been taken heaps of valium. not helping me sleep. (somtimes have insomnia, & alcohol actually makes it worse.)
valium actually gives me energy.
im smoking alot of cigarettes which isnt helping.
otc sleeping meds have worked good but after a few days they arnt as strong.
otherwise i've had good results from promethazine.

had a choice out of Zyprexa & Mirtazepine.
I took the Zyprexa (olanzepine)

just had 15mg... hopefully soon i'll feel tired

should i have chose the mirtazepine?

which is more sedating?

what are ya opinions on these 2 meds. if u have tried them

feel free t list and commenton any other stuff u've tried for insomnia
also get a bit og anxiety but atleast i got valiums. Unforunetely i need quit a dose to actually feel anything. (im naturally tolerant/resistant to all tablets)

i gained 20kg on mirtazepine in 1 month... olanzepine didn't help me at all... hypnotic benzos are better... or carisprodol or meprobamate mixed with a sedative anti-histamine works well... diazepam may not be the right benzo for u.... ciggs don't help, they do the opposite... barbs are great but rarely Rxed due to side effects and OD risk

try to rotate what you take.
use OTC anti-histamines for a night or two, benzos like temazepam and clonazepam another night or two, mirtazipine for a night ro two.

I've never tried olanzipine but have used mirtaziepine. To me, its very strong, but the next mornings can be rough.

An anti-psychotic like Olanzipine should knock you out, as they are pretty sedating but anti-psychotics like Seroquel are more sedating. The most sedating drugs are the barbiturates but you won't get prescriptions for them unless you are incredibly lucky. I mean, INCREDIBLY lucky. I'm talking the fast acting ones like Secobarbital.

Most sedating meds would probably be secobarbital, pentobarbital, sodium thiopental, amobarbital or some other powerful barbiturate.

Methaqualone is high up on the list aswell, as are the ultra-potent synthetic opioids like carfentanil, lofentanil, remifentanil, sufentanil, etc etc. and the semi-synthetic opiate, etorphine and it's analogues.

The old school typical antipsychotics were also extremely sedating - haloperidol (Haldol) and chlorpromazine (Thorazine). The newer atypical antipsychotics like olanzapine (Zyprexa) and quetiapine (Seroquel) are highly sedative.

We can't count out some highly hypnotic benzodiazepines aswell, benzos like triazolam or brotizolam.

And who knows what other research chemicals they got out there man.

Haha ya if anyone finds any methaqualone or seconal or nembutal it's probably gonna be in some granny med cabinet.

Out of seroquel, zyprexa and mirtazapine i found mirtazapine to be the most sedating by far and to keep me the sleep the longest. But it works better for sedating in low doses 15mg's or under then high doses. Just lock the fridge door before you take it :D

You find Mirtazepine more sedating than Seroquel? Well now, that's a first! Seroquel knocks me out fast but then again I haven't taken Remeron in awhile. I do have a script for it that I have yet to get filled.

I think he was looking for ones that were actually still prescribed these days. I don't think they will prescribe opiates for insomnia and regardless how awesome of a doctor you've got I don't think you'll be getting Methaqualone in the near future. lol

In that case, then triazolam, temazepam, or some kind of antipsychotic would probably be the most sedative drugs that can still be prescribed today.

I've never tried triazolam, but from what I've read it sounds like super alprazolam. Sounds like it be very effective in inducing sleep in the short term or as needed. Anti-psychotics as mentioned can be very sedating, some more than others. Barbiturates, especially at higher doses would be very sedating, but they are very dangerous especially at higher doses, and not prescribed anymore for insomnia, well Seconal does still exsist, but you'd have to jump through many hoops to get a prescription for that. And barbiturates really shouldn't be used regularly, barb addiction is one of the most hellish from my understanding.

I think triazolam has the most knock out power of the benzodiazepines.

I Agree, but I've heard that brotizolam is even harder according to people who've tried both.

But then again, a 1993 British study found temazepam to be the most sedating benzo. Other studies have corroborated it, so...

But I guess there is a difference between 'most sedative' and 'knock out power'.

Dude, barbs at "higher doses" would kill a human. Barbs are extremely sedating at therapeutic doses.

Yes, well I when I said higher doses I meant hypnotic doses. Remember barbiturates were once used for anxiety, and in doses quite a bit lower than the doses used for sleep. I didn't mean doses much higher than hypnotic doses when I said "higher" doses. I know barbiturates have a very narrow theraputic index, and it wouldn't take much to kill a person.

It’s not the most sedating but levomepromazine at larger doses tends to be very sedating for most people. Though, I wouldn’t suggest it for anyone unless they have some serious mental health condition.

I am not saying that is not true but have you ever tried levomepromazine? I don’t know that much of any of these medicines (anti-psychotics) but I know that people i know can eat high doses of seroquel and being able to function after that but a large dose of levomepromazine drops everyone I know. If someone has experience from both levomepromazine and quetiapine please share it with us?

I took once 100mg of levomepromazine and will never take it again. The only reason I think it’s more sedating is that I’ve seen lots of people in a mental hospitals and the aggressive ones were given levomepromazine because of its very strong sedative properties. This information I got like 5-10 years ago, so I don’t know how accurate it’s nowadays. I guess it’s all about the dosage.
