Jurnista just came out here when we already had Hydromorph Contin capsules with time releases little balls in them. What's the point of adding/marketing the exact same drug under another name ? I think the mechanism of release of Jurnista must be even worse than Hydro Contins.

Seems easier to turn it into instant release hydromorphone too (the Contins).

Well I'm in the U.S. , but here I'm quite sure they got rid of Hydro Contin all together. The only thing available is Jurnista. Possibly they will fade out Hydro Contin in Canada as well?

Your LUCKY to have Hydro Contin , Jurnista is next to pointless to try to abuse. I'm sure if it were bigger around here someone could figure something out. But it's the same time release mechanism as Concerta. Basically I had to get a knife to chop the Jurnista in pieces. I had the 64mg pills. Even then snorting was impossible and IV was out of the question altogether. It's like a weird plastic paste. I ate a whole one and shat the pill out whole, unchanged. :/

I do have a tolerance, I broke three 64mg tablets up and chopped them into as many pieces as possible. I ate two broken tablets right away, pushing a decent dose of 128mg of hydromorphone in me. Mind you its oral and the time release wasn't really "broken" even then. I ate 192mg over the course of several hours and was feel quite nice to be honest. Like really nice haha. But thats about it.

PureLife I dig your avatar. Alk3 kicks ass!

That being said, drug companies often market the same drug under different names. The patent must have expired for Hydromorph Contin so another company jumped on making another type of the same thing. This or maybe they will phase out Hydromorph Contins in Canada, in replacement for the harder to abuse Jurnista's. Let's hope it's not the latter.

id have to agree that jurnista is just the result of greedy pharmaceutical company move. however i think there's hope that both will remain on the market. IIRC, vyvanse was made by the same company that makes adderall, after adderall's patent expired and both are still prescribed.

It's partly because of pressure from regulatory authorities (The U.S. FDA had legit concerns about dose-dumping with the high dose Hydromorph Contin being consumed with alcohol, benzos, etc) and because drug companies gain a lot of their profits when the drug in question is still under patent protection and they can charge insanely high prices for it.

It is hard to say what they'll do in Canada, but if what they do in the U.S. is any indication, they will probably switch to the harder to abuse formula (read: the current situation in the United States with the new OxyContin formulation).

However, OxyContin had a much bigger pop culture/media/urban legend/moral panic type deal status in the U.S. which is probably why the switch happened so quickly, less to do with drug companies trying to retain a high profit margin, but that's another thread, I personally think Perdue is an evil company that was entirely aware that they were selling a very addictive opiate in high dose units and were fine with making a lot of their money off addicts.

/rant over.

You still have the regular instant release hydromorphone in Canada I'm pretty sure, though, so just use those :)

I dont think Perdue knew how much of abuse their Oxys would get at the begining but once the craziness started, they were laughing & counting their money all the way to the bank. They were probably saying to themselves, everyone loves our pain med, from house mom to street junkie & we are selling a legal drug that has everyone addicted & making us a killing.

Have you looked into this method at all? I found it very effective for concerta.

The pill you excreted unchanged is common... the drug is released slowly through a tiny hole in one end but the pill shell itself just passes through you. I think that's creepy, but as far as drug delivery and abuse-resistance go, you have to admit its pretty ingenious.

Indeed, you gotta give props to the pharm companies, and then again you gotta give props to the drug community, where there's a will...there's a way.

Purdue certainly was aware of the addictiveness of a high dose oxycodone formulation, it certainly is an effective pain medicine as well. It's a double-edge sword that most pharm companies don't mind one bit, in the end, they're a business and a business has to make money. Had there been no pressure from the public and regulatory authorities, I doubt there would have been any formulation change, not just in OxyContin, but in Concerta and all the hydromorphone/morphine abuse-resistant formulations.

ive got 9 Invega pills left from a trial script my dr was passing out to almost all his patients on anti psyches but i take zyprexa.. any way i know the Jurnista tabs use the OROS system but the shape of them is different than the OROS pills on Concerta and Invega.. <- those 2 look EXACTLY the same and all you need to do to take the writing off is lick your finger and rub and you could sell a 6mg Invega as a 18mg Concerta and a 3mg Ivega for a 36mg Concerta!!.. not saying i would do such a thing. Cuz if i was i would have done it a long time ago, but i don't know why im saying all this lol. it just popped in my head when i started thinking of the OROS system and the usual cylinder shape they have besides on Jurnista.

/ mindless rambling

they use the L–OROS technology as their release mechanism.

it can be viewed here, fig 5.
