Psychonaut Audiophiles?

I think that Hi-Fidelity audio goes hand-in-hand with psychedelics and dissociatives and really any drug that makes you feel good. In fact I'm either blowing most of my money on drugs or on headphones and digital audio players. Anyone else out there an audiophile? And to be an audiophile you don't have to blow tremendous amounts of cash on headphones and stuff, but just have to have a passion for music. So is anyone else out there passionate about music with their drug use? And if you do happen to have high quality equipment what do you have? I just find the clarity and soundstaging of nice headphones can really immerse you in a different world while on shrooms and other drugs. But really any music regardless of source is just amazing on psychedelics.

Absolutely, 100% !!

I am a guitar player, and I always spend much time on LSD playing with settings on my amp and fx looking for new sounds and stuff like that.

Have had some fantastic results! Love it.

Oh and you were interested in equipment... well I don't really use headphones :D But I have a Orange all tube Rockerverb amp with a few different Boss and Electro Harmonix pedals and 3 different guitars. Sometimes I can play 1 note on the guitar and just be blown away by how fucking cool it sounds!

definitely. i love fiddling around with the different timbres on my korg while tripping

i also have a pair of lower end audiophile headphones (aka, they're great, but they're no $400 seinheisers) which are necessary to capture the enormous range of nuance and sound in a studio recording that will become very apparent during a psychedelic experience

that, and there isn't an mp3 on my ipod lower than vbr v0 bitrate quality haha

hell ya man im all about the music. been trying my hand at production the last few months. heres a dubstep song i made last week. http://www.mediafire.com/?pdlza4f7v86tjrg

Equiptment:
KRK RP6G2 Monitors
Sennheiser 280pro headphones
Propellerhead Reason
M-Audio Oxygen Midi Keyboard

Therse nothing like blasting some dubstep and taking a few rips of nitrous while tripping. Too bad ive had to cutback on my use because the Sheriff that lives under me (in an extremely thin walled apt complex none-the-less) has been taking shit from his wife for me acting sketchy (LOL)

I don't like to make electronic music while tripping b/c although I'm pretty good in the studio sober, I get lost in the knobs, interfaces, buttons, and lights when on psychs. I do play drums though and banging out some tribal rhythms or funky beats while floating through la-la land is always a good time.

I really much prefer listening to music on psychs. I find music sounds most alien on shrooms, best on THC or MDMA, manifests visually as CEV's very well on 4-aco-dipt, 2c-e, and LSD, and motivates movement on 2cb and MDMA.

Headphones are a must. I have Sony V700DJ but only use those while at home. If I'm taking music outside of the house, I have run-of-the-mill Koss/Pioneer over-the-ear headphones. I also like listening to music in the studio where I have Wharfedale Active Diamond 8.1 + an inexpensive subwoofer from a mid-90's 3M 5.1 surround system.

of course... i have tooooo much to even talk about so just one thing to mention...

My new fav as of late are my <3Grado SR80i's.<3 Can't get enough of them - they are for certain audiophile quality and go for $100. 8o Made in the USA too - a real plus!

Definately a must! I've got a set of klipsch image s4's and a fiio e5 headphone amp, it's bliss sober but it only gets better on psycs. Only 320kbps tracks as well.

On MDMA music is amazing at raves and festivals but I can't wait to try it with psycs in the summer :d

Nice... I always thought drug use (esp psychs) go hand in hand with music. I have some klipsch image S4s im using tonight when im tripping on shrooms. I would be using my Westone UM2s but they are being repaired at westone labs, and after that my second choice would be the silver bullets but I fucked up the wire by trying to pull it up while i was stepping on it (totally unaware i was stepping on it)

Oh and for my source I have the cowon s9 because the sq of the wolfson (i think?) sound chip inside and the powerful internal amp and esp the EQ cause it is VERY adjustable and features sound enhancements such as BBE and Mach3Bass which actually enhance the music without coloring it too much or messing up the sound. And since the cowon J3 just came out the S9 should be alot cheaper now, I think around 150 or something and I highly recommend it. btw the glass (its touchscreen) is like un-fucking-scratchable.

fuck oh yeah and all my favs are in FLAC (NIN, Tool, APC) and my second favs are in mp3 320kb and the rest is just regular mp3 quality.

Yeah i really like my music, ALOT, and in high fidelity. i'm such a nerd lol.

Being an audiophile and a drug user seems to go hand and hand.

I try have most of my music as possible in FLAC, but due to the genres of music i listen to a lot have to settle for 320-256kbps.

I rock some sennheiser HD280s which are absolutely beautiful with sober ears, and that much more divine while in an altered state. Not sure why it took me so long to go for a good solid set of cans. In long run it is extremely economical considering the life of these puppies with each part being able to be replaced.

Do you find the 280's a bit intense when tripping? They just isolate you so much that i cant really relax. I prefer my bose triport headphones for that (lower quality but more relaxing sound, and more comfortable.

the increase in quality of anything above vbr v0 has been proven to be imperceptible by the human ear. FLAC really only has utility as a backup resource. just sayin', you might be using a lot more space than you need to on your hard drive yo

yea but i like the feeling of having the highest of quality it makes me feel good. i think. i dont know im really scattered right now. blah

music has always guided my trips. i have a 4 channel mixer setup with 2 1200's, a computer with some rudimentary dj software, and an sp-404 sampler, not to mention an extremely satisfying vinyl collection. a few hits of some fine LSD, perhaps a bump or two of K and i get lost in it all for hours. a favorite pastime...

Tripping has actually helped me to find the optimal audio setup. I have been experimenting with different combinations of equipment, speaker placement etc while tripping. And the result is a very good sounding setup. I think your perception is clearer, less filtered, while tripping which allows you to judge these things better. Obviously not while tripping very hard, but after the peak, or at lower doses.
