It'll help but not 100%.

If he gives you enough of them it'll certainly help a bit (though I wouldn't call it a breeze). You want to make sure not to get addicted to benzos while you're coming off of opiates too though. Good luck!

yeah i was just going to use it for the first part first few days

do you think its the most powerful realistic thing my dr could have perscribed?

What are you withdrawing from? And how much? Not trying to pry, but with these answers you can get more accurate advice.

Benzos certainly help, as does loperamide.

I went through my first heroin withdrawal about three-quarters of the way from Singapore to Baltimore, at a Super 8 motel in Romulus, Detroit (airport). Five days of indescribably terrible hell on a bed of sweat, tears and diarrhea.

Of course I'd been using Southeast Asian number 4 heroin, best in the world, every day for a year and a half. I'd always heard withdrawal was terrible, but before I went through it I was like, "Yeah, right, sure, uh-huh...". Told myself before I went to the airport that if I got uncomfortable on the plane I'd simply eat some of the 10mg valium I got from my doctor (I had about 60 of them with me) and maybe have some stiff drinks too. I was sure I'd be fine.

Long, repulsive story short: the benzos did absolutely nothing to help. I remember eating them like candy, taking 60mg at once. Might as well have been Pez I was eating. And my idea about the alcohol? I couldn't even hold down a small glass of water thanks to the rapidly progressing withdrawal symptoms. By the time I made it to the Super 8 room in Detroit I'd eaten almost all of my valium to no fucking avail whatsoever.

So no, they didn't work for me. And neither did the clonidine I'd received at an airport emergency clinic. All thatI had was time, alone in the dark on a motel bed, going through agony I'd never even come close to imagining existed. But it all depends; there are many factors that determine your withdrawal. How good the stuff is. Your age, general health, gender, mental state...so many variables. Good luck however things turn out.

Shit man, no need to scare the gal! Thats quite a horror story though - sounds like the making of a good trip report.

Perhaps she isn't as deep in as you were, in which case benzos could be enough to get through it. Or at least help.

They say that Benzo's Clonidine and some other drugs can help, but they really don't IMO.

It also depends on the drug you were using. If it was a short acting drug like Fentenyl, Dilaudid or heroin, and you were using daily for a while. You are going to go through the worst experience of your life. That is why they have the "quick" detox where they put you under and pump you with Narcan so you are asleep when you go through the withdrawals. I don't believe this works though, because it take more then 24 hours to make your opiate receptor numbers return to normal.

Today is 3 weeks exactly since I started my suoxone detox. It was terrible the first week and then I went to the ER and they gave me an rx for ativan (lorazepam) and its helped SO much. Absolutely! It chills me out, takes away the anxiety, makes me sleep at night (which is a god send after a week of no sleep)

I definitely think benzo's help with withdrawals. I'm finally getting over my withdrawals too, which is so fantastic. The last 3 weeks have sucked badly!

If I went to the DR for benzos for my heroin WD, will I be labled as a heroin addict? I don't want to get into a motor cycle accident in the future, ending up breaking a leg and needing norcos but wont' have them prescribed to me because I was a past opiate addict. Any know whats up with that? I will be going to a small clinic.

It took 1 mg of xanaxx 4 times daily along with 10 7.5/500 mg hydrocodone for four years and the last 6 months of that 4 years i was tkaing o20mg oxycontin on top of it. Anyways got committed to hospital and bastards took me off everything cold turkedy! I was inhell for 2 weeks. Now months later im back home and things are normal ! I got my xanaxx back and a fw hydros I think Im gna find that dr. who put me through that hell of going cold turkey and chain him up in my basement for a week and break out the pliars and blowtorch and return the favor he did to me!

<snip>

I'd say your better off going to a Suboxone doctor and getting some. It beats any benzo by 1000 times as far as withdrawal relief. You can go to www.suboxone.com to find a doctor, but make sure they will accept insurance or else they charge a high price for an appointment, like $250-$500. There are many here that will take you insurance and they will also write you a 90 day script which the doctors that charge won't because they make more money having you come back month after month.

Good luck!

The US passed a law that says that any patient that goes to a doctor for legitimate pain must be prescribed something to control that pain or else they are breaking the law. If your doctor just took you off of them, get some advice from an attorney and you will either get all the scripts you want or they will severely penalize the doctor. This applies even if you are a current addict or have had a history of it. It just like going to the doctor and saying I have a lump in my throat and I think it may be cancer and then they refuse to treat you. It is against the physicians oath to not treat people for ANY reason.

Most people do not know about this law and it is the main reason prescription drug use has gone up in the last decade since they passed the law.

Basically if you are in legitimate pain or have any other condition that might need a medication and your doctor will not treat you, you can sue them BIG time. Just ask any attorney experienced in medical law.

Benzos didnt do much for me either during withdrawal. I was withdrawing from 60-80mg of oc a day for a year. I never take any benzos and was taking a whole bar of xanax what is that 2mg i think? Anyways didnt make me tired or ease anything. What helped me was about 12 lopermide pills. Least it stopped the shits and the pounding headache. RLS and insomnia persisted for another 3 or 4 days though.

What was your dose and length of addiction?

Some people on here do swear by benzos for withdrawal though.

This is extremely misinformed. Doctors are not legally obligated to pass out narcotics to anyone who whines of pain; that's just absurd.

If this is an actual "law" as you claim, show it in writing please.
