I give my handicap cousin liquid valium thru her g tube when I babysit her. Is liquid valium common or no? Just curious I have never tried it. I think my soon to be ex husband did once, tho. She was staying the night with us and I found him passed out standing up leaned over the kitchen sink. He hadn't been drinking or anything.

Yes it's quite common, usually designed for toddlers, but very useful for tapering too. Here in my country, three drops equal one milligram. Don't know if it's the same in other countries (Roche brand).

Oh I see. Well I give my cousin 2cc's of valium about 4 times a day. I never knew you could go thru withdraws from that and sometimes I would skip doses on her. I have learned a lot here.

Its common but isn't prescribed as much as most oral benzodiazepines. Yes, you can go through withdrawals if you stop taking it so make sure not to skip too many of your cousins doses. After a couple days without it she may not feel too good, or even worse. The severity really depends on how long she has been taking it.

Valium is one of the more forgiving benzos when it comes to skipping doses, if your cousin was on say, liquid lorazepam (Ativan) for oral use, skipping a dose would have been a lot worse.

Valium (diazepam) is very long acting and has even longer-acting active metabolites so even one day after the dose there are still active metabolites in your cousin's system. Which metabolites exist and how long they do depends on a lot of different factors.

So, do not skip your cousin's doses without speaking to her doctor. I just wanted to let you know that information, fun fact sort of stuff. Listen to K'd-OUT, he is the resident benzo expert here :)

That's some really good info you guys. Thanks.

Gosh I feel bad now for skipping her valium sometimes. She is 20 and has been on it all her life. She has to take it to relax the muscles in her arms and legs.

I have learned so much here. I use to work 40 hours a week with her. Now its just part time.

You work with your disabled cousin? What condition does she have?

She was born with Cerebral Palsy. She has a twin brother that is perfectly normal. Her condition is really bad. And sad.

I use to work nights with her. She lives at home with her parents (my aunt and uncle) and basically I would care for her all night and get her ready for school. Now I have a 1 yr old son so I don't have time to keep her full time now, but I do still do it part time on the weekends.
