thing I consumed out of the ordinary was 50mg benadryl and half a full throttle energy drink. I know diphenhydramine can be psychoactive in high doses, but 50mg is nothing, I used to take around 300-400mg a day when using opiates and never tripped out at all. I've also consumed way more energy drinks in the past and never had any problems. Today I had one energy drink and started tripping out at work, I didn't think I would be able to drive home. Last night visuals were so intense I couldn't see my keyboard at all or differentiate text.

The only thing I can think of is I have been going through abrupt changes, just got out of treatment and moved into a halfway house and just started a new job, but the energy drinks seem to trigger something since that is the only common denominator between the 3 times it happened. This last time I thought I was going to throw up, and the rash is weird. This last time at work I got that weird tooth sensation you get from 2c-x and my hearing was all distorted, I also almost puked. The body is capable of some strange shit.

I know the easy answer is to not take energy drinks or antihistamines, but I still want know WHY they would trigger it since it's bothering me. Thanks for the help.

cut out the energy drinks- they seem to be the trigger, also they're terrible for your heart. panic attack in a can is just pointless, you're way better with the occasional mild cup of coca tea when you need to get things done.

just dont drink energy drinks-even you know thats the common trigger

^^Exactly.....energy drinks were making me a wired mess at work, causing anxiety and other issues not suited for the work environment. When I was off of opiates, and was only taking entactogens/stims my psychedelic "side" was beyond active. Full on wall melting/patterns...when I am tripping on a regular basis I can keep it under control...my body is strange!

Yeah no more energy drinks for me. Now I'm trying to figure out why I get skin rashes, back when I used a ton of mephedrone 8-10 months ago I broke out in a massive rash all over my body- I literally watched my skin get rough then huge black spots fille up my pores and I watched them grow and get big in a matter of minutes- watching black spots form on your skin is terifying and I was so amped up I picked at them and I have scars all over my body. It recurred to a lesser extent when I used amphetamines or cannabinoids to a much lesser extent- rough patches with bumps forming. I may have been hallucinating from a flash back as well and not noticed it.

It didn't occur really in sobriety except last month when a few very tiny and hardly noticeable spots formed after drinking a ton of espresso- I could have had a flashback and not noticed. Yesterday it happened on a larger scale when I had the flashback after the energy drink- noticeable spots I saw forming but not as intense and black/red (looked like blood/blackheads filled my pores)- just the blackhead like stuff with rough skin and a few tiny red spots.

So no more energy drinks for me ever and I'll try to avoid any significant form of caffeine. Now I just want to kow what the hell is happening to my skin and why. I gotta see a dermatologist, doing research it kinda looks like chickenpox or shingles but shingles usually occurs in one area of the body, if it's viral then the flashbacks/stims might be triggering some nerve shit making it recur. Fuck this sucks.

fuck this shit doesnt stop, now even going to bed triggers it. several times a day. i cant sleep because i close my eyes and see intense visuals, i have trails, my hands are mostly green and purple outlines with blue and orange mixed in, tons of little dots moving around like fractals.

at least now i am able to chill a bit and i dont physically feel high, maybe because im so exhausted. in the light it isnt too bad, i am probably feeling it a little less at work in the light.

the weird thing is i am all jumpy and if i hear a noise i get startled easily.

on the skin i saw a dermatologist and got part of the rash biopsied before it faded, im not even worried about that so much and ive accepted it might happen and i dont give a fuck so it isnt happening anymore. this shit is all mental and psychosomatic

if you know any way to cope please help

What Does a Flashback Look Like?
Flashbacks vary from person to person but, according to Mind.org.uk, symptoms typically include:

Sleeping problems;
Sense of smell – often bizarre and out of context with the present;
Difficulty with affection;
Vague images drifting in and out of consciousness;
Irritability, agitation, or restlessness;
Physical symptoms such as headaches, breathlessness, palpitations, chest pains and other panic indicators;
Dreams or nightmares; and
Physical sensations that do not seem to make sense. For example, feeling like you cannot reach the pedals of the car when driving.

yep, i had a crazy migraine yesterday, this is all trauma shit

if you haven't had flashbacks, they suck and i wish i never shot up 2c-c 100 times and ate a bunch of 2c-e and smoked a bunch of 5-meo-dmt

quit while you're ahead, this shit is hitting me a year later

Sounds fucking horrible. I haven't really got much advice but just wanted to offer support.

I can remember years ago going through a very turbulent time and deciding to stay sober for a bit. I was hit by having panic attacks almost every day. I think these were partly down to stress and I wouldn't be suprised if it is a contributory factor in your case. I guess doing exercise and fun healthy stuff is going to help.

dude you need some exercise, a cleansing diet, lots of water, sleep and you'll be fine. All of those weight equal importance

Did you use LSD at all? I had similar symptoms for months after what turned out to be a massive LSD dose.8o

My symptoms were almost identical to yours, minus the skin problems you mentioned.

It did not manifest immediately after the trip, it took a couple weeks and I slowly fell apart into a psychedelic mess. I was having hallucinations(wake up in the middle of the night and the room would spin changing colors, i would get sick dizzy) , tingling numbness through my extremities, headaches, extreme irritability, chest pains, jaw jitters and clenching, attention was zero, vibrations and buzzing through my body..... the list goes on and on with more neurological symptoms. I was seriously convinced I had Lymes or some sort of brain disorder because of the intensity.

It took months to fully get back to my life. The biggest thing that held me back during this time was dwelling on my symptoms and what was happening to me. I think lot of what I went through was from stress on my system after such intense trip and also the feelings that surrounded it. I stopped smoking weed during this time and tried to take care of myself as best as I could.

Fortunately I returned to NORMAL with time. The less you think about IT, and the more you think about what you have to DO, the sooner you will start feeling better i think.

I feel like my body re-adjusted, but it never would have happened if I wasn't able to keep my mind off of my problems. Thinking about the problems increases stress and in turn dramatically worsens the symptoms.

I know how hard it is(sleep was nearly impossible durring this time) but you must try to get as much rest as possible. I hope you are able to start getting through this. :)

Lack of sleep can be a major trigger. I was stuck in a flashback, then my doc gave me trazadone and tegretol. Both a very good drugs and can solve the problem at it's source; the 5-ht2a receptor (trazadone blocks this,) and overactive neurons (tegretol slows the influx of sodium ions, thereby keeping overactive neurons at bay.) You ought to talk to a psych doc about these medications.

I wish you well.

I know the easy answer is to not take energy drinks or antihistamines.

Since the drug -- er, "supplement" -- cocktail that is an energy drink doesn't "alter" your body, mind, or mood in any way, neither does benadryl, and you've abstained from all substances which might, I can't imagine what might have caused this reaction. (Ha.)

Congrats on your sobriety, bro. Really.

Unfortunately, after a few months of being off opiates and benzos I experienced the same thing. My HPPD continually gets worse and I'm overly paranoid constantly. I've reverted back to childhood behaviors of checking under the bed and being startled when I hear a noise.

My guess is that a mild flashback was occurring, you got anxious about it, thus releasing adrenaline, increasing your heart-rate and exacerbating the effects. I read a story about a young guy who used acid just once, and developed an adrenaline imbalance from anxiety. He literally thought he was dieing and disappearing for most of the day. Also, I have taken Benadryl for years due to my allergies. In the last two months, roughly 70% of the times I take it, itchy red hives appear on my chest and neck. In the future try calming yourself down and practice some breathing exercises.

I heard someone here in BL say that diphenhydramine abuse could cause HPPD. Maybe low doses combined with previous abuse of psychedelics could trigger something.
*Still don't know why would benadryl give you HPPD...
