1) How effective is Strattera with ADHD and focus ? I can't focus on one thing for more than 10-15min plus i always do several things at the same time (work, watch tv, etc).

2) Does Strattera have side effects like most anti-depresants ? Does it make it dificult to have an erection ?

strattera is a serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor(SNRI), and the cause of ADD/ADHD is related to dopamine.

strattera doesn't even affect the neurotransmitter that causes attention disorders. i once asked my doc about it and he said he doesn't perscribe it because it does not help and has bad side effects. he said it is a terrible drug ment to have no abuse potential but it doesn't treat the disorder.

i know people who were on it, and they said they would rather not be on any med instead of being on strattera.

amphetamines(Dexedrine, Adderall, Vyvanse, Desoxyn) or methylphenidate(Ritalin, Concerta) are the meds that work well for attention disorders. if you get perscribed them, DO NOT start abusing them to get high. trust me, these drugs are extremely psychologicaly addictive and rapidly build tolerance when misused but useful and effective when used correctly.

I'm going to see my doctor to get some help with my ADD/ADHD (since 2 weeks ago i had no idea there are meds for ADD/ADHD.

Year ago i was depressed and put on lexapro and it had such a great effect. I had eaten just 2/3 of my prescription and the efect was amazing i felt better from day one. Since then i have been using NO drugs. Now i feel i need to get my ADHD fixed, since i can't get shit done, i always have tons of ideas running through my head and i find myself sometimes having a mental chit-chat with myself. lool

Desoxyn is methamphetamine, not amphetamine. Much more powerful than the others you listed.

What, you didn't triple-check wikipedia this time? Aw, you're usually so good at it!

Strattera...
- it let me sit still (the only pro)

- did NOT improve my concentration

- Even when my bladder felt full, I had difficulty urinating

Then day 3 when the med increased to the full dosage things went very wrong.
- I couldn't sleep while taking it
- I started having severe muscle spasms which were actually seizures. They didn't stop for for another 3 years and I only took strattera for 13 or 14 days.

- Some time in the next 10 days I hallucinated I was in a car accident...while I was driving! I'd checked left and right, started to pull out to make a right on a street with no cars and when I looked left again, there were headlights approaching incredibly fast just yards from my car. I felt the impact from a car hitting my driver's side door dead on, heard glass break, metal scream, heard/felt my leg/arm and ribs shatter, knew I was dead, everything went black and I found myself alive, whole, and still driving a car just in time to slam on the breaks at a stop sign down the road. This was absolutely terrifying.

After I stopped taking Strattera I was told that more than half of the college students who were given samples of it (like I was) to treat Adult ADD or Adult ADHD stopped taking the medication in the 1st 2 weeks because of the side effects.

Be very careful with this medication.

On the bright side, I know one adult male who benefited from Strattera. He has inattentive-type ADHD and has been taking this medication for years.

I'd recommend you look into modafinil (Provigil - good for focus/concentration), or maybe Wellbutrin (a dopamine-reuptake inhibitor, good for depression, motivation and ADHD). You don't really sound like you need a straight amphetamine med though.

1st off, taking lexapro for the first time would'nt cause you to feel amaizing, on the contrary it would take at least at least the time for your dosage to finally plateau. Not to say it didn't happen, it just seems unlikely since the half life is 27-32 hours. I doubt its truly adhd or any attention deficit disorder, sounds like if lexapro helped, you should get back on that, and you could have acute schizophrenia. Personally getting regimented on shit like that...well is shitty in the long run

Feeling amazing straight away on an SSRI sometimes happens in people with bipolar disorder - some psychiatrists won't prescribe SSRIs at all to people with bipolar disorder because they can precipitate mania. It's definitely something which needs further investigation before any presumption of ADHD is made.

My doctor said the same, that lexapro should take effect after few days to a week. To be honest first day i took it i felt super relaxed, second day i was finaly "happy". It didn't help me get my work done, but it changed my mood 180 degrees. I took only 20 pills / 20 days and i stopped, cos i was feeling myself again.

Now i just need something to keep me focused, to be albe to concentrate on one task, do it and finish it even if it takes me 4h to do it. Now after like 30-45 min i must do something else or i go "crazy"

Any suggestions ?

I don't think a drug is the solution. All ADD drugs stimulant work at first, then they stop after a while of everyday usage for me at least.

Drug wise: Adderall XR was my favorite. Dexedrine ER is more chill and fun. Ritalin is all comedown not much help at all.

modafinil isn't approved for the treatment of ADHD, even though it would likely be a good medication without the the addiction potential that comes with amphetamines.

wellbutrin is weak at inhibiting the reuptake of dopamine and has the risk of lowering seizure threshold, and other DNRIs like methylphenidate would work much better for ADHD. wellbutrin is perscribed for depression, which is a different story.

i'm on Vyvanse(60mg.), and it is working better for me than Adderall Xr, Dexedrine, and Ritalin/Concerta.

Vyvanse is very smooth unlike Adderall Xr's "up and down" effect and its way better than methylphenidate formulations(jittery anxiety followed by a shitty comedown).

i've yet to try Desoxyn(dextromethamphetamine hcl) and i hear it works very well. unfortunately its rarely perscribed and asking your doc about it could raise some red flags.

1) Yeah, I suggested those two because of the addiction potential and tolerance issues of amphetamines. And while yes, Wellbutrin's inhibition of dopamine re-uptake is relatively weak, it's inhibition of dopamine reuptake isn't thought to be it's major mechanism of action, and it can be a good alternative for some people to amphetamines for ADHD (I just thought of it's anti-depressant effects a bonus).

2) I was given modafinil for focus/concentration issues, which this person said they were having trouble with...("Now i just need something to keep me focused, to be albe to concentrate on one task, do it and finish it even if it takes me 4h to do it"). Worked pretty well actually, and worst case, it's super easy to order online.

Perhaps this person will only benefit from amphetamines, but personally I always feel why not try less addictive options first.
