Warning: Sniffer dogs at london tube stations

my 2 cents on the points raised by you and ismene: the police do so pathetically at anything but catching minor drug offenders that it does seem like they view this as an acheivement. they get most of their info from tip offs so don't really even work anything out themselves. its lazy and easy and keeps arrest rates high.

You're spot on chinup. Jancrow seems to think hassling "Petty small time drug users" is something the police don't want to do. On the contrary the police view this as a great and valuable acheivement which they'll always quote when trying to impress the public.

I read one Chief constable saying he didn't mind breaking down drug users doors "even if we don't find any drugs because it lets the drug user know we are the boss". That means he's perfectly happy for the taxpayer to foot the bill for the door simply because he wants to let small-time drug users know who the boss is.

^lol, as a teen the cops once found me with a 10bag of weed and told me ''dont fuck with the big boys'' LOL cos i had ran and stashed the weed in a hedge, an OAP handed it in to them after they reprimanded me. i was never charged just given that epic speach.

p.s. - somebody make a map with where sniffer dogs can be seen on London network!!

The main trouble with your statements about the police is that you assume that they all think exactly the same thing and behave in exactly the same way. There's quite a lot of variation in opinion at all levels. This is why sometimes someone will get caught with drugs and let off and why someone else will get the book thrown at them. I've met some dicks at ground level who like to act the big man over a ten bag of weed (or even a joint I was caught with once)... and I've met some who turn a blind eye to it. The same holds true further up the ranks.

For example, your Chief Constable. Have you got a source for that quote? It'd be interesting - and perhaps pertinent - to know if he was talking about an actual 'small-time drug user' - or someone who steals or robs to fund a habit. I suspect that it might be the latter. In which case, great use of my tax money. I don't care what drugs people take but if they go on the rob to buy them they're having a negative impact on other people's lives and I'd like that stopped cheers.

Here's another Chief Constable, calling for an end to prohibition:

Chief Constable of North Wales, advocates an end to UK drug policy based on "prohibition"

And another, two months ago arguing that they should NOT be 'hassling "Petty small time drug users":

One of Britain's most senior police officers (and chairman of the ACPO Drugs Committee) has said youngsters caught carrying personal amounts of drugs such as cannabis should "not be criminalised", in order to allow more resources to be dedicated to tackling high-level dealers.

And a former Chief Constable:

Former Chief Constable - The war on drugs is a waste of time

Deputy chief constable of Nottinghamshire :

'what I am suggesting is that we need to explore, as part of a treatment programme, the prescribing of heroin to addicts in order to take them out of the illegal market'

lol on an infamous estate near me my friend was delighted with the new uPVC door the council had provided her and about 500 other homes. A few months later her delight turned to dismay as the council came back and changed it for a plain wooden one. Apparently the uPVC ones were proving too difficult for the police to kick down lol. But who payed the bill for this monumental fuck up? Good old taxpayer.

I wouldn't worry about sniffer dogs to much. They're trained to detect real drugs. Not much chance these days!

ha ha. *nods* on a more serious note my encounters with the polive have been very good upto date.

twice in bars ive been caught, once in a cubicle doing a line with a mate by a policeman off duty. he banged on the door, i opened. he asked me what i had on me, i showed him one wrap, about half a g of coke left. he asked me if i was a dealer, i said no. he told me didnt want to see me in a cubicle with anyone other than just me on my own in future, and that was the end of the matter. another time, my eyes must of been rolling in the back of my head ( a few years ago now) an off duty policeman again approached me and asked me to step outside. he told me bascially i was known for taking stuff, and he asked me to empty out my pockets (probally illegal, he was not working) i showe him a bag with 3 pills in it. he told me to put them on the pavement and stand on them so i did. he then asked me to go away and not come back for a while. all in all pretty understanding leaniant stuff

Talk is cheap jancrow. What you need to do is provide evidence of all these chief constables ordering their officers "Don't hassle any small time drug users for the next 12 months". That would prove your point.

The main trouble with your statements about the police is that you assume that they all think exactly the same thing and behave in exactly the same way. There's quite a lot of variation in opinion at all levels.

Yes, they all consider drug use illegal and prosecute drug users. Are you claiming they don't?

No, it wouldn't, it would prove the opposite of your current point, which is not what I was trying to do. I'm arguing one thing, backing it up with quotes, and you're going off on a tangent. Nobody in their right mind would suggest that the situation you've outlined above exists. Why set it at 12 months anyway? Seems pretty arbitrary. But I digress - what I've proved is my point: that not all cops want to spend their time hassling small time drug users, and that this is also the view of some pretty high up coppers.

Do you have a source for your quote about the kicking in doors? Or is it just more shit that you've pulled out of your arse on the spur of the moment and tried to pass off as fact? Get a source for that quote or delete the post. I'm sorry but I don't really trust your recollection when it comes to this subject.

Yes, they all consider drug use illegal and prosecute drug users. Are you claiming they don't?

No. I agree with that statement. After all, the laws of this land make the drugs in question illegal, and we pay them to uphold the laws. What I'm saying is that not all cops want to spend their time hassling small time drug users, and that this is also the view of some pretty high up coppers.

No, you've proved the exact opposite to what you thought you were proving. When you provide evidence of high up coppers letting drug users off you will have a point.

And incidentally your original point was that inspectors were all trembling in their shoes at the thought of ordering a section 60. When I pointed out that was a load of shit you dropped it post-haste.

Do you have a source for your quote about the kicking in doors?

Not an online source, it was the local newspaper reporting a case where someones door was kicked down and no drugs were found.

What I'm saying is that not all cops want to spend their time hassling small time drug users, and that this is also the view of some pretty high up coppers.

They all prosecute drug users to the utmost of their ability. Are you denying that? Do you really think one cop blowing it out their arse to the newspapers means they're going to let you off? They don't "want" to do it but they fucking well do it mate. Is that what your "argument" amounts to?

This is the logic you're following put into another conversation:

Person A: "I want to see the starving fed"
Ismene: "So what are you actually doing about it?"
Person A: "Fuck all. In fact I'm actually pursuing a policy to make their lives even worse".
Jancrow:"Person A is a fantastic bloke Ismene!! I've proved my point"
Ismene: "No you havn't".

... filth lifted me Fri night prior to a gig in SW London... fucking facists!:X
