What are your thoughts on this? I was reading a thread and was part in a little discussion about it and I thought I'd post this. Here is my quote from the other thread:

The thing I hate the most about raves, are kids that can't control their high, freaking out, running everywheres. I mean I was a kid once too (I still sorta am, I'm 19), and I did ecstasy at raves but never did I run around freaking out and starting shit. I was always the kid who respected everybody and even had pretty good conversations with adults, because I was mature. Kids like me, I don't mind. I'm 19, but if I see a 14 year old doing E, sure I'd talk to them and probably have a good time, and respect them, but when kids start trying to run it and ruin it for everyone, I get pretty pissed off.

it really depends on the kid.. i started to go to raves when i was 15, but that was 1993 and it was a whole different scene back then compared to today.. some kids can handle their shit some cant.. jsut like some adults.. it all depends on the person in my opinion

Good way to put it, thanks for your input.

Definitely this. Here in australia we have u18 festivals/raves which are ages 13-17 and you always see kids who look really young munching on dummies. Most of them are OK but occasionally you get the kid that loses it. Also you can get in if youre 11 or 12 (they dont really check ages)

Its more of a personal thing. I know very mature 15 y.olds and very childish 20 year olds...

You shouldn't let it bother you.

Everyone was young at some point, and however "mature" we like to regard ourselves, we have all done silly things.

Clearly these kids are tasting freedom and exploring themselves through altered states of perception. where they haven't learnt typical adult behaviour yet, this is exemplified when rolling. essentially though, we shouldn't dismiss anyone.

A 'rave' pught to be a place where one is free to be extroverted, and at least these kids aren't boozed up getting into street brawls, but enjoying themselves and their altered headstates.

We can still learn from these people. It's only because immature behaviour exists, that mature behaviour exists. without the odd idiot, acting like a fool, we wouldn't know what well-balanced and well-mannered behaviour is.

Ultimately you can only find pity for them, as they serve to make you look better.
You can learn as much about how to act as how NOT to act.

It doesn't matter what stage of maturity someone's at, as long as underneath it they are fundamentally good. which i believe 99% of people are.
Let's forgive one another's misgivings cause not everyone is blessed with the same intelligence and social skills.

A bit off topic, but just a quick story hah, one night I was playing a show at some rented out hall, right in the middle of my set some kid tried to jump another kid selling E, pissed me right off. I told the security that I wanted him gone and the kid replies with "He's the one selling E, he should be arrested", I got quite a laugh out of it haha. The immature kids like the one I just talked about are the kids that I don't want at raves. (I mean, the kid is raving and he tries to take a kids' beans and then doesn't even accept what he did was wrong and tried to get him arrested, has anyone ever taught him PLUR? XD)

i absolutely hate it. I hate going to a rave and seeing 3/4 people under 16-17. They think theyre so cool with all their beads when they're just calling out for attention. It's fine if you like to have a good time, but when you're running around rubbing everyone and being a loud mouth thinking you're cool, it can be very annoying to see and watch.

I see all these kids frying their brains out not knowing the adverse effects of MDMA and I have seen many go down shitty roads with depression, memory problems, and so on before theyre even 16 or 17. Ive known kids to attempt suicide from abuse.

I started going to raves when I was 14, but I didn't try ecstasy until I was 16, and I had been eating it at home for a while before I started eating it at raves. I'd say in most cases, young teens kind of gross me out at raves, but there are exceptions. I know that's harsh, but I prefer 18+ parties.

I certainly wasn't prancing around in my underwear back then and by the time I was rolling at raves, while I'm sure I was still naive, I wasn't one of the ones in a sweaty pile in some dark corner. I had a friend who at 17 started going home with 40 year old men and going on drug binges and sleep with them to get a ride home.

So... it really depends on the individual, but I'd say in a lot of cases, a young teen just isn't prepared to handle some of the situations that could arise at a rave.

i've complained about this on bl before haha, it doesn't effect me, but it obviously effects the rave scene, with all these young kids, it attracts more police.
not that police really effect me either at raves, unless i'm carrying around drugs, but i usually take them before i could ever carry them around.
i just worry about my friends who are.
i mean i started going to raves when i was 15, so i can't say they shouldn't be there at that young a age.

i act immature all the time, being able to act like a child at a rave should be part of the freedom within them, i guess as long as you're not being obnoxious.

this is what happens 70% of the time... at seattle raves at least.
there's always some 14 year old chicks stumbling around getting into fights.
these days kids are different i guess, some don't know what they're getting into, taking unknown pills and shit and getting scared and calling an ambulance or some shit, and drinking themselves into oblivion.
there are plenty of other young kids who are cool though.

I have plenty of underage friends at raves (I'm only 18 myself), I see no problem with it. They never cause problems or anything like that even if they sometimes are super high; they just have a ton of fun! Ime it's the collegebros, their girlfriends, etc. who come to raves to only get fucked up who start shit and mess things up. I do wish they would wear more clothes sometimes though; as Pirate (older member of our scene) once said to me "I wouldn't love them any less if they wore more clothes!"

I think no one under 18 should be allowed to attend a rave. Over and over again you hear/see/witness kids being dumbasses causing trouble, not knowing their limit, oding, etc. And I know there are a lot of young teens who don't do these things, but a majority of them go and start going to raves just to do drugs, and not for the right reasons. They are ones ruining the scene and giving it a bad reputation. Bottom line, you should be a fan of the music if you go to these events, if you are going just to do drugs or can't go to a rave sober, you need to rethink your priorities. Not only that but teens are still developing, not a good time to mess with your brain chemistry when you drugs at a young age.

i personally like 18+ raves more then 16+. It seems there is always less problems and a better crowd of people.
On the aspect of clothing, I don't get why some of you people bag on girls dressing skimpy?!!?
Let them dress the way they want. who cares!

I don't think 15-year-old girls need to be lying to their parents so they can go dress in the skankiest lingerie they can find (to the person who says we shouldn't care... did you ever stop to think about how dangerous this is for them? Falling prey to a creepy methhead who wants easy poon and is just following the "easy teenpoon" signs), do a handfull of pills they got from some sketchy fuck they don't know etc. That goes for boys too I guess... but without the skanky lingerie part.

Aside from that, it's not fair to everyone over the age of 18. No one wants to dance with some half-naked kid (male or female) only to find out they're super young and dangerous jailbait. That's awkward and scary. No one wants to live their life behind bars because of some horney 15-year-old brat who doesn't know the risk they possess.

Or these kids going home with older people just because they feel... I dunno, cooler xD only to wind up at some druglord's house tied to his couch.

Point is. It's dangerous, and I don't believe they're old enough to handle it yet. Their bodies haven't even finished their growth cycle. Best not destroy their greatest aspects (AKA, their brains/minds) before they've even had a chance to truly begin their lives.

This is an amazing post.
So fucking true.

its a catch 22 situation... i believe in freedom to go to a partys but at the same time if you forbid them to go the more they will want to go then. The rave scene when i first started to go might not have been what it was if they only allowed kids of a certain age to go... come to think" raves" today sound more like a club type setting which it basically is . The term "rave" shouldnt be used anymore because rave is dead(or at least i think that the last true raves died in 2000).....i like to educate my younger friends on certain drugs and situations and what not..at least the have a better chance on not fucking things up if there are informed a little

Totally agree with this part. Kids shouldn't be going behind their parents' backs nor should they be wandering around in lingerie.

Err, what? You're telling me that you can't tell they're minors and because you might dance with a minor on accident that they shouldn't be allowed there? That's a bit ridiculous to me.

If you're rolling face at a rave and there are sexy lookin girls under 18 rolling too and dancing on you and or touching you, it can definitely impair your judgment.
Not saying this has ever happened to me, because it hasnt.
But i can see how it's very possible.

You misread what I wrote..... no shit its bad for little girls under dressing, i'm not some creep who is into underage girls. I was talking about older people.
I'm all for 18+ raves.

This right here is what happens when kids are around. I believe all festivals should 18 ^.

A festival gone bad

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euMokfThlOw

Sad isn't it. This was a small electronic music festival in our city's downtown

Haaahahah I was about to go to that one. I was so pissed 'cause my sis' friend took too long getting his paycheck and what not to get us over there so we ended up just staying home and partying there. It ended up being that that happened so I wasn't as disappointed anymore. Idiots. Now they're probably going to put a price on it next time SMH :p
