Hello.
We have an opening spot for a new moderator for Advanced Drug discussion and will be taking applications by PM. Please briefly answer the following questions:

What kind of 'drug-knowledge' do you bring to the table (eg, chemical, pharmacological, neural, etc.) (this also gives you some space to give a brief description of your relevant biography, if you'd like)?

What, in your opinion, is the most pressing key problem in this forum?

What do you suggest be done to address such and why?

What key characteristics do you possess which you believe will aid you in acting effectively as a moderator? Why will these characteristics prove key in ADD?

What other suggestions do you have for improving the forum?

Please PM your application to all of the mods of the forum, and the relevant admin and smod (nuke, vektor, ebola?, and ilegal (phrozen)) by February 1st.

Thanks,
The ADD Staff

I will offer IF no one with more extensive knowledge of medicinal chemistry (hammilton, etc) or neuropsychopharmacology decides to take the role. My knowledge of O-Chem is more function than theoretical, but I have taken all the "required" courses. For what its worth, I recently received my MD and am in residency to hopefully become a DO as well (anesthesiology). Still, a PhD in psychopharmacology would be know much better suited. As you are well-aware, some physicians are, well, not that bright (the bar has been set pretty low).

My emphasis is practical harm-reduction and medicinal chemistry exploration, with a grounding in credible, peer-reviewed references. My knowledge of neuropsychopharmacology exceeds that of medicinal chemistry, particularly in a clinical setting.

Again, I am offering this is only if someone with more comprehensive fails to offer. I am a busy man, but I can make time IF needed. I wish we still had a Health Q&A forum, for that I would be better qualified. The only advantage is my previous role as a moderator, so in that sense, I know how this "works".

Unfortunately this forum has recently devolved into a state that is now less "Advanced" than the original OD forum that Phreex and I used to moderate.

Vecktor and I would like to do something about it, but it's hard without removing 95% of the current content. We'd like to keep the discussion as open as possible as well as as intelligent as possible... it's a hard thing to balance.

As an only occasional poster, I have to say keeping it more "advanced" would be a good thing... I'm sure there's many threads that could be moved on very quickly to other forums.

It seems like it might be helpful to have a mod who is in a different timezone to the others - I guess Nuke and ebola are in the US? Not sure about vektor.

Then we could have swift action on closing non relevant threads..?

I , Kim Jong Il 4, am throwing my hat into the ring so to say ;

I'm studying pharmacology at U of T and writing an exam tomorrow. i've acquired some more textbooks in addition to my required reading and subscribed to a journal. this is my first year of pharmacology so i don't know much detail yet but have learned disproportionate amounts since being prescribed dexedrine.

I can't claim to know anything about the forum's problems , but if you elect me as your Moderator , I'll certainly address them. I am committed to learning the intricacies of pharmacology thoroughly and somewhat rapidly due to exams and my personal love for pharmaceuticals.

the forum might benefit from my affiliation with u of t it's pharmacology department is apparently pretty good (i haven't formed an opinion yet; hearsay)
I am willing to relay questions from you gents to pharmacology professor, professor emeritus, or even physiology or other departments. I like to talk to them I will ask them pretty much anything you want , some are idiots though , really.
but most are good and have resources that might help you

lol. I don't mean to offend you, but except lab equipment- which doesn't loan very well- a few PhD's have very little to offer. I'm sure there are very few idiots, but when it comes to psychoactive drugs, very few will have the breadth and depth of knowledge found here. I can't recall a single answerable question that wasn't accurately resolved here very rapidly. There are, of course, some questions which cannot be answered either because they're based on inaccurate understanding, or research just hasn't been done, so no one knows the answer- but even then well informed speculation is always available!

I don't know what U of T refers to- we have more than one state with a letter-T name, and expanded to major cities, the number of possible U of T's grows rapidly- but I doubt any would want to be said to be "affiliated" with this site.

A new mod would be an excellent time to redefine ADD standards for sure. Good luck to everyone applying and to the future of the forum.

p.s. U of T = University of Toronto perhaps? Canadians forget there are more than 7 uni's :)

I think you guys are doing a pretty good job, as someone who has yet to gain the education needed to discuss pharmacology at an 'advanced' level, but has an interest in going to university for pharmacology in the next few years. I wouldn't want to see this forum become something I can't understand all the time (at present it is a good mix of things I can understand/incorporate, and things that blow my mind but one day hope to understand). I think what is needed is more provocation of advanced discussion by people, and more discouragement of very basic, completely subjective experiences such as we see in some of the big RC threads (have sister threads in BDD for that kind of discussion).

U of T is almost certainly University of Toronto, and KimJong, you are where I hope to be in 2.5 years time! (First I need to get my grade 12 Chem, Bio, and Calc, then get into U of T for Life Sciences, and then get into the Pharmacology program after first year) If you wouldn't mind, could you drop me a PM, perhaps detailing what marks you personally got accepted both to U of T Life Sci and then Pharmacology with? And anything else you think I should know/think about/be doing now? I would PM you, but unfortunately you are a greenlighter. Hope to see you around the forum man!
