Does anyone else find it unusual that the market for RC methaqualone analogues is so small? I know methylmethaqualone is around from time to time, but I hear it's not that fun and can be quite dangerous. What other (preferably distant) analogues might be feasible as recreational drugs? What structural features make up a good [...]qualone molecule?

Some ideas are attached...

Well the same can be asked about barbiturates, they are also considered obsolete at the very least in terms of development. I am not talking about research on receptor ligands or anything like that though.
You say they are called dangerous, well as I understand it ludes / quinazolinones are one of the first generations of downers after simply smacking someone over the head with a blunt object or perhaps chloral hydrate... after that came barbiturates, after that benzodiazepines and I guess that right now downer aspects are split up between more selective drugs for example aimed on insomnia but with less side effects.
Why not quinazolinones or barbiturates? Well, what about overdose risks from respiratory / general CNS depression increased even when combined with other depressants?

To sum up what I find with a search engine these structural variations are already used successfully in some combination in different quinazolinones:

pos. 1

- nothing (normally)
- amino
pos. 2

- methyl (normally)
- ethyl
- fluoromethyl

pos. 3

- phenyl?
- o-methylphenyl (normally for methaqualone)
- o-bromophenyl
- o-chlorophenyl
- o,o-dichlorophenyl
- o,p-dimethylphenyl
- o-methoxy-p-nitrophenyl
- 2,3-dihydroxypropyl

perhaps not so imaginative but what about an o,o-dibromophenyl or p-methylphenyl for starters?

i found etaqualone to be similar to methaqualone, but not quite as good as real ludes(doesn't have all of the distinct euphoria of methaqualone but has the sedative/hypnotic and intoxicating effects).

it has pro-sexual, euphoric, sedative/relaxant, and intoxicant effects that make it more similar to methaqualone than most other GABAergics(benzos, alcohol, or most barbs), and i rate it recreationaly with most fast acting barbiturates with the exception of secobarbital which is a bit better/more euphoric and my second favorite GABAergic after methaqualone.

etaqualone is the only methaqualone analogue i've tried, and it produces a quaalude-like high but with just a bit less of the jolly euphoria of real ludes. however unlike similar drugs like placidyl and most barbiturates, etaqualone does have the increase in sexual arousal(but not like methaqualone) and "clean" intoxication(pretty similar to methaqualone and strong barbs) you'd be looking for.

imo the best GABAergic downers are(so you can see where etaqualone ranks):

1. methaqualone(the best and most euphoric)
2. secobarbital(most euphoric barb with a good intoxication)
3. etaqualone(close but not real ludes and not as euphoric as secobarbital)
4. pentobarbital, amobarbital(other potent barbs)
5. placidyl(similar to barbs but less euphoric and more sedating)

*so, i'd say etaqualone is the best methaqualone analogue.

You say they are called dangerous, well as I understand it ludes / quinazolinones are one of the first generations of downers after simply smacking someone over the head with a blunt object or perhaps chloral hydrate... after that came barbiturates

barbiturates came before quinazolinones for use in medical practice as sedatives, hypnotics, and anti-anxiety agents. methaqualone was discovered in the early 20th century in India while looking for a malaria treatment. barbiturates were discovered in the late 1800s and were being commonly used by the time methaqualone was just discovered, and it wasn't untill the mid 20th century methaqualone appeared for use as a sedative/hypnotic.

methaqualone was actually put on the market because problems with the safety of barbiturates were quickly on the rise, so methaqualone was introduced as a safer non-addictive drug just as effective as barbiturates.

as time passed methqualone was being commonly perscribed as a barbiturate alternative and soon users discovered methaqualone's recreational effects. after a while quaaludes became one of the most abused drugs and peaked in popularity in the 1970s especially in disco clubs(why they were nicknamed "disco biscuits"). quaaludes also were known for having pro-sexual effects such as increased arousal and sexual desire.

quaaludes were pretty much the first "ecstacy" type drug as it was a popular club and party drug.

by the time the controlled substance act was developed methqualone quickly was placed in schedule 2 after continued reports of abuse, dependence, and overdose as well as it's illicit sale on the street and popularity as a recreational drug. soon methqualone became considered to cause more problems than good and it was placed in schedule 1.

now authentic quaaludes in the U.S. are more uncommon, although they do exist due to diversion of legitamite methaqualone from countries that still use it(South Africa, Canada, among others). fake quaaludes usually contain benzodiazepines, usually diazepam at doses anywhere from 30-100mg.

funny how a drug introduced as a safer alternative to one drug turned out to have even more abuse potential.

Thanks for the info guys. StaySedated, not trying to source at all, but did you get the etaqualone online or from an acquaintance?

I suppose it makes a lot of sense that the high is similar given that the molecules are almost the same. The hunt begins!

StaySedated, not trying to source at all, but did you get the etaqualone online or from an acquaintance?

i got it from a friend who bought it as methaqualone. after dosing i realized it was similar but different(ie. not methaqualone), so we had some of it tested and it turned out to be etaqualone.

my friend was let down, but i became interested and tried more to make comparisons with methaqualone.

i know etaqualone is readily available from online vendors though.

Thanks for correcting me.

I got etaqualone too but it is not active at the doses it's supposed to be and therefore marked suspect and unfit for use. It was sent free of charge though for this same reason so make of that what you like.
I guess it's waiting for some sort of possible analysis heck I don't know.

So you guys don't think methylmethaqualone is any good? I had some methaqualone crystals a cpl years ago and found a sweet spot at about 300mg. It def wigged me out, whacked me out, luded me out so I was in la la land talking non sense when I used more than that along with some sleeping pills. But the straight up methaq was good. I have access to some methylmethaqualone now I was gonna get along with a free ammt o phenazepam (that didn't impress me). I've never tried methylmethaqualone though but at the right dose methaquaalone def was great for sleeping pill for me.

I generally stay away from analogues as I don't find them intersting (although I would love to experiment with some opiate analogues).
